Has supported real-time event detection and reporting accuracy while database integration has required extra effort
Sometimes it may be difficult to incorporate new additional databases in NetMon, and we faced some challenges at that time. However, currently, it is not giving many challenges. It is difficult to integrate NetMon with other databases. We can customize NetMon's monitoring views, but it is done by the team who handles it, as it is outsourced.

Efficient monitoring with detailed customization, yet complexity remains
The best feature of WhatsUp Gold is the automatic generation of topology and its integration with virtualization and wireless. I have used the automated device discovery with this topology feature. The interactive map feature helps me manage the topology because sometimes we cannot draw the topology correctly, so we need to manually edit the connections. The alerting system is very tunable and customizable, but it's a little complicated to use. Many customers cannot manage it by themselves and need support from us, the provider. We always use the dashboards in the SOC, where we constantly display a dashboard or multiple dashboards. This allows us to know immediately if the connection or bandwidth is full or if the connection is broken.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"In general, this is a good product."
"Compared to many other products in the market, I think LogRhythm has the highest cost to performance ratio in terms of its value."
"LogRhythm NetMon's most impressive feature is that it's a bundled package, so you're not just relying on monthly data; you get a six-month view for more comprehensive indicators of compromise. This dual approach is precious. We implement LogRhythm NetMon in our cybersecurity strategy mainly for compliance and correlation of network, user, and decision activities, particularly for network firewalls and access control."
"The initial setup is straightforward because we can deploy an open server."
"But just having it there, it's incredibly smart, incredibly easy to use, and the breadth of information we get off it is really good for investigations for us."
"We are using NetMon's real-time traffic analysis regularly with a team of four members who effectively monitor all alerts and events, which has helped them identify whether there could be a severe incident."
"Visibility is a valuable feature, the ability to see even if the traffic is not going into the firewall"
"The analytics feature is the most valuable feature."
"I use it on premises to monitor my network database. We monitor the link up/down and use the SNMP traps as well."
"You have to invest a few days to become an expert in this solution, but after that, it's possible to do almost anything with it."
"The tool's most valuable feature is the visibility it offers of everything in the network and infrastructure."
"It handles the basics of monitoring."
"We no longer have to manually search for problems because we are alerted when something in the network goes down."
"It is very good at monitoring the network and keeps us up to date on the status of internal devices."
"The best feature of WhatsUp Gold is the automatic generation of topology and its integration with virtualization and wireless."
"The visual map and email alerts are very useful to have in real time so we always know the state of our network."

Cons

"Some of the automated tasks we can perform on QRadar cannot be performed on LogRhythm because the solution has limitations."
"Previously, it was typically every Monday that I was coming in - it would die over the weekend - and I would spend a day cleaning up databases."
"The main concern is that LogRhythm has not improved NetMon but instead introduced a separate product, which many customers, including us, would prefer to be integrated into a single platform for easier management."
"I would like to see better integration with multiple products. Integration is not something that is readily available for most of the products."
"There is an issue with tunneling in relation to how the connectivity is established between the end devices and where NetMon is installed. On the console, I often observe that there's a difference of a few seconds or maybe a minute, and this lag time should not be there."
"Could use a topology diagram which would help get an exact visual."
"The training for this product is not very good and needs to be improved."
"Their technical support isn't so great."
"Honestly, I do not particularly like WhatsUp Gold. I think we should get rid of it."
"The initial setup of WhatsUp Gold is a medium range of difficulty levels. However, if it is your first time it could be difficult."
"The product is old and not updated."
"I would like to see them do an enhancement to the application monitoring. A lot of other products do better application monitoring so they should do some improvements to the application monitoring."
"The technical support does not bother to respond."
"Regional product team support is not very good."
"Pricing is too high relative to how many devices we use. The price list is not linear to number of devices."
"The licensing model could be improved. Right now, the levels are too far apart. This causes the solution to be more expensive than it needs to be."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"NetMon's licensing costs about $85k per year, with some extra costs for support."
"The product is expensive for smaller companies."
"The price of this solution is too high, so it should be made more practical and more valuable for the customer."
"Pricing is okay. There were some competitors that were extremely expensive and there were some which were really inexpensive but LogRhythm stayed in the middle of them."
"LogRhythm's licensing part is something that depends on the license you want since they offer it on a perpetual and subscription basis."
"I don't have visibility into the pricing of LogRhythm NetMon as it's handled through our commercial partnerships."
"There is a license needed to use WhatsUp Gold."
"The pricing can be on the expensive side when considering competing products."
"The choice of version depends on the number of points, or devices, that you want to monitor, and this makes the product expensive."
"Pricing is reasonable compared to other products."
"It is per device, per year. The pricing is very clear. If you have a service agreement, you get all of your major upgrades and minor upgrades. It was under $10,000 to go all-in with all of the different add-ons for it."
"The tool's price is reasonable. WhatsUp Gold is cheaper than SolarWinds."
"I'm not sure, but it's expensive. We don't pay any additional fees."
"This is a well priced solution."
