Has enabled uninterrupted access to educational platforms and simplified storage management
Dell EqualLogic PS series is easily scalable, and we can add extra boxes and storage. It was easy to deploy during COVID. Deploying Dell EqualLogic PS series is straightforward, with no complexity involved. Dell EqualLogic PS series is a good product. We did not experience any failures in the last six to seven years, and it is still running as our storage for offline data. There are snapshot capabilities in data protection available, but we did not use that feature because it consumes much space. We have only 150 terabytes of space and simply use it to create volumes without utilizing it for snapshots. We use thin provisioning in Dell EqualLogic PS series, but I did not explore that feature further.

Reliable and secure storage solution supports core banking operations effectively
The replication technology that Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform uses is quite older, and the replication methodology they employ for data between the data center and the production and standby database shows no significant improvement in that particular field. With respect to storage administration, I'd like to see more clarity on the encryption side; data being stored in an encrypted manner is essential, but the customer or end-user doesn't understand which encryption is being used and doesn't have a direct view stating that their data is encrypted using AES 256 or DES, or whatever standard they follow. This lack of transparency may not be acceptable during audits.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The technical support for the solution was really good."
"It is a stable solution. Stability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten."
"The technical support for EqualLogic has been universally outstanding."
"Technical support, when we had access to it, was very good."
"It is stable and scalable."
"I am satisfied with it; it works very fine for our purpose, and its performance is enough for our needs."
"Dell EqualLogic PS series is a highly stable solution."
"Technical support is great; we have four-hour support from Dell for storage."
"The hybrid array provides scaleable, predictable, high performance with no capacity constraints."
"The Hitachi VSP has significantly improved data storage scalability by addressing various issues. Through their research and development efforts, they've incorporated customer feedback regarding deployment speed and performance requirements."
"The first thing that attracted this model to us was the non-disruptive migration."
"What I like best about Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform G Series is that it's a fast storage solution, it also has reliable models, the sales support is good for this product, and even the pricing for it is good."
"Hitachi's adaptive data reduction technology has helped reduce our storage footprint."
"Overall, we are very satisfied with Hitachi's product."
"Data optimization, compression, and deduplication are the most important features for us."
"It is a very stable solution. Stability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten."

Cons

"Individual file recovery would be a nice additional feature."
"6510 and 6610 have two iSCSI connections in each controller. Why do 6110xxx members have only one, and why do the same members have the possibility of having an active iSCSI interface in the passive controller? It could make a lot of noise with a failover."
"Dell EqualLogic PS series could improve the performance because in our hybrid configuration the read speed is faster than the write speed."
"Three of the four devices have been rock solid, and one of them had a string of issues that we eventually resolved."
"We need more space and we can't get any."
"When they deployed our cluster, they did not provide any documentation or low-level or high-level diagrams. They simply came, mounted the servers, and started installation without documentation, which is a negative point on the vendor side."
"We are having some issues right now where some of the database operations are recovering and we find there are so many IOPS that EqualLogic fans cannot handle it."
"Synchronous replication uses space inefficiently."
"I think the management should be improved, because it is not very user-friendly at all."
"In terms of ransomware, Pure Storage is probably a couple of steps ahead of Hitachi, but Hitachi does not rush in terms of features. They want to be really sure that the hardware works properly without any kind of problem in new environments, and the implementation or improvement does not affect the customer installation. They really want to make sure that customers are not affected in any way."
"What I'd like to see in the next release of Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform G Series is for it to be a real NAS solution because right now, you need to use a Hitachi converter called HNAS which makes the process a little bit more expensive."
"The time taken to act upon issues is quite large, and issue identification takes a significant amount of time, especially when it comes to critical problems."
"The snapshot and clone operation functions can be made easier."
"I don't like Hitachi's technical support. They are there but it is not perfect and they are not very much help."
"I would like to see Hitachi improve their management software. It's been three years since they introduced Ops Center, their management product, and it still hasn't reached at least 50 percent of the capability we require. We are using legacy software because the product Hitachi offers does not stack up in functionality."
"The user experience is pretty bad in Hitachi. A lot of mandatory tasks take a long time to work through."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I didn't buy it. It was another person seven years ago. So, I don't really know, but all storage platforms cost a lot of money. It is probably in the mid-range, but you get what you pay for."
"There are annual maintenance costs beyond the original licensing period."
"Dell EqualLogic PS series can improve its scale-out feature. Sometimes the customer has a limited budget for storage expansion. When they want to expand their capacity, they need to buy a complete controller plus storage capacity, which sometimes is out of their budget. If Dell EqualLogic PS series support could scale up the environment in which only hard drive extension controllers should be supported, then customers can expand within a lower budget."
"All features are out of the box. The license will be in the virtual, OS, or application layer."
"It seemed expensive at first, but the durability lowered the cost of ownership dramatically over time."
"Initial packages include all upgrades and services."
"It is a fair price."
"Price-wise, the solution is cheap. I rate it a three on a scale of one to ten, where one is very cheap, and ten is very expensive."
"The solution is expensive."
"The product is reasonably priced."
"Architecture-wise, it's actually at a competitive price point. It is not cheap."
"Hitachi VSP's pricing is good compared to other brands."
"The licensing cost of Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform G Series, whether it would be high or more affordable, would depend on location. For example, here in Brazil, Hitachi charges in dollars and this means my company still needs to convert that into local currency. Sometimes, my company also needs to discuss the pricing with the Hitachi sales team and request for a discount. At the moment, pricing for Hitachi is high, but my team can have some global funding or global accounts that would help reach the price my company is aiming for."
"The price of the solution is reasonable compared to others, such as Dell EMC."
"I would rate the solution's pricing at around eight or nine on a scale of one to ten. While the solution may be priced higher than some competitors, we prioritize the quality and durability of the storage."
"It is cheap. It is not very expensive. If you decide to expand the system, the cost is pretty low as compared to other vendors, such as Dell."
