Monitoring has improved bandwidth insights and application diagnosis but setup and costs still need work
They need room for improvement about the spare parts. There are shortages in Egypt in their stock. We tried to make RMA for specific parts, and it took a long time. Comparing this to a vendor like Cisco, who provides any component next business day, NETSCOUT nGeniusONE took a long time. This needs more improvement. I believe it is expensive. They need to reduce its budget a little bit. Comparing to other solutions, it is very expensive.

Efficient monitoring with detailed customization, yet complexity remains
The best feature of WhatsUp Gold is the automatic generation of topology and its integration with virtualization and wireless. I have used the automated device discovery with this topology feature. The interactive map feature helps me manage the topology because sometimes we cannot draw the topology correctly, so we need to manually edit the connections. The alerting system is very tunable and customizable, but it's a little complicated to use. Many customers cannot manage it by themselves and need support from us, the provider. We always use the dashboards in the SOC, where we constantly display a dashboard or multiple dashboards. This allows us to know immediately if the connection or bandwidth is full or if the connection is broken.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"NETSCOUT nGeniusPULSE has an easier dashboard to manipulate compared to SolarWinds."
"Deep packet inspection is a very useful tool as it works in real time and uses serial packet-level analysis."
"This solution has cut our overall troubleshooting time by several days."
"We build application dashboards and performance indexes for locations."
"For common issues, we have seen a measurable decrease in mean time to know (MTTK) and mean time to repair (MTTR), cutting troubleshoot time on many issues from days to hours (or less) and helping increase our application and network uptime."
"When it's implemented properly, and the training is there to use the interface and have it work in your company, and people understand it, it can be very effective."
"The most valuable feature of this solution is being able to drill down into any kind of troubles that are reported to us, by use of identifiers."
"The solution helps us get to root cause quickly by using the Media Monitor to help identify QoS mismatches for voice calls on the network."
"Our local support team provides excellent service."
"This product has aided us in procurement and is overall a well-priced solution."
"In terms of pricing, I'd say that the pricing is nice and the product is good."
"Overall, we have been satisfied with the functionality of the product."
"WhatsUp Gold is very easy to deploy."
"The solution effectively monitors network devices and servers."
"The interactive mapping interface for scrolling, zooming, and drilling down on an element to learn about a network issue is good. When we see a network there will sometimes be a spot that has one link. You can go into a particular part of the topology map, scroll in, and see exactly which module it is."
"The most valuable feature of WhatsUp Gold is NetFlow and the virtualized maps."

Cons

"The technical support could improve a bit with quicker responses for early on questions. What I think are simple questions are taking a long time to get answers to."
"The GUI has gotten better over time but there could be some improvement in how the GUI is built."
"The NetFlow Collectors could handle more flows per minute."
"I would say that this is not a scalable solution."
"Trying to set up dashboards is hard to figure out at times, if you don't do it every day."
"I think it could have an easier to understand interface."
"There is currently less visibility or GUI to analyse the packet for troubleshooting purposes."
"The solution is not great, but it is not bad."
"The tool should focus on increasing its market share, as it is the only area of concern where improvements are needed."
"Importing the maps and being able to customize them could be easier."
"I think there are a few bugs now. Although they give some resolution for this, we cannot share the network remotely because of our company policy."
"The point system is not clear and clarity around this would improve our understanding of the system."
"We can never achieve or get a good picture of the network topology."
"Adding on services increases the cost and on the version we have there is no option for ATM monitoring."
"Integrations with other devices. I want to have a product that has full integration with my active directory so I can track user activity. I want to track my complete user activity, so I'm looking for a product to implement in the near future, which will have full integration with my network and active directory users. It became very difficult to track user activity."
"The technical support does not bother to respond."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It can be scalable. It just costs too much. With a company as big as ours, it gets too expensive to accommodate every single site."
"If you are able and you are willing to use everything that Netscout provides to you, it's probably a relatively fair price. The problem is that it's such a large and such a complex tool that I'm not sure that many companies would be able to use it entirely, the way it's expected to be used."
"Their pricing is very competitive with other solutions... But what I like about NETSCOUT's licensing is that it's shared across all their platforms. They don't create a new licensing scheme for every one of their products. So for nGeniusONE, you buy a certain license level, and it works on all of their products."
"I would like it to be more scalable with less spend."
"It can be expensive, but if you have a good configuration, based on what you are looking for, it's okay, it's manageable."
"The platform is expensive."
"I don't know what the cost to buy the solution was, but I doubt if it's a significant part of the budget as far as the maintenance and support are concerned."
"The tool's price is okay. On a scale of one to ten, I rate it as a five, where one means it is not expensive, and ten means it is the most expensive."
"There is a license needed to use WhatsUp Gold."
"There are some subscription charges that are quite heavy. I need to pay for support every year and these charges can be quite expensive. Aside from the initial cost for the tool, you need to pay additionally for support."
"Pricing is reasonable compared to other products."
"The pricing can be on the expensive side when considering competing products."
"The most valuable feature is the cost compared to other solutions."
"I'm not sure, but it's expensive. We don't pay any additional fees."
"The price of WhatsUp Gold is good."
"The tool's price is reasonable. WhatsUp Gold is cheaper than SolarWinds."
