Experienced ease in automation with strong support while seeking improvements in low-code options
OpenText Functional Testing Lab for Mobile and Web offers flexibility of deployment, from on-premises to UFT One which is on the cloud. They provide capability for immediate deployment, and assets can be migrated easily. They include enablers specifically for quick migration of test assets. While I have not personally been involved in these migrations, I have observed some clients using it directly while others make a complete shift from OpenText to Tricentis platforms. There have not been many clients moving from OpenText platforms from on-premises to cloud because most shifts have been toward different product categories such as Tricentis altogether.

Automation test development becomes accessible and effective for functional testers
Tricentis Tosca is a codeless tool, making it easy for everyone to understand the transition of how to develop scenarios or test cases. In Tricentis Tosca, analyzing failures is straightforward because every time it fails somewhere, I get the screenshot, which helps me analyze how and why it failed. It has all the modules, including some pre-built ones that can be reused efficiently. Compared to other code tools such as Selenium, where I used to develop one script in one day, with Tricentis Tosca I can easily develop one script in four hours or three hours, saving four to five hours in a day.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable feature of this solution is virtualization."
"This is a solution that's easy to use and it also gives us the possibility to use real devices connected either on the Mobile Center server or on our own computers and it works with both iOS and Android devices."
"The product is easy to use."
"The pricing is great."
"The ease of use and being able to enroll more people into developing test scripts using their AI function, which they call AI but is OCR recognition, is significant."
"Using the existing enterprise tools, like UFT, or even if you want to go open source, you can use them and it's a real user-functional performance, we are able to achieve that."
"We escalate tickets to HPE, and we don't have problems."
"ROI is definitely present with OpenText Functional Testing Lab for Mobile and Web; these are very capable tools, and there is no reason ROI should be a challenge."
"The primary driver for us is that it puts automation into the hands of non-technical testers."
"The most valuable feature is the UI-based interface for building modules and turning modules into test cases."
"Before implementing Tosca, the average time that we took for completing regression was about four days, and after we started using Tosca, it has been reduced to six hours."
"The model-based scriptless automation is the most valuable feature because it needs less maintenance as compared to script-based automation."
"It allows manual testers to pick up automation, because it is a scriptless tool."
"Very user-friendly and the low code automation is really helpful."
"To me, what stands out the most about Tricentis Tosca is that even if I'm not a technical tester, I could pick up on how to use it very quickly because of the mechanisms of the tool, for example, its scanning mechanism. I'm not so technical, but I'm able to maneuver through Tricentis Tosca and derive capability. It's a user-friendly tool. It's not very complex."
"The most valuable features of Tricentis Tosca are the ease of use, you do not need to program if you do not want to."

Cons

"OpenText Functional Testing Lab for Mobile and Web could benefit from implementing a low-code, no-code solution that aids in quick automation code preparation."
"They should introduce a pay-per-use subscription model."
"I would like to see more integration with automation tools."
"Because of connection errors, we've haven't yet been able to set it up properly at my company."
"With versions prior to 2.0 I found that configuration was trickier than it should be, particularly with aspects such as NV."
"The product's object detection method needs to be improved since it can help testers do perfect testing."
"However, in some cases we discovered some issues for HPE support regarding the latest enhancements; the delivery time for these enhancements is not as fast as we would like."
"The documentation and user interface both need improvement."
"The integration with mobile testing could be useful."
"We faced some hardships in implementing the solution because of integration."
"When using it with iOS devices, I cannot start automation directly and must use a remote machine."
"The only thing I am not happy about is not so much the product, but it's that we don’t a good way to control licenses."
"I think the downside would be licensing costs which are very high."
"Setup wasn't that straightforward; it was more complex. It all depends on the environment, because there were a lot of errors on our applications. Therefore, it wasn't an easy setup for us."
"The tool lags in client-based applications. We have also encountered issues with the features in integrations."
"10.3 was not stable enough for my expectations."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"OpenText UFT Digital Lab's pricing is average, and I rate it a five out of ten."
"The product could be more affordable."
"While the pricing may seem relatively high, when compared to competitors, it often falls in line or can even be more cost-effective."
"My understanding is that it's an expensive product, although I don't know the specifics with regards to pricing."
"We have around 200 [concurrent] licenses and the cost around $1.4 million a year."
"They are probably more expensive than other comparable tools, but you also get the full suite of testing tools."
"On a scale of one to ten, where one is very cheap and ten is very expensive, I rate the pricing a ten. The licensing model is based on a yearly basis."
"We hired a consultant to figure out all the tools in our company and how they fit in our company before we purchased the solution."
"The licensing cost for Tricentis Tosca is expensive. It has multiple features, but to use all of its features, you have to pay for additional licenses."
"The tool is expensive. It has become overpriced, especially after Tricentis Tosca grew as a company. Initially, we bought a license with an annual support fee, which wasn't too expensive. However, they changed the model, and now we have to purchase a license yearly, which has become quite costly."
"There are two licenses: single user and multiple user. A multiple-user license means that several people can work together on one project and collaborate on code stored in a central location. A single-user license is for people working alone on a one particular application. It's much cheaper than a multi-user workspace. If you are getting a large volume of licenses for an enterprise, you can probably negotiate a discount, but I'm not sure about that."
