Supports efficient storage management through volume snapshots and offers reliable non-disruptive upgrades
I have no specific improvements to suggest for Pure FlashArray X NVMe at this time. The performance statistics could be enhanced. I can see the performance statistics in the Pure Storage console, but it does not show the performance by 4K byte unit. It displays IOPS and bandwidth, but IOPS is about real use, and I want to know how many IOPS are currently running in 4K byte units. I cannot see that IOPS because most storage systems report their performance by 4K byte unit. I want to see Pure Storage performance by 4K byte unit to compare with other storage or other internal NVMe SSD.

Provisioning and encryption ease improve data storage efficiency
To improve HPE Alletra Storage, it needs to have a true active-active controller; it claims to have an active-active controller from the back end, however, the second node is pretty much sitting there doing nothing. The MV 10000 series, which is the next series, is an improvement to HPE Alletra, and HPE is already doing that. In the next release, I would prefer to see better dedupe features; I know other companies do excellent dedupe, and they have protection group policies, meaning you have immutable data in case of a ransomware attack. If you're on the SAN, it should give you a way to protect that data without being erased. Other vendors have that capability built-in, ensuring that you can't erase the data, so features similar to that would be great.

A tool that offers protection against ransomware and other enterprise-level attacks
HPE Nimble Storage's cost is very high, making it one of its downsides. HPE Nimble Storage's cost is very high compared with any HCI solutions, like HPE's SimpliVity, Nutanix, VMware, or Dell VxRail. A person requires a special skill set to operate HPE Nimble Storage because there are hardly any solutions similar to Nimble Storage in the market. The product's support can be made faster and more responsive if HPE trains its partners in such a way that they acquire more expertise on Nimble Storage through the training sessions. HPE Nimble Storage is dependent on only VMware vSphere Hypervisor. In the future, HPE has to make Nimble Storage feasible with other hypervisors like Microsoft Hyper-V, Nutanix Acropolis, and RHEV, meaning it should be hypervisor agnostic.

"Feature-wise, it's pretty simple; just a one-click button to enable it, so implementing it was pretty easy too."
"The feature of HPE Alletra Storage that I appreciate the most is manageability."
"Performance-wise, you're looking at different models; a 6030 gives you more than a 6010, and a 6050 gives you more than a 6030."
"The solution has reduced my data management operation costs and time."
"The features of HPE Alletra Storage that I most prefer are its speed, as we were having issues with some of our VMs running into wait time on the older all-flash unit, and moving to the new Alletra's fixed the issue with no tweaking, no tuning, and it's awesome—basically set and forget, as Nimble has always been."
"Alletra has helped reduce the time spent resolving storage-related support tickets by about 40%."
"The feature of HPE Alletra Storage that I appreciate the most is manageability; it has reduced the time I spend on capacity planning by about 50%."
"We use InfoSight predictive analytics. It helps us from a performance perspective by identifying potential bottlenecks."
"Even through upgrades, there is no downtime, not even a hiccup for users."
"The valuable features include encryption of data, hybrid performance, firmware updates, and overall simplicity."
"The solution is quite scalable."
"InfoSight has identified controller failures or performance issues."
"In the 20 days that we have been using this solution, it has been stable."
"The solution runs pretty fast."
"The tool’s support is feasible."

Cons

"There are some challenges with data encryption and reduction."
"Right now, the box itself is just strictly working as a backend storage system. It would be fantastic if we could access it directly like a NAS device through network access or SIS drives. I think they have an interface, but I am not sure how good it is. If we could address a box directly on the network without having to go through a server, it would be great. The replication schemas could be improved. We are not using replication on the storage level right now. We use a different type of replication. If their replication would be as good as the one that we have, I would probably run the replication schema because it might be faster, but I don't know that for a fact. So, I cannot say that they have good replication. All I can say is that they need to inform us better."
"I would like to see some AI features that would allow arrays to intelligently identify threats or unusual behavior in the data pattern and give an alert."
"I would like to see replication and DR features in the next release of this solution."
"In terms of what needs improvement, the dashboard and management could be simplified."
"We need better data deduplication."
"There is room for improvement in the pricing of the product."
"One point I'd like to improve is that the tool should start selling small boxes again. It discontinued some products and is focusing on bigger, more capable boxes, neglecting the SMB market. Even though it's not a big market, it shouldn't have removed them."
"Sometimes, with HP, there may be language barriers, and they seem to cycle through tech a lot more. That said, overall, I always get the answers I need."
"I'd like to see a smaller chassis in the hybrid arrays."
"I don't know how HPE Alletra Storage can be improved; I will have to ask my team what they want next."
"I'm going to skip discussing how HPE Alletra Storage can be improved as I'm not in the technology area right now and haven't paid attention to that."
"HPE Alletra Storage could be improved by making the units lighter. This could be implemented in the next release."
"We faced many problems with HPE Alletra 6000, and we did not understand whether it was because of some issue with the controllers or the disk."
"I don't have the numbers to quantify how much HPE Alletra Storage has reduced our data management operation expenses."
"Pricing is on the higher side; this is a disadvantage that has to be reduced."
"I would like to see greater integration with Microsoft's Hyper-V platform."
"The large hardware components may be difficult to fit into some standard racks."
"The backup solution that they are using now probably has not been deduped."
"I really would like to see synchronous replication. This is something that when we have multiple arrays in our environment and being able to do something like a zero RPO."
"Nimble Storage could increase its flexibility by adding more protocol options. Nimble mainly uses fibre channel protocols, whereas many other storage arrays support fibre channel, iCSI, and NFS protocols."
"HPE Nimble Storage could be improved with some critical application or servers."
"HPE Nimble Storage provides only SAN-based storage and does not support NAS-based storage."
"I would like to see an added feature to auto-fix, or a dynamic alerting system on storage."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"As far as the licensing costs, everything is included in the license."
"They can tout the functionality and cutting edge technology that they have, but that's where the price tag comes in. The cost is high, but I think as they grow their business and get more customers that it will probably go down a little bit."
"With Pure Storage, we would like to continue seeing price reductions with flash storage. I don't think we're any different than anybody else when we continue to look to the industry for price reductions of both NVMe and traditional SSD storage. We would like to see these prices continue to decline and erode, even displacing large spinning disks."
"The support cost per array is about $20,000 a year for 24/7 support."
"With VMware, we pay $300,000 annually."
"Pretty much everything that you need is licensed when you buy the product. Licensing to me is different than the maintenance cost, but they can bleed into one another. We buy the product, and we expect three years of support bundled into what we negotiate on our storage arrays. I would start to see maintenance costs going into the fourth year, but we're not there yet."
"We pay approximately $50,000 USD per year in licensing fees."
"Our licensing fees are $500,000+ USD."
"Its pricing is very competitive."
"HPE was a clear winner on price per terabyte. It was very smooth."
"Its licensing is good. Pricing-wise, there can be a little bit more flexibility. It would help to have different sizes. However, it fits into the budget that we have, so we are happy."
"So far, so good."
"It is fairly priced. It is in line with industry standard pricing and cost models."
"Overall, it was good. It had a good price per gigabyte."
"The main competitor in the market for HPE Alletra Storage is Dell Storage, as they are selling at a low price."
"It is reasonably priced."
"We pay a one-time fee for terabyte licenses, and the support is paid yearly."
"I rate HPE Nimble Storage's pricing an eight out of ten. It can be expensive, especially when considering console ports and renewals."
"HPE Nimble Storage is more expensive than some of the other solutions, such as Pure Storage. They charge more for every feature than other vendors."
"It is a CAPEX investment. Over the anticipated lifespan, I would say the pricing is $10,000 a month."
"I believe the array, maintenance, and everything totaled around $140,000 dollars."
"HPE Nimble Storage didn't require a license at the time."
"The price is negotiable and when we first received the quote it was expensive, but after dealing with them and receiving a discount, the price is reasonable."
"It is cost-effective, which is important for a service provider, because you're competing with hyper-scale providers who do things at extremely large scale, who tend to kill you on price if you're not careful."
