Gained full visibility and streamlined threat detection through behavior-based insights and AI integration
Initially, we got to have a lot of false positives when we onboarded, but nowadays it's quite smooth. We have fine-tuned our security policies and allowed different levels of policies to get rid of those false positives. Currently, we are getting a fairly good amount of incidents that are not false positives or benign, but actionable items. The process is streamlined. In the initial days, the operations used to get involved in a lot of benign and other activities, but now the process is streamlined. We are leveraging the auto-detection and remediation plans. The operations teams are now more involved in other business roles as well, not just looking into the logs and fetching out what's happening there. They have fixed a lot of things. Initially, they didn't have IAC code drift detection, cloud posture management, or security posture management, but they have those now. They purchased different vendors and did a merger with that. They have now Prisma Cloud that gets integrated and now they are working with Cortex Cloud. Everything that was negative has now been addressed, and the product altogether looks to be in a very better and mature shape now. Currently, it's more or less detecting the workloads with AI-based best practices. Since most organizations are consuming AI agents and other things, we are looking forward to seeing what other feature enhancements Palo Alto can support in that.

Doesn't have daily updates, which is important for healthcare IT
I face challenges with the exclusion policy - it still scans folders we told it not to, causing issues. When we contact support, they tell us to update the latest agent, but we can't do that immediately due to medical device protocols and validation testing. I wish support would try to understand our issues better instead of giving this standard response. The machine learning feature they use often tells us to upgrade the agent or add things to the exclusion list, which isn't unacceptable. It's a very good and new technology as a tool and antivirus. But sometimes, it doesn't work properly with our medical devices and products, quarantining files it shouldn't even after we add them to exclusions. This is tricky for us.

Dashboard customization is needed for improvements. While the centralized management is strong, the dashboard could offer more flexibility. It would be helpful to tailor views for different roles, such as IT or security support. Regarding needed improvements, custom report building could be enhanced. Current reports are informative, and a drag-and-drop builder would allow teams to create tailored views for compliance, executive summaries, or operational metrics. For further improvements, enhancing threat simulation and testing would be valuable. Building a threat simulation tool and adding native capabilities to simulate phishing, malware, or ransomware scenarios will help teams validate protection and train users without relying on third-party tools.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The best feature of Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks is that it collects logs from different sections such as the endpoint, the network, and the cloud, making it easy to investigate alerts, collect some of the investigation packages related to the infected machines, and provide live response."
"Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks's ability to block sophisticated threats in real time is quite good and is on par with SentinelOne's."
"The multi-layered approach to the product gives you confidence that it will stop exploits, ransomware, worms, or viruses from compromising endpoints, essentially providing peace of mind."
"Palo Alto is one of the tech vendors that always provides top-of-the-line products."
"Palo Alto is the core of the security infrastructure in the environment."
"The solution's most valuable feature is its ability to rapidly detect certain hardware files."
"I don't have to do much monitoring with it; I don't have to have anybody manually looking at this, it gives us reports, and it lets us know if something needs to be addressed, and we can easily address it."
"WildFire AI is the best option for this product."
"What's most valuable in CylancePROTECT is the optics feature. I also like its easy-to-use and user-friendly dashboard and monitoring system."
"The quick installation would be the most valuable aspect of this solution."
"The initial setup of CylancePROTECT is very easy."
"On the management side, we liked the way it displays things."
"The most valuable features are script blocking and macros within Word documents for stopping unwanted applications from running in the background."
"A user can continue to add endpoints and the solution will continue to perform well."
"Has good RAM capacity for the power I need"
"The most functional item that we use is the process to turn off the false flags that it causes."
"The feature that we find most valuable is the easy way of configuring it via the SmartConsole on Check Point. The configuration is very straightforward and although it has some impact on the firewall CPU and memory, it doesn't impact the IPS, for example. It allows for the scanning of downloaded files from the internet. Scanning files that our users have downloaded to check if they have any virus is the most important thing."
"We love the reports and monitoring they provide."
"This software incorporates security AI features and effectively manages bandwidth with its DRS capabilities."
"It is a stable solution. My company has not received any complaints regarding the product's stability from our customers who use the solution."
"Check Point Antivirus has positively impacted our organization by enhancing our security posture and operational efficiency."
"After introducing Harmony Endpoint we have seen the incident levels going down to close to zero."
"It's a very good solution and it is a complete endpoint security solution."
"Its stability during any heavy performance activity is excellent."

Cons

"Based on our experience so far, its implementation is quite complex."
"Traps doesn't work with McAfee. You need to remove McAfee to install Traps. This is very common, and its nothing that should be an issue. Some antivirus engines recognize Traps as an threat component, so maybe they need to shake hands somewhere."
"A better pricing plan would make this product more competitive."
"In an upcoming release, the solution could improve by proving hard disk encryption. If it could support this it would be a complete solution."
"Currently, we are monitoring all USB drives and ports but we would like to improve our device control capabilities."
"The solution lags to the real-time scenarios here and there."
"There's room for improvement with Mac device installations, which can be challenging."
"The solution should offer more dashboards and they should be better customized."
"They could improve on the false positives, reporting and whitelisting features."
"The process of whitelisting a script that you want to be able to run can be a little bit difficult, or awkward."
"I would like to see them fix the alerting system so that the endpoint reporting is a bit more streamlined."
"I would like to see a little bit of additional reporting or insight as to what it is doing exactly."
"rom my experience interacting with the primary or the central administrative console, it's quite complex. You would need a fair bit of technical experience to set it up, implement and maintain it. That would be one area for improvement."
"CylancePROTECT's technical support is non-existent."
"I'd like them to do software distribution too, but they said that that's architecturally not at the product line."
"The solution’s user interface could be improved."
"There are still functionalities that I have not been able to fully test and I would like to spend more time using the tool before offering an opinion to the IT Central community on this point."
"Inspecting HTTPS traffic requires enabling HTTPS inspection and threat emulation, which can be resource intensive, resulting in performance impact on legitimate traffic also."
"I think Check Point Harmony Endpoint could be improved as I dislike the management interface because it's not intuitive, it lacks real-time reporting without configuring smart events, and it made administration less efficient."
"From an improvement perspective, the major challenge we've faced with Harmony is the support."
"The SLA is slow."
"Improvements are required in two key areas: notifications and setup simplification."
"In my case, I had pretty much faced disaster after implementation that I would not suggest anybody go with the product."
"I have a few issues when attempting to install Harmony on some of the machines."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks is an expensive solution."
"Our license will require renewal in August, after which the maintenance will continue as usual."
"The price was fine."
"The pricing is a little high. It is per user per year."
"When we first bought it, it was a bit expensive, but it was worth it. The licensing was straightforward."
"The price of the solution is high for the license and in general."
"Cortex XDR's pricing is ok."
"It is cost-effective compared to similar solutions. It fits for the small businesses through to the big businesses."
"Our licensing cost for the solution is around $4,000 for six months. There are no costs in addition to the standard licensing fees."
"The licensing part of the product is too expensive compared to other solutions in the market."
"On a scale from one to ten, where one is cheap and ten is expensive, I rate the solution's pricing a seven out of ten."
"The license price for this solution could be better. It's on the expensive side."
"I think that the price we are paying is good for what it is."
"This cost of the license is approximately $5 USD monthly per user."
"We went through a third party initially to do the renewal, but we won't be renewing, we will move on to something else."
"It is expensive, but not unreasonable."
"I rate the solution's pricing a five out of ten. It costs around ₱2,200 per endpoint."
"There are three different licensing models including basic, advanced, and complete, and it needs to be selected according to the endpoint."
"Choosing the correct set of licenses is essential because, without the additional software blade licenses, the Check Point gateways are just a stateful firewall."
"The solution is reasonable, but there are cheaper solutions out there."
"The price is good."
"One of the key factors that made us go with this solution was the pricing. On the licensing part, there was an initial complementary set of licenses offered in the initial onboarding package, either 15 or 20. Then, we had some complementary licenses in the initial purchase of the package. That was pretty useful."
"Check Point Antivirus is an expensive solution, especially for clients that don't have as many endpoints. Check Point Antivirus has a free trial for one month, and within the trial period, there's no limit to the number of endpoints it can support, but when the trial expires, you'll have to buy the license, which covers one year. You can't buy a license for the solution without being a Check Point partner first."
"In addition to the standard licensing fees, there is a cost for support."
