Has enabled seamless disaster recovery with virtual rollovers and rapid failovers between systems
Improving Precisely Assure MIMIX is going to be a really hard one; over the years, the tech support started off kind of rough but gradually got better and better as I used it often, being on a first-name basis with many of the customer service reps because of having to call with issues that they were always able to resolve fairly quickly. I would have liked to see more reporting, maybe automation of reports, but as far as integration with other systems, I always used Precisely Assure MIMIX on an AS/400, iSeries, IBM iSeries machine, and I cannot speak to using it on any other device.

Backup operations have become reliable and reporting now simplifies hybrid cloud protection
Veeam Data Platform has Veeam Enterprise Manager as well as Veeam ONE as valuable features, which allow us to generate various kinds of reports that are required for the customer. Instant VM Recovery is a good feature of the high-speed recovery features in Veeam Data Platform, and Continuous Data Protection (CDP) is also a good feature. Ransomware protection is a good feature added in Veeam Data Platform from version 12 onwards, and the ability to create immutable repositories is also a good feature in Veeam. The analytics part of Veeam Data Platform is a good solution because I have worked on various backup technologies such as EMC NetWorker and NetBackup. However, I have not used the analytical parts currently but will check it out. Streamlining processes as well as saving money are benefits that Veeam Data Platform provides for the end user, as it allows for application-aware backups and database backups without the need for various kinds of licenses that other backup software requires. Veeam offers socket-based licenses, instance-based licenses, and capacity-based licenses, which is a great feature.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Precisely Assure MIMIX has positively affected our organization by reducing downtime because it takes 30 minutes from swapping from one box to another; production is back up and running within 30 minutes, and a lot of times, I could get it down to 20 minutes."
"The product's initial setup phase was straightforward and simple."
"I see that the seamless synchronization feature is helpful for your organization or your customers' organization."
"Database replication is most valuable; it is multi-platform, so it can replicate from a variety of different database types to a variety of different database types, and it is a relatively stable database replication product."
"The granular restoration that it provides for a business application is most valuable; for example, for Exchange, we can restore a single mailbox or email, and we can also do SQL Server restoration and bare-metal recovery for operating systems."
"I would mostly recommend this product because it's easy to use and it is easy to install."
"It has very strong and useful features for a virtualized environment such as those based on VMware or Microsoft Hyper-V."
"For us, it's a simple solution for our complex environment."
"The most valuable feature is adaptability, where it automatically adapts to the environment that it's being installed on."
"It's afforded our organisation peace of mind knowing that we have reliable, fast and a cost effective backup solution for our virtual environment which also allows us to provide our developers with both test and pre-prod environments in hours rather than days."
"Instant Backup is an useful feature."
"Veeam ONE effectively centralizes the view of different tools."

Cons

"It does data manipulation language (DML) replication, but it does not do data definition language (DDL) replication. In my opinion, it is a disadvantage. It would be nicer if it was able to do both DML and DDL. I'm not 100% certain of this, but it seems Oracle Golden Gate does both DML and DDL. MIMIX only does DML, and it would be very nice if they included DDL replication. This is one feature that would be very helpful to have."
"There is certainly a strong lobby in the company that feels that by having so many copies of the same set of data throughout the organization, we are going in the wrong direction."
"The high cost of the product is an area of concern where improvements are required."
"The pricing was a little steep; I believe it could have been lower, but for what I received as far as the service, the price is pretty close."
"One thing I see as a drawback in Precisely Assure MIMIX is that deployment is quite complex and it takes time."
"In the next release I would like to see a bit more intelligence as far as a solution or troubleshooting - to put it more on the level of resolution and not simply identifying there is a problem."
"I would prefer it if the backup console did not require use of a specified program, but rather that it could be opened from any website."
"The tech support is always there to help out but you need to take note of the time difference. They don't seems to have dedicated resource to cover the APAC time zone from what I have experienced."
"Not sure, but maybe the weakest area is around integration with tape libraries at times."
"Being able to Backup from Cloud Services like Azure Better Logging to assist you in determining root causes of failures Better Traffic Throttle Monitoring"
"The price could be lower."
"Occasionally, we would experience slowness on our network that would cause Veeam to get out-of-sync with the replicas."
"For me, I have trouble with large VMDK files (multi TB) regardless of where I place the proxy and while there are several others who have similar results, Veeam hasn’t seemed to find a solution for this yet."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The cost of the product is too high."
"The licensing provides the access to support. I do know that there's an annual charge for being able to call into their support line and get a technical team from Precisely to assist with any issues we may have. I don't think there are any additional costs other than what we incur internally in terms of the infrastructure that we need to run and operate the product."
"The changes in pricing have been an interesting aspect. It seems to have become pricier, resulting in a reduction in affordability. There are extra expenses involved, including hardware requirements and the procurement of operating system licenses, which must also be taken into account. I would rate the price seven out of ten."
"I would say that the product is fairly priced."
"Veeam ONE is cheaper when you compare it with one of its competitors in the ops space, VMware vRealize Operations. There's a separate department that deals with the licensing, but my company is using CSP licensing, which is the service provider licensing, so my company doesn't fall under the normal volume at the Veeam Universal licensing program. The cost is commit-based and depends on what your point commit is. The point commit works differently, and it's similar to your sales provider license. If you commit to using one thousand five hundred points, you get a certain price. If you commit to using the eight hundred points scheme, you get a certain price. As you grow the point scheme, you get a different price range, so it doesn't matter whether you're using Veeam One, Veeam Availability Suite, Veeam Backup and Replication, Orchestrate, or whatever the product is."
"The price of the solution is high."
"The pricing is on the higher side, so I think they have to think about the price. It's a stable product and there was no requirement to keep in touch with the support team, so the renewal license was too expensive."
"The pricing of the solution could be reduced."
"I would rate the product's pricing an eight out of ten. The licensing costs are yearly."
"The price is slightly higher than its competitors."
