Everything has worked better since we started using it
Sometimes the syncing is inconsistent. I'm confident that the devices are checking in every eight hours, but sometimes the devices aren't picking up the settings as quickly as I would expect. Some features haven't been updated in a while, and Microsoft doesn't seem interested in developing them. Unless you talk to an engineer, you don't know whether there will be an update. There are communication issues, so you might start working with a feature without knowing if it will be deprecated six months from now. Some reporting areas still need development. For example, I noticed that the reporting for driver updates is still confusing.

A good product for managing patches and updates that could be more robust and up-to-date
I do not really notice anything in the product that is a glaring omission or that absolutely needs to be added. There is always room for improvement, no matter what software package you are using. I would say the room for improvement to me would be to include more diversity in what it can deploy. Right now, it is specifically for Red Hat products. Being able to deploy other products would be a benefit. For example, say if you have Ubuntu running in your network. Being able to deploy packages for Ubuntu with Red Hat Satellite for that product would be nice and would give you more of a single pane of glass solution. Having a centralized repository for your Windows patching would be nice. SCCM is a much more expensive solution than Satellite. You have got the licensing issues and all that wonderful stuff to go through. Satellite is a pretty robust solution in handling its responsibilities. Although I really have not gone through it enough to tell you all the little quirks, it would be nice to see its capabilities expanded.

Easy to deploy, offers embedded monitoring, and is very stable
I am a SUSE partner. I have a central server and then I'm connected to the VPN. That way, I can connect to all different customers. I'd advise new users to certainly read the documentation, as that's what I tend to skip. However, it's an important step. Try to automate as much as you can. One of the most powerful things that I noticed when I arrived, was that it was underutilized, and there are all of these automation capabilities that SUSE Manager has. It's saved just so much time for me. I'd rate the solution at a nine out of ten.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I have seen a return on investment right from the start of the tool's usage."
"Intune makes our organization more secure and flexible. We can onboard new employees faster and more securely. We are a governmental organization with strict regulations, and Intune helps us comply with those requirements."
"We have one MDM that works with Windows, iOS, and Android."
"By using Microsoft Intune we can control which websites the users can go to and it provides a secure environment for our employees using their laptops that are having access from home. We have installed Intune to control the user's environment minimizing the chances of any hacking."
"It has a useful device management feature."
"With on-premises Active Directory, the main challenge was that we had no control when a user was working from home. We didn't know what exactly a user was doing and whether the AV was up to date or not. Intune provides better control of their machines."
"Intune provides a centralized management solution, although its suitability depends on specific needs and comparisons with alternatives like Jamf, Kandji, or ManageEngine."
"It is a helpful tool to manage BYOD policies."
"I like the integration with other tools."
"The product helps me to manage a large number of servers from one console."
"Fixing is the most valuable. When you deal with a lot of hardware and software and you have a lot of packages, fixing is a bit difficult. You need to track and pull up all such things, but Satellite makes this task easy. We have branches in other locations, and I can manage other branches by using Satellite Capsule, which is a great feature."
"The product allows us to handle patching for multiple servers at a time manually."
"The product is convenient to use."
"The most valuable feature of this solution is vulnerability management."
"I'm currently transitioning to the new version 8. It seems necessary to remove some complexities, such as authentication with hypervisors, to streamline the process."
"We've been getting reasonable support from Red Hat."
"SUSE Manager is the best solution for maintaining the Linux environment"
"SUSE Manager helps to optimize operations at a reduced cost."
"The setup is straightforward."
"When it comes to managing both Red Hat and SUSE environments, it provides the support for live patching, which is something I really, really appreciate."
"SUSE Manager is valuable for managing systems, patching, and utilizing SaltStack connectivity for various installations and other routines."

Cons

"China blocks Google and Google Play Store, which makes installation challenging. Microsoft Intune is a company software, which has to be installed to the app portal or Microsoft Software Center."
"I rate Microsoft support between six to eight. The support often involves third parties hired by Microsoft who are knowledgeable, but sometimes the help I receive is not adequate."
"Reporting and troubleshooting for the application deployment could be better. It's very difficult to understand."
"I would like to see better integration with Microsoft."
"Microsoft Intune could improve in reporting data for endpoints and fleets. Enhanced capabilities to run queries and gather specific device data to identify trends or issues would be beneficial. The feature parity for MacOS and handling devices from an MDM perspective is not comprehensive. Consolidation of these functionalities within Intune would simplify processes and finances."
"Sometimes, customers compare it with AirWatch, but the concept of Intune is different from other solutions. It's an application management app. It gets a bit difficult to explain it to customers, but it's not a product limitation. It takes a presale document or presentation to explain it to customers."
"Intune endpoint analytics can be challenging."
"A feature I would want to see added in Microsoft Intune is the ability to manage other non-Microsoft devices."
"The product's automation capabilities need enhancement."
"Red Hat Satellite has a short life cycle and we constantly need to update."
"Red Hat Satellite is a valuable tool for configuration management. It provides advanced services for updates, allowing you to identify and manage servers across networks."
"Red Hat Satellite's pricing needs improvement."
"I would like to see the scalability, user interface, and reporting features improved and for the solution to be simplified. Instead of having complex engineering, it should be simple for the user."
"The solution's initial setup is a little bit tricky."
"They could make it more easy to use and improve the GUI so that it's more intuitive."
"Improving integration could lead to a more unified management experience for multiple operating systems within our data center."
"We sometimes have server issues and need to restart the service."
"I really would like to have a broader library of VCP's or playbooks that I can deploy."
"The initial setup of SUSE Manager is quite complex."
"The initial stage is a bit complex, but after that, everything runs seamlessly."
"It can be complex and difficult for users who are new to Linux and don't have any technical expertise."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Microsoft Intune is pretty reasonable. We have difficulty with Azure, which is probably why we have not put many assets in Azure. Everything we put there is very expensive."
"Its price is fair. It's a normal price. It isn't too expensive or too cheap."
"If you ask the accountant or the finance department, they'll tell you that it is way too expensive, but when I look at the cost and compare it with the value you actually get, it's more than fair."
"It is reasonable for the features it has."
"My team members bundled it together with their Microsoft solutions, including Microsoft 365 and related products."
"Its price is in the medium range. It is acceptable because you're paying for the features. I am not aware of any additional costs."
"As a partner, we always look for how we can generate more revenue from a consulting point of view, but I do not see any complaints from the customer side regarding pricing, so they are satisfied with it."
"Its price is quite okay. I wish they provide certain additional features with the same license."
"The cost for a larger enterprise is probably almost always a boon."
"The licensing depends on the number of servers."
"The solution is worth the cost."
"Red Hat Satellite is a little bit of an expensive product."
"The price could be lower and more adaptive."
"Red Hat Satellite is expensive."
"The product is expensive."
"Its price is good. They call it subscription, not license, and it is on a yearly basis. There is only one subscription, and that's it."
