Technical support has improved my data management process but I encounter GUI and cost challenges
The solution is available in the Azure Marketplace, but approaching directly is more cost-effective. The Marketplace approach incurs additional platform and reporting costs. We initially built Rubrik at host level and DB level. We encountered latency issues when reverting back, with numerous snapshots available. This resulted in increased costs and occupied spaces. I performed manual deletion of snapshots and verified with the Rubrik team for confirmation. The GUI reporting functionality lacks flexibility. For instance, obtaining specific server reports considering drive space and backup quantities is not possible, as it only provides overall reporting.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The fact that we don't need to purchase any hardware is a huge benefit."
"We don't need to purchase any hardware for this solution."
"The fact that the API is so available to us with the playground — there's an internal and public playground — is also valuable. We can write API calls — and although I'm sure there's a way we could hurt the data — we write those calls with a lot of certainty that we won't be destroying anything. We write these API calls using really easy mechanisms and generate automation a lot faster."
"The initial setup is easy."
"What I like about Rubrik is that you can back up to the cloud. It is a different kind of backup where you're not archiving the tape. Rubrik is a physical appliance. It is a dedicated appliance to which you can back up, and you can also back up to another device. So, you can back up to Rubrik and then to another device. If you have more than one site, you can set up Rubrik on site A and also on site B. You can back up to the Rubrik on site A and then replicate that data to the Rubrik on site B."
"Rubrik is able to hit about 95% to 98% of the things that we want to do, which is not going to be the case for every company, but it will fit most customers' needs."
"Overall the product is really good."
"Rubrik provides excellent customer service and technical support."
"I would rate the solution's web interface at eight out of ten. It's just fantastic and intuitive. It's so easy to use. I've never done any formal training on Rubrik, but I was able to quickly come to grips with its capabilities."
"At this point, we have a 100% success rate, which was definitely not the case with any prior system that I've used."

Cons

"Lacks sufficient documentation or training videos."
"I think they could implement some new functionalities and I'd like to see some better training provided, whether it's documentation or training videos."
"It is not Windows Cluster-Aware at the moment or Exchange DAG-Aware."
"Troubleshooting failed backups is difficult, and deciphering the logs without the help of support is usually almost impossible."
"The solution's reporting feature could be better."
"It needs more storage array integration options and an easier restore for files that download using a browser."
"The web interface could benefit from some improvement, particularly in terms of alerting and dashboard clarity. The cloud web interface is somewhat confusing and could use more development attention. Additionally, it's essential to ensure that local on-premise management options remain available alongside cloud-based solutions, as internet availability can affect backup management. Regarding features, cross-hypervisor restore functionality would be a valuable addition, allowing for greater flexibility in restoring VMs across different environments."
"Troubleshooting failed backups is not what it should be. Once you gather logs, deciphering them without the help of support is usually almost impossible."
"Rubrik needs to continue to listen to their customers and what they want/need, not just care about money and the bottom line."
"The Polaris piece could use improvement. When you get a report and you have events that are suspicious, you cannot drill down and find out why it's suspicious. You only know it's suspicious, but you don't know the root cause. Other than that, everything works well."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"I rate the tool's pricing a six out of ten."
"Rubrik is fairly priced."
"High priced when considering a total change in backup solution."
"There are additional costs like maintenance, and there are some features on their central management piece that don't come with our licensing."
"We pay yearly and it's based on the number of bricks."
"Rubrik is quite expensive for small businesses."
"The pricing has been quite good from our perspective, in terms of being able to negotiate with the Rubrik team to get the product that we want and be able to sell that out to our end customers."
"The pricing and licensing of Rubrik is better than products that we've had in the past. It was quite a bit cheaper than Commvault and NetBackup."
