Enhanced threat detection with integrated security features and good support
We are using application firewalling, WAF, and SD-WAN. The capabilities are mostly within the box. For example, you will get web application firewall WAF as part and parcel of this. SD-WAN is also bundled. It integrates with their SIEM and SOAR solutions very nicely. Lastly, the pricing point is very cost-efficient as well.

Web filtering and traffic balancing have improved security for SMBs but threat insight still needs work
I assess the machine learning capabilities of SonicWall TZ in proactive threat detection to not be at the level of other vendors such as Palo Alto Networks, Fortinet, and Check Point. It is somewhere in between, so I would not recommend it for a large enterprise-level organization to rely on because it is not at that level. SonicWall TZ's content filtering service is reliable. We have used it, but it is not very reliable compared to brands such as Fortinet, Palo Alto Networks, or Check Point. What could be improved about SonicWall TZ is the threat intelligence, which by far is not at the level of vendors such as Fortinet, Palo Alto Networks, and Check Point. Their threat intelligence needs to be improved, as does the GUI, which is not as user-friendly compared to devices such as Fortinet. They could learn from their competitors by making the product more user-friendly. The product interface is not that user-friendly. By adopting a more user-friendly GUI, improving threat intelligence, and enhancing the available guides would be beneficial. In my understanding, in some cases, the KB articles and knowledge articles were not that efficient. They were useful, but they could have been more precise with the knowledge base articles. They need to provide more information about SonicWall TZ, specifically more documentation and more troubleshooting articles. Other than the threat intelligence and the user-friendly GUI, there are no other additional features that I can think of for SonicWall TZ in the future or at least in the next release to make it more competitive.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I think Sangfor NGAF is more valuable than Cisco products because of its simplicity and ease of management. If I compare it with Palo Alto and Cisco, both are quite complex products. And if I compare it with FortiGate firewalls from Fortinet, I have also used all these products. Fortinet and Sangfor NGAF are similar products because the applications behind the application and policy layers are almost identical."
"We are Sangfor Gold partners and I'd recommend this solution for the SMB market, as it is cost-effective and reliable."
"Particularly good in the DPI where we can inspect inbound and outbound traffic."
"The most valuable features are the WAN optimization, the internet access gateway (IAG), and the central console, which allows us to implement on their firewall."
"The built-in features function as intended, providing exceptional value."
"The solution is quite safe and good, and furthermore, it is very good for different environments."
"We use Sangfor NGAF primarily for security, which has helped save our files from being encrypted by ransomware."
"We can utilize our own network rather than paying for a private one."
"This solution is quite stable."
"SonicWall does have the best ease of use I've encountered in my limited experience."
"The most common feature in the firewall, apart from that traditional firewall, would be the security services, like application control, URL filtering, Gateway Anti-Virus, and IPS protection. These are the essential features in the firewalls which I think, has to be enabled and properly used at every network infrastructure."
"There are a lot of security features - including Capture Client, URL filtering, content filtering, application filtering, et cetera, and they are all very useful in terms of protecting our company."
"It has been helpful in many ways; we can see the bandwidth usage for users and how they have used it, and it has also blocked a couple of viruses."
"I have found this solution to be easier to use when compared to other products, such as those offered by Cisco."
"It does exactly what it says on the tin, is good for protecting the business from being compromised, and its port protection is very good."
"As a customer and a reseller, we feel they are doing a really good job."

Cons

"Scalability for any network device is not very easy in terms of vertical scalability."
"An area for improvement would be the number of ports defined on the box. In the next release, I would like them to develop their provisioning stage of enrolling end devices."
"The web interface needs to be improved, making it more user-friendly."
"Sangfor NGAF could improve the policies and default criteria. They could be much better."
"It would be ideal if the solution offered SD-WAN capabilities."
"The solution should be able to work in a hybrid setup."
"There is room for improvement in dependency on certain infrastructure, like the DNS dependency on the current DNS server that the company has. It should be standalone. It should not depend on any other DNS server."
"The product must provide more IPS features."
"If the operation increases and the bandwidth consumption increases, it does not perform as per the expectations."
"I find that the user interface for the product configuration needs improvement."
"There is still room for improvement, and it's not advisable even if the organization has grown."
"User interface could be improved."
"The product needs more free SSL VPN user licenses as the current offering is limited."
"There is a point I don't like about SonicWall in the past and now. Most of the destinations we look at when we're detecting some user using too much bandwidth or something like that, SonicWall just gave us destination IP address, instead of the full qualified domain name. I think that's the most important part that is still missing. I think that's the most important for us."
"Getting support can be slow."
"Its price is very high, which makes it difficult to convince the clients to buy this solution."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"When it comes to the price of firewall solutions, Sangfor NGAF takes the cake."
"Sangfor is cheaper than competing vendors."
"Price-wise, I would not consider Sangfor NGAF to be a cheap product. It is an expensive firewall solution, though not as expensive as something like Palo Alto, which is costly. However, the higher price point is justifiable given the feature set the tool provides that other firewalls may not offer in a single dedicated appliance."
"The price could be more competitive."
"If one is very cheap and ten is very expensive, I rate the tool's price as three out of ten."
"It is one of the cheapest tools in the market."
"I rate the product price as one on a scale of one to ten, where one is low price and ten is high price."
"The pricing is reasonable."
"It is highly priced and has a slow performance compared to other firewalls."
"The price of SonicWall TZ is good for medium-sized companies."
"It comes to a range between five hundred to seven hundred dollars."
"The product is not expensive, but it is not cheap."
"The price could be better for us in Bolivia."
"The firewall with the servers costs about 80 pounds a month. We get the device, and it is replaced every two or three years."
"It has a yearly subscription."
"The solution is moderately priced, where it's neither cheap nor expensive."
