Useful automation capabilities, scales well, and simple implementation
We are currently exploring automation options for various areas, and Avantra should consider implementing automation for change request management, an area they have not yet ventured into. While Avantra is currently excelling in monitoring and system refreshes, there is scope for improvement in automating change request management. In addition to primarily focusing on SAP, Avantra currently performs kernel patches which are core SAP patches. However, exploring more into OS patching could be another potential area for Avantra to expand its automation capabilities. Looking ahead to future releases, I would like to see more advanced automation features. As a long-term goal, I am considering the possibility of automating SAP system upgrades. While this would not be an easy feat, advancements in technology may make it feasible in the future. Overall, a key feature I hope to see in future releases is increased automation capabilities.

Real-time monitoring has improved incident response and supports proactive anomaly detection
The advantages and strong points of ITRS Geneos for me personally are seamless integration with existing systems as well as upcoming modern systems. The user interface is really good. From a management point of view, these are the key aspects with respect to the user interface and seamless integration. We get very good community support for this product. ITRS Geneos has impacted my organization positively, and I would rate it 4.5 out of 5.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It's very easy to manage and use."
"It prevented two major failures in our SAP production systems."
"It's just very user-friendly, and it's very easy to monitor the servers using Avantra."
"Deployment was amazingly short and simple; I do not think I have seen any SAP-related product installs ready to work so fast, and out-of-box it included most of the functions and settings that we needed."
"You can customize alerts based on need."
"I definitely recommend this solution, it provides good value for money."
"The most valuable feature of Avantra is automation. The reduction of manual work and having them automated is one of the top reasons why I would use it."
"ITRS Geneos is very well known in the financial services community as being the best platform to monitor real time data infrastructures and the application does what it says on the tin."
"One of the most valuable features of ITRS Geneos is the active time feature that helps with the trading applications that I support."
"Switching over to using a Geneos dashboard, we completely eliminated all manual effort and it was a huge time saver."
"The ITRS central Help Desk is absolutely awesome."
"One of the benefits is to have 24/7 automated monitoring of our most critical services; in general, it has drastically increased the visibility of our estate, definitely improved our response times to issues, and enabled us to proactively detect issues and prevent outages as well."
"ITRS uses SNMP to communicate with our devices as well as SNMP net probes installed on our servers."
"The flexibility of the product is most valuable. It is highly customizable. If you put your mind to it and think of something you could do, there's a good possibility you can get it integrated within the console, if it's not readily available. The simplicity or ease of customization has been valuable."
"Geneos gives us visibility on all of our systems at once and we can build dashboard views to monitor transactions moving from one system to another."

Cons

"The machine-learning is lacking and should be improved."
"I think they can improve their UI, while very intuitive, I would like to see graphic updates."
"The dashboard needs to improve; it's not so clear right now and we need it to be more usable so we can have all of our reports in one easy-to-access place."
"We are currently exploring automation options for various areas, and Avantra should consider implementing automation for change request management, an area they have not yet ventured into. While Avantra is currently excelling in monitoring and system refreshes, there is scope for improvement in automating change request management. "The dashboard needs to improve."
"A downside of Avantra is that it comes with predefined values."
"I believe the product has to improve on reporting."
"Much of the reporting outside of the user interface is very basic and requires much customization to be useful."
"Its web monitoring capability is very hard to use especially if there is authentication involved."
"We were a little bit confused but once we found out what was needed, it was smooth."
"The deployment method for upgrading is a bit tricky. It takes a little bit of manual effort. If that could be a bit more automated, it would help us a lot."
"I would like to see ITRS integrate its setup editor with a SVN to check-in setup XML after major changes."
"Sometimes, if there is a lot of data coming onto the servers, we have observed a little bit of slowness on the gateway servers which are doing the ITRS dashboard monitoring."
"Geneos' application monitoring could be improved a lot. Products like AppDynamics and Dynatrace provide the process thread-level monitoring, but Geneos lacks these capabilities."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"The licensing cost may seem expensive upfront. However, the service is outstanding, the tool does things that no other tools can do, and the customizability more than makes up for the cost of licensing."
"It is expensive. They have to look at the model around when we move to cloud and how that's going to work. The licensing cost does pay off because of the improvements in support to our business."
"ITRS Geneos is not a cheap tool. It's a moderate price for the banking industry. The reason we are not able to add the ITRS monitoring tool for the non-banking industries, and non-finance industries, is that the pricing is too high."
"The organization is not just purchasing a license for the product, but also managing services and professional services from ITRS. Another factor is if the implementation is going to be in production, non-production, or both."
"You will get the best price if you get a single global deal."
"The pricing is fairly market-related. They have been very lenient because we have been working with them for so long. An example is that we're currently migrating some of our services to AWS, and they've given us a grace period for some of the things to help with the migration and not to grow additional costs while we are migrating, but it's still on par with the market."
"Pricing and licensing is based on the requirements."
"Given our spend and the amount of service we have in it, the pricing is quite reasonable."
