Lacks multi-platform support and physical infrastructure but excels in storage optimization
We use it for VM backup and Office 365 backup I find the solution to be user-friendly and easy to manage and deploy. It provides storage for Office 365, which is beneficial, and the deduplication technology is excellent, especially in optimizing storage capacity compared to others. In terms of…

The solution provides the ability to backup all types of cloud drives, is inexpensive, and has decent support
MSP360 Backup provides the backup functionality, but we need to provide the storage component. We can use Azure, AWS, or another provider, but we need to choose the storage provider and create a bucket to store our data. The vendor is making changes to improve the functionality of the service and the separation of storage, but I would like to see more integration and a knowledge base of the tool. Currently trying to understand why the storage is separated and how to implement the storage properly is a challenge. Using the solution incurs additional charges for the device storage and backup which are not included in the service. Unlike other solutions such as Kohl which includes everything at one price. MSP360 Backup can be improved by adding inclusive pricing.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"DR time has been massively reduced."
"The initial setup was simple and easy. Anyone without prior experience can install, configure, and use it."
"The ease of use of the solution is its most valuable feature."
"I find the solution to be user-friendly and easy to manage and deploy."
"This product is not expensive, does the job what I bought it for, and is not time consuming."
"Altaro Hyper-V backup is a product that, once installed, does not need much maintenance."
"The product has many valuable features for handling backup needs, including replication, live migration, and incremental disaster recovery."
"We looked for a cheaper Hyper-V backup solution, and Altaro is the best choice for this purpose."
"One massive advantage of this solution, as compared to more enterprise products, is that no firewall changes are needed on the client's premises. For the product to back up from the client's premise to the cloud, it just needs port 8 and port 443, which are anyway always open. This was one of the things that made us decide to go with the product. It is very difficult to justify a firewall change for a small client who doesn't even know what a firewall is and how to maintain a firewall, or doesn't have anybody maintaining their firewall. You then have to maintain the firewall. MSP360 Backup takes away firewall change requirements, VPNs, or channels that are needed for the backup."
"Provides connectivity to a lot of different cloud storage solutions."
"Supports peer-to-peer backup using Minio, which has allowed us to easily pre-seed and maintain an off-site backup within driving distance, making tactical recovery of accidental file deletions easy."
"Every user of IT infrastructure needs to have a backup, and this is a good solution to implement because it is so easy and straightforward."
"The best feature is that it's very user-friendly to do scheduled backups and version maintenance."
"It has allowed me to implement a cost effective, highly configurable solution."
"General ease of use and performance of the Windows version is the most valuable feature."
"Technical support is very good."

Cons

"The solution needs multi-platform support as it is currently only available for VMware and Hyper-V. It also lacks support for physical servers and workstations."
"The only issue at the moment is a lack of throttling."
"Storage usage: you have often to manually free disk spaces."
"Unable to restore a VM when I needed it. Tried multiple hosts. Connected via gig switch and would never complete."
"Missing features at the moment are Linux file-level restore, backup from physical machines, German localized version, and probably full tape support (RDX is supported but there is no "real tape" support)."
"I need to be able to restore emails to Exchange Live not just to a PST. This is a major drawback as I want to be able to restore individual items or mailboxes directly into my live Exchange databases so the user can see the email right away."
"The initial set up was complex, and I was not able to do the set up myself."
"Hornetsecurity Altaro VM Backup could be improved in several areas, such as enhancing scalability features and possibly reducing the price."
"The main improvement is that it should have GDPR compliance. That's the problematic point. They say they are GDPR compliant, but they are not."
"As for what can be improved, some reports could be simplified so that you know how much backup you have done and what your backup details are. That report is available but it is very tough to get. I would like to know "today I have just uploaded 35 MB, tomorrow I have loaded 10 MB so my trend of backup is increasing.""
"Maybe implement an easier interface for basic users. For example, a set-up wizard with all the commonly used features as default."
"The graphics are looking a bit old and should be updated."
"There are some things that we don't like about it. That is why I was exploring alternatives in a hyper-scale environment. That is why I was checking IT Central Station."
"The product could be more user-friendly."
"The solution's pricing is very high."
"Maybe implement an easier interface for basic users. For example, a set-up wizard with all the commonly used features as default."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Altaro had the best prices and ROI in the whole bunch that we evaluated."
"Altaro VM Backup is affordably priced. It is a best value for its price and has almost every feature that an expensive, popular product offers."
"By implementing the solution at multiple locations, significant cost savings were achieved."
"VMware is a little pricey, but it is a good solution and priced similar to other products."
"Its yearly maintenance fee is fairly high for me to renew for upgrades and support."
"There is a free version for two VMs. I would advise to study the deployment environment well, prior to committing to order a license per host."
"The price is great for the utility you get and the licensing has never caused any issues with my company."
"The pricing is okay,"
"It includes a standard licensing fee. Once a year, there is a rebranding fee. The licensing costs are available on the internet for MSP360 Backup. There is a discount structure where if you have over 50 devices, you get a 50% discount. So, my cost is $2 a license per month."
"MSP360 is vastly cheaper than its competitors and has almost all the same features."
"Pricing is reasonable although can be quite a large upfront cost."
"I rate the price of MSP360 Backup a seven out of ten."
"The solution is expensive."
"We have a very good return on investment."
"It provides a good cost savings compared to our previous cloud backup."
"The cost is pretty inexpensive. Around four to five dollars per device, per workstation on each server."
