Has supported flexible multi-platform backups and improved over time
Regarding the effectiveness of Dell NetWorker in terms of role-based access controls, I have experience with it, but I find it somewhat lacking in flexibility as it offers limited features, and I would rate it around seven out of ten. It is not that there is something wrong with the role-based access controls in Dell NetWorker, but it lacks many permissions or roles to assign, providing options only for administrator or user. To improve Dell NetWorker for the next release, I recommend enhancing flexibility in the policy, allowing selection of multiple options within the same policy, and addressing issues like the DNS lookup dependency to make it more controllable from Dell NetWorker itself rather than relying on other applications. Looking forward, I would like to see improved policy features and a more enhanced GUI, as it is still slow.

Cloud backup has simplified protecting hybrid, endpoint, and office data while cutting overhead
Areas for improvement could include having SaaS backups for Office 365 to back up on-premises. The majority of customers who speak about Office 365 backups want to back up Office 365 on-premises, which means if they have SaaS backups, they need a copy of that cloud data in their data center. Because everything is happening on the Microsoft cloud and Azure, if this feature is supported in a simple way, it would be very beneficial. Another idea for improvement is flexibility to be supported across different hyperscalers. Currently, it is supported in AWS. I understand that this may be irrelevant for customers because everything at the end of the day is managed by Dell. However, some customers may have subscriptions that they need to use. If there were another option in Azure or something similar, it would provide additional flexibility.

Pros

"Dell NetWorker's user interface is quite simple and very interactive."
"The most valuable features for us at the moment are NFS, file system backup, and IP backup."
"The backup will run automatically and backed up data will expire automatically based on configured policies."
"The most valuable features for us at the moment are NFS, file system backup, and IP backup."
"Very user-friendly with a good interface."
"Dell's technical support are quite helpful with straightforward issues."
"This solution is very stable."
"It can support many different versions, both newer and older."
"The handiest feature of Dell PowerProtect Backup Services is that it syncs up our backups to other locations—we don't have to worry about our backups not syncing to other locations, and it monitors and reports to us if there are any issues."
"Some of the returns on investment I see with this product are security and saving time."
"The user interface of Dell PowerProtect Backup Services is simple to manage and can manage multiple use cases on a single dashboard, which is very valuable from the customer perspective."

Cons

"The user interface needs some work. It would be beneficial to have a single user interface for all of the features."
"The installation process should be improved as it is complicated. To connect to a server, it's necessary to install a client on the server, which is challenging."
"The front end of the solution could improve. The user-friendliness is lacking."
"In some cases, solutions are not found in one method of call and it escalates to many levels until an experienced person can join to resolve the issue."
"The technical support was slightly impolite in my experience."
"The user interface is hard to use, it should be simplified. There are a lot of web-based management interfaces which they should consider."
"There could be a possibility of constructing full backups from incremental data intelligently."
"I haven't had a good experience with technical support. It takes them a very long time to resolve issues."
"In discussion with the company last year at Dell Tech World, the pricing model needs improvement because they are using shared resources."
"I think the pricing could be better, or they could improve support, automations, or customizations."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"There is a licensing fee."
"The price of the license could be cheaper and it would be a benefit if they came up with a new pricing model. The competitors here in Oman sell universal licensing where a number of virtual machines are hosted at the customer place which can be licensed, or you can license the CPU sockets in those servers. However, NetWorker offers only CPU sockets or overall storage capacity to backup, but there is no universal licensing where you can provide a number of VMs. They should offer more options to stay competitive with other solutions, such as Veeam."
"We do need to purchase a license, but sometimes, it comes as a part of the Dell Data Protection Suite (DPS). It has a capacity-based licensing."
"Low cost is key."
"The pricing of the solution is not the cheapest compared to other similar solutions. The Networker is available as a component of the Dell EMC Data Protection Suite package and it should have the ability to be purchased separately."
"It is inexpensive compared to new products."
"If you purchase Avamar, NetWorker is free with Avamar, for one terabyte license capacity."
"The solution follows a subscription model for licensing. We pay annually to use the solution and the price is high."
