Centralized device management has transformed security and streamlined remote provisioning
One area where Microsoft Intune can improve is the user interface. Sometimes the portal feels a bit complex and not very intuitive, especially for new users, and it can take time to find specific settings. Another point is troubleshooting. While logs are available, the diagnostic policies and sync issues can still be time-consuming and not very straightforward. I also feel that reporting could be more detailed and customizable. The built-in reports are helpful, but for deeper insights, I often need to rely on additional tools. Overall, it is a strong solution, but improving usability and troubleshooting experience would make it even better. While Microsoft Intune works very well within the Microsoft ecosystem, the integration of some third-party tools could be smoother and require less customization. Support is another area that could improve, as sometimes response times can be slow, and resolving complex issues may take longer than expected. In terms of features, I think more advanced automation and built-in remediation options would be helpful since common issues can be fixed automatically without manual intervention.

Delivers seamless remote access and excellent support
I don't have experience in ManageEngine. I have experience with GFI LANguard, Qualys Patch Management, and WatchGuard Firebox. I also have experience with GoTo Resolve. I don't know about the advanced security protocols in GoTo Resolve. The solution is very good. The vendor is good, the technical support is good, so there will be no complaint about it. I rate GoTo Resolve 9 out of 10.

I understand from the IT team managing Microsoft Remote Desktop Services that it is complex to set up the multiple roles, certificates, and networks required. Networking is quite complicated. Even though on the data center side it is quite simple, maintaining the farm of other connections that connect to that server is the complex piece. I understand there are more modern systems replicating what this solution does, which are easier to use, such as Azure Virtual Desktop within Microsoft Azure Cloud or Amazon WorkSpaces, which I have used before. Rather than having to manage all the complex networking, you could abstract it away a little further in the cloud for easier use. I also understand that this tool is in an end-of-life state now, with Microsoft actively pushing people towards Azure Virtual Desktop or Windows 365. I do not believe further features will be rolled out due to its end-of-life state, making it a legacy solution now.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We have one MDM that works with Windows, iOS, and Android."
"This product works very well for companies already using the full Microsoft suite."
"One of the biggest advantages of Microsoft Intune is not only the management itself, but also how well it integrates with other Microsoft technologies."
"The Autopilot feature is fantastic; it is a Microsoft product, so it deals best with Microsoft operating systems, but it can integrate with iOS, Mac OS, Linux, and Android."
"Our configuration profiles used to be all over the place. For example, there's a lot of legacy stuff in Active Directory. Going through Intune has helped us enforce settings, which has improved device security and functionality. When you apply something through Intune, you know it works. You don't have to worry about a legacy setting from Active Directory that was uploaded by somebody seven years ago. With Intune, you can see that a device has a setting, and you can be confident that the device is configured how you want."
"The most useful features in Microsoft Intune are the policy enforcement and conditional access. These features make our operations easier from a company perspective."
"Microsoft Intune has transformed my organization; we are managing to scale the Intune deployment across all our regions efficiently, and it works perfectly for our needs."
"It is much easier to deploy software updates and Windows updates globally because of the cloud base, so I can manage from anywhere, making it quite convenient for me."
"I think that's the best solution I have ever checked; instead of AnyDesk or TeamViewer, you can use GoTo Resolve."
"We wouldn't be able to offer the services that we offer without a product like this."
"The ability to change the way that the client works to a service so that we can get a little bit deeper into the operating system, as opposed to just an app running is the most valuable aspect. We also like the unattended sessions. Those are probably the two most important things to us. It's important because we can't do certain things when it is just an application running."
"Mostly we are quite happy with it."
"In terms of the valuable features, I like the profile, the new version is really good."
"Using Microsoft Remote Desktop Services has helped my team save time and improve productivity because we had Microsoft servers that were impossible to connect from our MacBook Pro laptops, and once we started using RDP, we could connect and move forward to deliver the project."
"The solution has very smooth connectivity and is very user friendly."
"For personal use, it is a great app."
"The most valuable feature is performance."
"Things can be made easier if someone is not with us or at a long distance since we can connect easily with those people. So, it's easy for us to use such features."
"Since the tool has a graphical user interface, it's easier for us to access the server."

Cons

"There is room for improvement in Microsoft Intune's understanding and user experience as the interface is easy to navigate for deploying applications and finding user information, but I think there should be a reduction in dependency on on-premises infrastructure and focus on artificial intelligence and automation to improve further."
"The reporting needs to be a bit more interactive."
"The reporting functionality of Microsoft Intune is limited compared to Microsoft System Center, which offers many more reporting options."
"There is still a gap between SCCM and Intune, especially in the reporting, inventory, and software deployment areas."
"Data leak prevention can be integrated into it. Currently, it does not have data leak prevention."
"It should be simplified. I've worked with many different mobile device management solutions, and Intune is one of the more complex ones. It could be more simplified, and some of it is related to the wording that is being used, such as a configuration profile versus a policy. They really should have had different names to make it less confusing."
"Microsoft Intune has a few areas where it could improve, such as faster policy and app deployment, a better user interface, stronger support for non-Windows devices, improved reporting and visibility, easier troubleshooting tools, and more transparent pricing."
"It could offer more attributes for authentication."
"If they included some sort of monitoring system for managed services so we can have it all in one package, that would be helpful. There are managed services solutions that allow us to remote into the computers, but a lot of them have too much overhead. Usually, the remote connection is not as simple and as fast and cannot be run as a service."
"If they included some sort of monitoring system for managed services so we can have it all in one package, that would be helpful."
"The pricing of GoTo Resolve is very high compared to other solutions."
"There could be better options and it could be faster."
"The only problems that you're going to have with the remote desktop are going to be firewall ports, security, and NLA, which is a net network level access control, or TLS transfer layer security or some other SSL-type of security."
"I would not recommend going with this solution because I wouldn't recommend going for a big enterprise setup."
"It could be made simpler from a management perspective."
"Microsoft Remote Desktop Services could improve by having graphical acceleration."
"Sometimes the server stops working, and we don’t know why. Occasionally we’ll get a message to the effect of "There is no remote license.""
"Network bandwidth may limit a users experience with remote desktop services."
"We'd like more granular security control of the desktop services."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The pricing for Intune and the competitor products are all within the same range, there is no true advantage when it comes to cost."
"Generally, we get favorable discounts, so it's not too bad. Obviously, we're looking at decreasing those wherever we can to bring value back to the public purse because it's all charity based. It's all publicly funded."
"It's a part of Microsoft 365 and E5 licenses. Microsoft's strategy of making every feature in Microsoft Intune paid needs optimization. Remote control is one of the basic features, not a luxury feature, yet we must pay for it. I"
"If you're subscribing to Premium or E3, there are no additional costs for Intune, it's included."
"The pricing needs improvement."
"It is expensive. The cost depends on the license that we choose."
"Existing E5 license holders for M365, Intune, and Azure, receive a free license."
"Pricing depends on the features. Microsoft offers special packages if there are more than 10,000 users, and you may be able to get a reduced rate."
"It's very inexpensive. The seats are $25 monthly apiece or something. There aren't additional costs that I'm aware of."
"It's not an expensive solution."
"The solution is overly expensive."
"The cost is fair."
"Microsoft Remote Desktop Services comes free as part of Microsoft Windows."
"Microsoft Remote Desktop Services is less expensive than some other solutions on the market."
"The pricing could always be improved."
"I rate the price of Microsoft Remote Desktop Services a three out of five."
"We do not have to pay for the product."
