Has simplified credential management and improved secure access control across departments
The features I find most useful in Microsoft Active Directory are especially for the Single Sign-On. This is very useful for users, particularly if they have plenty of applications, such as tablet applications. When they log in to their computer, the application will automatically log in with their credentials. They don't need to remember another user and password to log in to the application because it's already maintained with Microsoft Active Directory using Single Sign-On. To assess the impact of Microsoft Active Directory's centralized domain management on security protocols and access permissions, Microsoft Active Directory itself has constraints with security because when we have a solution such as SSO or Single Sign-On, which makes it easier for users to log in, some parts have security openings. When their computer is compromised with a threat, malware, or other cyber threats, it becomes easier to enter the application without login permission.

Improved user experience with seamless integration and easy installation
The feature that I mostly valued is the ease of installation on different systems, especially on Windows. Additionally, it is very beneficial for deploying single sign-on sessions between different windows on a web browser, provided I am connected to the right identity provider. That seamless integration significantly improves user experience and efficiency.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I find the product makes it easier to enhance various tools with Microsoft Active Directory."
"One valuable feature is the centralized creation of IDs."
"The most valuable feature of Microsoft Active Directory is the group policies."
"Stability and performance are good. So far, we have not observed any major downtime or performance issues since we deployed it."
"These Group Policies provide enhancement, helping to reduce administrative overhead and enhance productivity."
"The solution is easy to install and has good reliability."
"It's useful in bringing order to the system."
"We use the tool for FSMO, policies, and customized user registrations."
"Siteminder allows us to manage identity and portability control efficiently."
"Once we have our authentication and authorization policies set, they are easy to duplicate across all our applications instead of trying to develop them into each application individually."
"This is the only access management product that I have come across which configures end-to-end and hosts resources."
"It is a pretty complete product."
"The solution is easy to use for our managers."
"It provides end users with SSO to our applications – they log in once and they can access all of our applications."
"Segregation duties is another great benefit. It has allowed us to automate the process of creating user accounts really well."
"It has considerably reduced the amount of time that new users would take to join into the organization. Previously, it was a lengthy, manual process because it's a very secure environment, where they need to verify the user before they can actually grant him a user-ID and password. Integrating with the built-in custom application, and exposing CA Single Sign On to the internet, we were able to get the employees onboard. The time that we gained was: previously it would generally take from four to eight weeks for each employee, we brought it to one to two days."

Cons

"Microsoft Active Directory restricts most of the features our company's employees want to use since they are involved in research and development activities."
"They should improve the solution's old computer cleanup tool."
"The interface for logs should be user-friendly and allow for enhanced filtering to drill down to incidents."
"I have encountered a few stability issues."
"The solution could be made more safe by using authentication mechanisms."
"There is room for improvement."
"If Microsoft is going to add anything to the on-prem solution, it should be an updated GUI."
"Microsoft Active Directory fails to provide MFA. MFA, which is also known as multi-factor authentication on top of the password and username, is what I would like to see in the product's future releases."
"Identity Manager and GovernanceMinder should integrate better."
"The Federation part of CA Single Sign On, it's a bit complex to implement because it involves the SSL certificates, exchange of certificates, and lot of technical details. The documentation misses some important parts of this, so that's the reason it took some time for us to go live."
"It seems that when there's a new version, patch, or service pack, we find bugs."
"The policy store configuration, and tuning the policy store is a bit complex in ensuring it does not corrupt."
"The look and feel was not good in the earlier product."
"The setup was not straightforward. I would give it a 7/10 rating - 1 being simple and 10 being complex."
"I'd like to see the federation piece made a little simpler."
"The technical support could be better."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The pricing is not very expensive. I rate the pricing a five out of ten."
"We purchase the license for the solution on a yearly basis."
"Microsoft Active Directory is not an expensive solution."
"The license per user can probably be reduced."
"The solution is based on a licensing model."
"Active Directory is built-in into Microsoft Windows 10. I'm not an administrator and would not be involved in purchasing decisions for new versions of the software. I have only used the client portion of it, I do not know if there is a cost to using the solution."
"I'm unsure about the cost of the solution, as I was never involved in that aspect. However, I don't think it would be expensive. It might be average, around four or five out of ten."
"Its price is reasonable."
"The licensing is fair for this solution."
"Symantec Siteminder is expensive; they could definitely do better on the price."
"The solution's pricing is competitive."
"Siteminder is a little costly. You pay for licensing, and they offer packages, so if you have less users, then you have to buy different products at different prices. If you have more of a user base, then the package is different. They also include other features—for example, if you have a database and you're using Siteminder, then it's good to use a Semantic-specific database, but if you are using less, then you have to purchase the database separately. Whereas if you are going for a bigger license, then it comes within the package. It depends on which plan you are using."
"CA solutions are generally expensive but for the customer the ROI is big."
"I recommend conducting a PoC on every available product before choose one."
"The price is quite comparable to the other enterprise-level solutions in that market."
"The pricing is reasonable."
