AI-driven insights have reduced downtime and improved cross-team collaboration
We encountered some challenges while using Dynatrace. Although the initial setup was smooth, fine-tuning alert thresholds and custom metrics took some time. Another challenge was that Dynatrace charges based on host units, so we had to carefully plan our agent deployments. The licensing model is expensive. Additionally, the complexity of setup is an issue. While OneAgent and auto-discover services are powerful, the setup is more complex compared to other tools such as Prometheus and Grafana. These integrations are simple and basic, but Dynatrace setup requires more complexity based on the environment. For new users wanting to use Dynatrace, it is difficult. However, the AI-related solutions and metrics took us to the next level for identifying and fixing things. Dynatrace requires an agent for operation. OneAgent is powerful, but it is also resource-heavy. On lightweight nodes or older systems, the agent can slightly impact performance. If Dynatrace could implement a lightweight agent behavior, we could make things faster. Additionally, if Dynatrace could add a long-term retention policy so that we could store more data and find fine-grained details, that would help us. While Dynatrace managed edition supports on-premises deployment, the SaaS version depends on cloud connectivity. For highly regulated or air-gapped environments, setup and updates can be challenging. Although the initial setup is smooth, if someone wants to fine-tune it and fully understand the tool end-to-end, it could be tricky.

Visual mapping of data pipelines has improved dependency insight and speeds troubleshooting
Regarding Savision Live Maps's AI capabilities, I think accuracy was pretty good, as it gave most of the information that we were able to validate, so it's all good. The advice I would give to others looking into using Savision Live Maps is that I think it's a good product; it's a new thing, and the AI capabilities are obviously improving every day, so I'm looking forward to more improvements and more use cases, and hopefully we can scale it in different departments and for different projects. I gave Savision Live Maps a rating of 8 out of 10.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I think Dynatrace has good integration. I saw an integration with xMatters where, when there's a problem, it can kick out a message to the whomever it is, with xMatters."
"What I like about it, is how it auto-discovers everything rapidly; within a matter of seconds you get to see the business transaction and how it's mapped within the product itself."
"Having a Dynatrace guardian onsite for our first two years helped with our user adoption."
"Ease of problem detection and alerting, visual timeline, and user-sessions are some of the best features of Dynatrace."
"The most valuable feature is the workflow, which helps you to easily have an overview of the infrastructure that you are analyzing, without having worked with it previously."
"Dynatrace offers exceptional features compared to other monitoring tools."
"Dynatrace facilitates great live performance monitoring, allowing us to easily and visually detect problems before they become a large impact issue to the business."
"I can get everything on a single page."
"Savision Live Maps has impacted my organization positively because it helps visually represent nodes and understand dependencies, which helps us understand breakages and issues in production."
"The dashboards and views available are easy to manage and share, and provide all of the metrics required."
"This helps to centralize multiple monitoring solutions and streamline integration into ITSM."

Cons

"Custom reporting is still missing."
"Better intelligence in terms of identifying business transactions would be appreciated."
"We are still exploring features. But one feature which would be great in the next release would be that it provide a summary of the main fail point for frustrated users, instead of our having to go to PurePath and look for it."
"We have had problems with our implementation. The SAP Hybris Commerce side of things has been very smooth, but not the BizTalk side."
"We called support mostly about implementation issues. Docker was one which was early on and the support structure for Dynatrace. Typically, they were trying to help us figure out third-party applications and where the monitoring agent should be located."
"The web-based UI needs to be improved. The client seems to be heavy on laptops and desktops."
"We have a load testing team, they completely rely on the reporting for analyzing the data. They should have a template to create a report and they should have something to auto-deliver the report into your email box."
"If we can gain more insight into older applications, using not-so-recent technologies, then it would be a plus."
"Perhaps more focus can be done on the CMDB portion and bi-directional communication to the ITSM system, but this is a small portion."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Pricing can be high, especially for Portuguese standards. But as one says, you get what you pay for."
"As compared to New Relic and other providers, it is more expensive, which is its biggest disadvantage. Its biggest advantage is its capability. It is more feature-rich."
"There was also some complexity in the adoption rate of it because of how costly the licensing is."
"We purchased a subscription for one year and it is an expensive solution for a large enterprise like ours."
"The product is pricey, but it is feature-rich, which is why we probably haven't looked away from it."
"The product is really fast to implement and gives customers instant value. This is important, because it reduces costs on the implementation."
"Dynatrace's pricing for their consumption units is rather arcane compared to some of the other tools, thus making forward-looking calculations based on capacity planning quite hard."
"We asked for a three-year license, and the price was quite good."
