Near-zero downtime has protected critical workloads and now simplifies hybrid cloud recovery
The best features of HPE Zerto Software are mainly very sophisticated and relevant to the current market. The data protection CDP part has real-time replication, unlike other solutions that have snapshot backups. We can set it up hourly, making it ideal for use with workloads. Another attraction is the near-zero RTO, with automated failover within minutes and one-click failover and failback. Currently, we are using a hybrid cloud solution, and HPE Zerto Software supports multi-cloud environments, making it easy to migrate between on-premises and cloud. Regarding the impact of HPE Zerto Software on our RTOs, we have near-zero RTO, meaning the system must be back online within thirty minutes if we measure the time. It is very quick to recover services. With HPE Zerto Software's near-synchronous replication, we have some CDP protection, so we typically write interceptions along with some asynchronous replication. There is almost real-time replication available.

Easy to setup, good support and stable product
When we started, we used Acronis for both cloud and on-premises backups. Protege was a reliable solution, and the cloud-focused approach is well-suited for our current needs. If you require both cloud and on-premises backup capabilities, Acronis is a more comprehensive solution. For solely cloud-based backups, Protege is a solid option.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The features of HPE Zerto Software that I appreciate the most are the continuous data protection and the ability to test."
"What I appreciate most about Zerto is that we can implement it via cloud now and on-premise."
"Zerto offers a much better user experience and has reduced our disaster recovery time by at least fifty percent."
"If we had to deal with a ransomware event, Zerto would be one of the first things I would use, because it is going to be the fastest to restore data to a certain point. If there were a fire in our building, Zerto would be a big thing too, because we would shut down everything that's in our building. In most cases, Zerto is definitely one of the front lines. It's definitely going to be one of our prevalent DRBC layers of protection."
"They talk about technology that can just actually do what it promises."
"We can set up Disaster Recovery environments for our customers in a matter of minutes."
"The continuation to the public cloud has been especially helpful where I can pretty much work with things like hosts and clusters as part of the data center."
"The migration and ease of use are valuable. It is easy to set up and easy to flip. We just need to click on Move."
"Since it is on the cloud, it is a very stable solution."

Cons

"It has become a full-time job at my company for somebody to keep Zerto running all the time, everywhere, and to keep all the customers up and going."
"Their offsite backup is a bit clunky, but it will probably improve."
"My input would be to have their sales engineers not overpromise and then have the product underdeliver because we were scoped not-appropriately sized target hardware. That hit us hard. We went with Exagrid as our target. Because of incorrect sizing, we didn't get the expected compression, and we ran out of space. We didn't have enough capacity for all of our backups the way we wanted them tiered. It crippled Zerto as well."
"Compared to other products, I would praise the intuitiveness of the product. But I think that can always be improved. The intuitiveness of the graphical user interface, while it is very solid and I don't have issues navigating it. I would say that it can always be improved."
"If anything, a lower price is always better."
"Zerto could improve the product by lowering the cost."
"This solution could be improved if it met all the requirements that we look for including supporting multiple operating systems. We would prefer to use one solution for DR and backup."
"To improve HPE Zerto Software, I would suggest that the upgrade process is a little bit average and challenging at the moment, rather than necessarily adding features."
"One area for improvement would be expanding its capabilities beyond Azure-specific backups."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It's fair. My biggest gripe with Zerto is the initial scoping. What we were promised didn't work with what we ended up with."
"You are getting what you pay for, as this is a solution that requires minimal management after it is configured."
"At close to $1,000 a license, it makes it very hard to protect all of your environment, especially for a smaller shop."
"I do not have anything to compare it to. It is expensive, but I am not going to squabble about the price when I bring the system up in a disaster. It is what it is."
"Currently, it is good, but the license we are using is based on VM count. We are only protecting mission-critical servers, so we are using a very low number, about 300. However, we have 3,000 or more servers. If we consider using Zerto for data protection, it would cost us more than what we have for data protection now."
"Compared to other options like SRM, Zerto is a more expensive solution, making it primarily suitable for larger organizations."
"Zerto's pricing model is cost-prohibitive for small—to medium-sized businesses."
"Everyone knows Zerto is a little on the expensive side, but what else is there on the market that does the same thing?"
