Near-zero downtime has protected critical workloads and now simplifies hybrid cloud recovery
The best features of HPE Zerto Software are mainly very sophisticated and relevant to the current market. The data protection CDP part has real-time replication, unlike other solutions that have snapshot backups. We can set it up hourly, making it ideal for use with workloads. Another attraction is the near-zero RTO, with automated failover within minutes and one-click failover and failback. Currently, we are using a hybrid cloud solution, and HPE Zerto Software supports multi-cloud environments, making it easy to migrate between on-premises and cloud. Regarding the impact of HPE Zerto Software on our RTOs, we have near-zero RTO, meaning the system must be back online within thirty minutes if we measure the time. It is very quick to recover services. With HPE Zerto Software's near-synchronous replication, we have some CDP protection, so we typically write interceptions along with some asynchronous replication. There is almost real-time replication available.

An affordable product that offers a reasonably good technical support
I rate the product's initial setup phase an eight on a scale of one to ten, where one is a difficult setup phase, and ten is an easy setup phase. The product's installation phase took me around two weeks. On average, it usually takes about a week or two to deploy when everything is in place. The solution is deployed on a hybrid cloud from Azure.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"During a failover to a DR site, Zerto can automatically change the IP address of servers."
"Provides a simple interface for VM DR."
"Zerto helps with quick recovery and integration with other processes."
"HPE Zerto Software is one of the best software solutions that I have used to date."
"The simplicity of use is valuable. It is easy. We just click Failover and do it. It is pretty straightforward. If someone wants to do a test failover, they log in to the console and do a test failover"
"It's the easiest to use."
"I've used backup solutions like Veeam in the past, but Zerto seemed like a better, faster solution. We adopted Zerto because of the speed, and because we wanted to do everything in-house."
"Zerto helped reduce our customer's VR testing; it allows them to do disaster recovery tests a lot better and a lot safer without affecting the production environment."
"We find the ease of use valuable."
"Stability-wise, I rate the solution a nine out of ten...Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a nine out of ten...I rate the technical support a nine out of ten."
"Nutanix has its own backup system known as HYCU, as well as its own virtual server."
"Nutanix can converge legacy-style rack mount servers, so it is highly scalable."
"Nutanix, in my opinion, will eventually take over."
"I like the autofill-over feature and the simplicity of the solution."
"Our primary use case for the solution is to back up our devices and equipment for employees and some equipment in airport software."
"Nutanix Mine Integrated Backup is useful for those who run an infrastructure where there might arise a need to do some transition or want to opt for digital transformation."

Cons

"When it comes to failover tests, we would like to be able to take that extra step to shut things down and see what it looks like at the other site versus just doing it in a virtual environment."
"Patch management can be better. Although we are doing patch management on the Zerto platform in an automated manner, it can be improved by leveraging some AI-assisted technology. With the help of AI, things are going to be faster in terms of patching the solution."
"Their support can be faster."
"It would also be nice if they could find a way to make it where one VM does not impact the entire journal history of the VPG."
"In terms of improvement, we have VMware and Nutanix, and we are looking for solutions to perform migration between these two setups to save costs."
"I always get some blowback about the cost."
"HPE Zerto Software offers limited functionalities in this area because HPE Zerto Software can analyze the data replicated and tell the customer if there are some anomalies."
"The only thing I really don't like about Zerto is that the ZVM has to be a Windows server. I can spin up any OBA template whenever I want to, but if it has an OS that's tied to it, then I have to involve the OS team from my company. That drives me crazy."
"The solution could be cheaper and they should include more education or marketing materials for users to understand how to use the solution."
"The pricing could be improved. It's an expensive solution."
"It could be cheaper."
"The solution's setup process should be simplified."
"Nutanix is not secure enough, and it needs to be more resilient."
"I would like to see the multi-cloud improve."
"This solution could be improved with regards to the hosts that integrate with the platform itself. Each of the hosts integrated with the storage and networking only provide one instance of a backup."
"The price of the product is an area of concern where improvements are required."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The pricing is very reasonable."
"Zerto does a per-workload licensing model, per-server. It is simple and straightforward, but it is not super flexible. It is kind of a one size fits all. They charge the same price for those workloads. I feel like they could have some flexible licensing option possibly based on criticality, just so we could protect less important work. I would love to protect every workload in my environment with Zerto, whether I really need it or not, but the cost is such that I really have to justify that protection. So, if we had some more flexibility, e.g., you could protect servers with a two-, three-, or four-hour RPO at a certain price point versus mission-critical every five minutes, then I would be interested in that."
"Pricing is kind of expensive, but for what we get, it is probably worth it. I know they just had a huge price increase due to the VMware stuff getting expensive, which added about a thousand dollars a month to our bill."
"Zerto is very cost-effective. We get really great value for the cost of the service."
"If you are an IT person and you think that DR is too expensive then the cloud option from Zerto is good because anyone can afford to use it, as far as getting one or two of their criticals protected."
"Nothing is cheap, but Zerto represents decent value."
"The pricing is based on virtual machines. They need to do better in regards to their tiering pricing rather than one price per VM. A lot of times we have VMs that are lower tier, such as Tier 2 or Tier 3, but we pay the same price as for Tier 1. I know they are developing this out, but it would be nice if they could provide a little better pricing in regards to their tiering protection."
"Its pricing is very competitive. As compared to VMware SRM, Zerto has reduced our OPEX cost by at least 30%."
"Nutanix Mine Integrated Backup is fairly priced."
"I rate the pricing a five out of ten because the price is average."
"On a scale of one to ten, where one is affordable or low, and ten is expensive or high, I rate the price as two."
"While Nutanix Mine is extremely expensive for small businesses, it is a very cost-effective product for enterprise businesses."
