Excellent level three support and highly stable
Pros and Cons
  • "BMC Control-M Managed File Transfer is highly stable. It is enterprise-grade software. Doing a job of 10,000 to 20,000 the solution is very stable."
  • "BMC Control-M Managed File Transfer has a scheduler and what they do is capture the steps based on the script, and then they put it into the Control-M job, or task. Any system that has the script behind it the solution can do it."

What needs improvement?

BMC Control-M Managed File Transfer has a scheduler and what they do is capture the steps based on the script, and then they put it into the Control-M job, or task. Any system that has the script behind it the solution can do it.

The GUI needs to be improved, they cannot provide a good GUI. That's the first improvement they should do.

For how long have I used the solution?

I used BMC Control-M Managed File Transfer within the past 12 months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

BMC Control-M Managed File Transfer is highly stable. It is enterprise-grade software. Doing a job of 10,000 to 20,000 the solution is very stable.

The solution has very few bugs.

How are customer service and support?

I have contacted the support from BMC Control-M Managed File Transfer. We have contacted them a lot, but only for technical aspects of the solution.

Their level two support is not very good. My team was able to solve a problem before they were able to. Level one support is us, the local support, in my country. Level two is usually from, India or another location because their R&D is in India. Level three, I don't know where the level three team is located, but the level three agents are the best. Level two support is not the best.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The license model is based on the number of tasks or jobs required. The price overall is expensive. In my country, we don't have any choice but to use them because no one can match their capability.

What other advice do I have?

I rate BMC Control-M Managed File Transfer a nine out of ten.

File transfer scheduling tool that offers consistent performance at scale
Pros and Cons
  • "I am a partner and an implementer for Control-M. Once purchased by my clients, I implement this solution and provide daily support for this scheduling tool."
  • "This solution could be improved by making it possible to better control GUI when interfacing with other systems."

What is our primary use case?

I am a partner and an implementer for Control-M. Once purchased by my clients, I implement this solution and provide daily support for this scheduling tool.

What needs improvement?

This solution could be improved by making it possible to better control GUI when interfacing with other systems.

Secondly, this solution is very expensive compared to others in the market. Previously it was the only solution in our country to offer this kind of functionality. However, technology has caught up and many competitors offer the same at a lower price.

For how long have I used the solution?

.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

This is a stable solution with very few bugs, whether being used for 1 or 20,000 jobs.

How are customer service and support?

Their L2-support Is not that good and often our team have managed to solve problems which their team could not. However, if there's a problem that needs to be escalated to Level 3, for example, then their engineering support is very good.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.

Great architecture, many valuable features and very flexible
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution supports all file transfers."
  • "The solution lacks a graphical user interface for reporting."

What is our primary use case?

The primary use case of this solution is for when you want certain cases to be executed, like file transfers when it is business to business. The solution is mostly used in the banking and finance domain. We are premium partners with BMC.

What is most valuable?

This is a flagship product. The solution offers every feature that a customer could want, whether it's the architecture or the use case. It supports all file transfers.

What needs improvement?

The solution used to have a graphical user interface for reporting. That is lacking now and it's unfortunate because customers liked it and it's no longer available. In order to compete with IT service desk management, they need to make the product more lightweight, more of a SaaS-based offering. If that were implemented they'd get back to the top. Currently, authentication and authorization portals are provided only in the case of external uploads but that should change.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using this solution for 13 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable and provides good performance.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

This solution is easily scalable.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is simple and takes about a day. We provide all the implementation and  maintenance services. The solution is generally for medium to enterprise size companies.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Licensing costs can be negotiated depending on what the count is or how big the implementation is. I've seen even small banks using the solution and I believe licensing costs are reasonable.

What other advice do I have?

I think it's important to have knowledge about the infrastructure required, and the right data needs to be provided to the implementation partner. Once that's done, the solution is quite flexible to accommodate all requirements.

I rate the solution nine out of 10.

There have been fewer failures with our batch scheduling
Pros and Cons
  • "The pressure on our operations and our maintenance has been reduced."
  • "The report form and display function are weak; they are not very powerful."

What is our primary use case?

We schedule all our batch jobs for business systems through Control-M. Almost all the applications in the organization are scheduling batch jobs with Control-M.

How has it helped my organization?

Using BIM, Control-M helped us to improve Service Level Operations performance.

The pressure on our operations and maintenance has been reduced.

What is most valuable?

It is capable of service orchestration, which is needed by my organization.

It provides us with a unified view, where we can easily define, orchestrate, and monitor all our application workflows and data pipelines. This is very important for scheduling my organization's batch jobs.

The error content of Control-M is clearly displayed.

What needs improvement?

There are four things that need to be improved about Control-M:

  1. Improvement in the slow architecture. Distributed architecture is not currently supported.
  2. The report form and display function are weak; they are not very powerful.
  3. The Web interface is not yet a complete replacement for the C/S interface.
  4. SSO and multi-tenant features are not yet supported.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using it for 10 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is very stable.

We upgrade versions according to the plan. Adequate testing is done before upgrading.

Two people are required for day-to-day maintenance.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It provides general scalability.

There are about a dozen people who use the solution: administrators, operators, and observers.

How are customer service and technical support?

We have opened case requests to their support.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We did not previously use another solution.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was straightforward.

What was our ROI?

While there is no specific ROI, there have been fewer failures with our batch scheduling.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

There are human costs in addition to the standard pricing and licensing of this solution.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We evaluated other options. The main differences between solutions were their Gartner scores.

What other advice do I have?

Buy and use it.

We developed a localized platform for managing Control-M.

We don't have MFT functionality.

The biggest lessons from using this solution: service orchestration and automation.

I would rate this solution as nine out of 10.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises
