Centralized modular platform has improved data center management and supports mission-critical workloads
The main area for improvement I see is the training process. When you use anything, how easily it is to manage is very important in hyper-converged solutions. If you compare it with VMware, it is very familiar. HPE Converged, however, is very large to understand for a new person. I am talking about training and management perspective, and user management. A system integrator and any system engineer who will operate and manage the system should find it easy to understand any configuration part and understanding part, which is currently a little bit tough. In Virtual Connect, we need some improvement. If we are going to move to hybrid, we need to easily move VM transactions from on-premises to cloud. We require a good, more easy process for day-to-day activities. Performance-wise, HPE BladeSystem is good regarding its ability to support mission-critical applications. However, reliability is all dependent on the core and memories, which will centrally control the entire blade and hyper-converged. We require more reliable things because if something goes down in the controller and center control, it is very tough to manage. We require a centralized image that will be replicated to any other device immediately, and all configurations and everything will come as soon as possible.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The solution has good scalability."
"The stability is pretty good, and I'd say it's on par with other vendors in the same category."
"The Blade Enclosure C7000 does the same job and has the same robust fault tolerance and redundancy, yet at the same time, it's simpler to deal with and to work with."
"In contrast, HP can turn around in two weeks, which is a huge advantage for us."
"No critical outages have occurred at a blade enclosure level in over nine years of use with c7000 generations, other than a single defective OA module."
"Valuable features include the speed at which you can deploy a system, the server profiles, and the ability to move those profiles around at will."
"Items which are more cost-effective have a greater tendency to be refurbished."
"It has reduced, by about 50%, our administration time in terms of server maintenance and we have the ability to withstand an outage that we didn’t have before."
"Overall, the product has great value for money."
"Easy to deploy with better performance and less maintenance."
"BladeCenter HS22 provides great performance and reliability, with two Intel Xeon 5600 (3.60 GHz) processors and 12 VLP DDR-3 memory DIMMs, with expansion capability of 192 GB."
"The technical support is very good."
"We replaced five 42U server racks with two IBM S Series Blade Center chassis."
"The servers have enabled us to run critical applications, backup of critical data, and storage systems on the same products without downtime issues that could otherwise be caused by hardware or software issues."
"The form factor is good for medium-level application hosting and does not take up too much space in the DC."
"Central management of all blade servers and performance: It helps us to access blade servers remotely even at boot time, as well, when we can access the BIOS setup remotely."

Cons

"One way to improve would be in the monitoring and reporting. We get one report per server and it's ten pages long, but at the end, there's no aggregate showing the order of the infrastructure."
"The only missing piece that would be great to add to this converged solution is an integrated KVM system that comes inside the blade enclosure, that will give flexible and easy access to the different nodes in less time."
"I'm not real happy with their tech support. I wish I had better access."
"It would be better if the boot time during POST would be reduced."
"We would like to see faster processing and more memory."
"There could be more management capability to work with integrations."
"HPE has a replacement system called Synergy, though it’s a more high-end system than the old C7000."
"They're not cheap, and for me to buy one is about $75,000 before I put any sort of server inside of it. I'd like the costing to come down a little bit."
"If we talk about scalability, it is quite expensive, especially when you need to buy more blades."
"Performance is good, but on heavily non-linear workloads, they tend to have some issues."
"Firmware updates are troublesome and difficult."
"Need some level of technical knowledge to configure it."
"Because this is an old IBM blade chassis model and servers, we faced a couple of issues during VMware implementation."
"The storage part of this product needs to be improved."
"It was quite unfortunate that I lost data while using this blade server."
"It needs better management software."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"With regards to the prices, they need to adapt to the current needs of the country."
"Regarding the cost, HPE BladeSystem is not cheap. The solution and its support are costly, and there are challenges with renewal and pricing, especially in Nigeria, due to the dollar rate and FX issues. However, it is reliable. I don't have specific figures for licensing costs, as the procurement and finance departments handle them."
"The price for HPE BladeSystem can vary between $100,000 to $1 million or above. The price can be high."
"The licenses for HPE BladeSystem are perpetual."
"BladeSystem is a little bit cheaper."
"The price of HPE BladeSystem is less expensive than some other solutions, such as Dell. The cost of replacement equipment is expensive."
"The licensing is on an annual basis."
"Their licensing program is pretty simple."
