Reliable, easy to install, and technical support if helpful
Pros and Cons
  • "This solution's most valuable feature is its short deployment time."
  • "Pricing could be improved. It could be lower."

What is our primary use case?

I am not using it right now because I am an integrator working on projects for my customers.

ExtremeCloud IQ is used to manage many types of Extreme Network devices. Only Extreme Networks are used. WiFi access points, switches Switches, and wifi access points are the most common.

What is most valuable?

This solution's most valuable feature is its short deployment time.

You can install certain equipment without it, but make it a template first and then connect the device. And the device will already be configured, after connecting to the internet.

What needs improvement?

Pricing could be improved. It could be lower.

In terms of technical features, there are a lot of them. I don't see the need for any new features at this time. It's a complete product.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with ExtremeCloud IQ for approximately a year and a half.

We are using the latest version.

Excellent cloud management solution with quality data storage and other features not offered by other vendors
Pros and Cons
  • "ExtremeCloud offers features that not a lot of other vendors do like their data storage and the ability to swap licenses."
  • "The main reason why a lot of customers choose this solution is because of how scalable it is."
  • "I would like to see more security features such as NAC integrated to the solution. This would allow customers to be able to control all other users under one dashboard."

What is most valuable?

ExtremeCloud offers features that not a lot of other vendors do like their data storage and the ability to swap licenses.

What needs improvement?

I would like to see more security features such as NAC integrated to the solution. This would allow customers to be able to control all other users under one dashboard.

I am excited for the SD-WAN pieces to be added as well but I believe that there are already plans for this to happen.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for the past seven years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

This is a stable product, I have not had any issues regarding stability.

A perfect solution that provides good performance and throughput and lets you do almost everything
Pros and Cons
  • "What our customers like the most is that this device is so rugged. It has very good performance and throughput. Its console is very easy to use and has many features, which makes it different from its competitors. Cloud IQ has all the features built into the console, whereas other solutions require you to integrate multiple solutions with their consoles. You don't need to add anything extra with Cloud IQ. With this single solution, you can do almost everything."
  • "Its price could be lower. It is a simplified solution, but it has price challenges. It is costly as compared to other solutions. It has almost everything. The only thing is that MAC is not possible on the cloud, and it has to be on-premises."
  • "Its price could be lower. It is a simplified solution, but it has price challenges."

What is our primary use case?

We sell this solution to customers. In terms of deployment, some customers require an on-premise solution, and some are okay with the cloud solution. It is a mix of both environments. We provide the latest version of this solution.

What is most valuable?

What our customers like the most is that this device is so rugged. It has very good performance and throughput.

Its console is very easy to use and has many features, which makes it different from its competitors. Cloud IQ has all the features built into the console, whereas other solutions require you to integrate multiple solutions with their consoles. You don't need to add anything extra with Cloud IQ. With this single solution, you can do almost everything.

What needs improvement?

Its price could be lower. It is a simplified solution, but it has price challenges. It is costly as compared to other solutions.

It has almost everything. The only thing is that MAC is not possible on the cloud, and it has to be on-premises.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for approximately one and a half years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is a very stable solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is very much scalable. It supports more than 100K access points in one console.

How are customer service and technical support?

We got good support from them.

How was the initial setup?

It has a very straightforward setup. There is not much to do. We just have to configure the console. That's it.

The deployment duration depends on the configuration that a customer wants, such as how granularly they want to configure the policies and whether they want to configure it as a WiFi. It is a cloud-based solution, so it generally doesn't take long. If you want to connect the API and make it live, it is a one-day job. Once you configure the controlled access, the API will connect to it, and you have to just push the policy on that API.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It is costly as compared to Meraki, Aruba, Juniper, and Cisco. Cloud IQ is an enterprise solution, whereas Meraki is specifically a single solution.

What other advice do I have?

I would definitely recommend this solution. It is very good and stable. You don't have to go with multiple consoles and their integration.

I would rate ExtremeCloud IQ a ten out of ten. It is a perfect solution.

Professional support, scales well, simple to use, and suits many needs for many customers
Pros and Cons
  • "The support organization behind this product is extremely professional."
  • "Overall, we are definitely satisfied with this product."
  • "Having a wizard for customers who are just starting might be helpful."
  • "First time users may find it difficult to get going into the right direction."

What is our primary use case?

We are a distributor and ExtremeCloud IQ is one of the products that we have experience with. It is primarily used by bigger companies in industries such as healthcare.

What is most valuable?

The support organization behind this product is extremely professional.

This is a product that suits the many needs of many customers.

We are happy with the interface.

What needs improvement?

First time users may find it difficult to get going into the right direction. After registering for a new CloudIQ, where to start. Some guidance would be helpful.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with ExtremeCloud IQ for two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It's extremely stable. Most of the time, it works like a charm.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

This is a very scalable product. It works fine with two or three access points, but also in an environment where you have hundreds or even thousands of them.

How are customer service and technical support?

We have had no issues with technical support.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward. If you want to have a straightforward network, it's extremely simple to set up.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It is not the cheapest product but I think that the price is reasonable because you get a lot of support of it's needed. This is a professional access point.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

There are many alternatives that we evaluated, and we chose ExtremeCloud.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, we are definitely satisfied with this product. They are well ahead of what I want to see. Sometimes, when I think that a new feature might be nice, it's there already.

My advice for anybody who is looking at this product is that there may be a small barrier to getting started, but just jump over it and you will definitely be surprised by the simplicity of the whole product.

The autopilot version of Cloud IQ is coming, and it has a lot of artificial intelligence in it. It will handle jobs that the normal IT person does. You can just leave it alone, close the door and throw away the key.

I would rate this solution a ten out of ten.

Very stable and easy to configure and deploy
Pros and Cons
  • "Its configuration and deployment are the most valuable."
  • "It has been a great product."
  • "They can improve just the onboarding process. More user information about the introduction to the product would be helpful. It would be good if they have a better user introduction to the new product because it is different than the prior version."

What is our primary use case?

We use it for general business.

What is most valuable?

Its configuration and deployment are the most valuable.

What needs improvement?

They can improve just the onboarding process. More user information about the introduction to the product would be helpful. It would be good if they have a better user introduction to the new product because it is different than the prior version.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using ExtremeCloud IQ for six months. I have used its prior version in my previous company.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is very stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I don't know about scalability at this point. Right now, it is just 5,000 square feet with two nodes.

How are customer service and technical support?

I haven't had any reason to contact them.

How was the initial setup?

Once I figured it out, it was easy. There is an actual deployment interface, and if you can find this deployment interface when you first log into the application, it helps to speed up the deployment.

What about the implementation team?

I implemented it myself. It was quick after I figured out the interface.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I did a multi-year license. It was a three-year license.

It compares well with others in terms of the price. It is about a hundred dollars per year on a three-year scale.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend taking a positive look at it. It has been a great product. I have used its prior version and never had any complaints with it.

I would rate ExtremeCloud IQ a nine out of ten.

Being a controller-less solution makes it more cost effective and gives more flexibility
Pros and Cons
  • "Being a controller-less solution is more cost effective and gives more flexibility."

Less than one year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability is good.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is scalable.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Pricing is a bit expensive.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend going with this solution. It's a good product.

HiveManager is useful for managing APs and switches from one cloud interface.
Pros and Cons
  • "HiveManager is incredibly useful for managing APs and switches from one cloud interface."
  • "Need port aggregation on the 2384 switches to take full advantage of ac on the APs. I understand that is on their product road map."

What is our primary use case?

30,000 sq ft manufacturing and admin facility, three stories with three distinct networks- production, guest, and barcode scanners so voice/data, guest, and IoT.

How has it helped my organization?

  • Reliable WiFi across each floor.
  • Segmented networks.
  • VLANs for security.
  • Much better environment for our users.
  • We have been able to physically and virtually separate IoT, voice, and data.

What is most valuable?

  • HiveManager is incredibly useful for managing APs and switches from one cloud interface.
  • It is simple to onboard new devices, and update policies across all devices.
  • Great dashboard: visibility into status and use is crystal clear; easy to navigate.
  • Support has been great as well.

What needs improvement?

Need port aggregation on the 2384 switches to take full advantage of ac on the APs. I understand that is on their product road map.

The Aerohive access points have dual 1GB Ethernet ports for aggregation, which enables full 2.6Gbps data. Right now our partner through Aerohive support is telling us that the Aerohive switches currently don’t support port aggregation so we only are using one Ethernet port at the AP’s.

At this point in time, it’s not an issue, and have been told that port aggregation will be available on the Aerohive switches. That’s important to me- as the demands on our network grow we will need to get the full bandwidth out of the Aerohive AP’s.

When I researched the purchase the benefit of managing the switches and AP’s in one interface, and the ability to single source network infrastructure, including installation and management, outweighed the decreased data rate. So, I’m looking forward to this being available soon. That’s the best information I have on this at this time, hope it helps.

For how long have I used the solution?

One to three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

None, zero. It runs like the proverbial top. No stability issues, whatsoever. We have good, clean power to the switches and as it is a new building, our infrastructure is brand-new. Update in October of 2018- still completely satisfied with Aerohive switches and AP's. Performance has been perfect, I appreciate the updates and enhancements to the HiveManager and am in that almost every day for the reporting. I truly appreciate working with a company that takes innovation seriously and continuously improves the UI and UX. I would definitely buy again.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have not encountered any scalability issues; nice to add devices with just a serial number and have them pick up the entire policy. HiveManager works well for monitoring, maintenance, and scaling.

How are customer service and technical support?

Customer Service:

Customer service is excellent. From RFQ through deployment and hand off to support, we have been completely supported by sales, engineering, and technical staff.

Technical Support:

Technical support is outstanding: responsive, fast phone pickup, helpful, survey every time, been great. They have been right, and right there, when I call. Now that we're past implementation and stable I haven't had to call- product is great.

Update in May of 2018- we have another year of solid Aerohive performance and remain a completely satisfied customer. We invested in a survey to update our power and channel output as the building environment changed- new industrial equipment, and focus on coverage areas as people changed- and made only minor adjustments. System continues to perform as expected, and Aerohive support remains solid.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Have used Netgear, Cisco, and others. I saw the APs demonstrated and HiveManager, and went with them for the quality of the product and the ability to manage everything from one cloud-based interface.

How was the initial setup?

Initial setup was fairly complex as we had several VLANs with different security and operational requirements. We also had a 10GB aggregation to our SonicWALL and everything went great.

What about the implementation team?

It was implemented by both an in-house team and a vendor team. The vendor team was on-time, thorough, on-budget, knowledgeable, responsive, and thoroughly professional. We got some help from Aerohive support as well.

What was our ROI?

  • Solid WiFi
  • Ease of management
  • Ability to upgrade the whole system and stay on top of the network.

A big ROI for us is managing the segments to keep voice and data physically and virtually separate, along with the ongoing expansion of IoT devices. Update October 2018- we have added some IoT networks and managing them through the HiveManager has been simple and secure and keeps IoT and our data network separate.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Value is there. There are probably cheaper solutions but we invest for stability and performance for the longer haul. Features and support are a big part of our purchase decisions.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Before choosing this product, we evaluated Extreme Networks for the switches; excellent but would have required additional management and expertise. I looked again at Netgear but went with Aerohive for the reasons I've mentioned, and HiveManager.

What other advice do I have?

I believe Aerohive is committed to being a leader in this space and that their APs for the enterprise campus are the best available. I would like to see port aggregation on the switches but have been told that's on the roadmap, and that's acceptable at this time. HiveManager make the whole process of configuration and management of the network so much easier. I'm a fan.

HiveManager is extremely easy to use for anyone with little network experience
Pros and Cons
  • "HiveManager is extremely easy to use for anyone with little network experience."
  • "The cloud-based controller through HiveManager is its most valuable feature. I can manage and configure changes to my access points from anywhere."
  • "Aerohive has been the perfect fit for a University like us."
  • "Browser load time for the cloud is long and needs improvement."

What is our primary use case?

WLAN deployment for girls' hostels of the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka. It has four hostel complexes for in-house undergraduates. Our University has the largest WLAN deployment in Sri Lanka. Now, we are expanding it to cover all rooms in the hostels. This time, we are seeking a cloud-based system with BYOD.

How has it helped my organization?

This is an implementation stage for Aerohive Wireless. We are still in a PoC with Dell Sri Lanka. HiveManager is extremely easy to use for anyone with little network experience.

What is most valuable?

The cloud-based controller through HiveManager is its most valuable feature. I can manage and configure changes to my access points from anywhere.

What needs improvement?

Browser load time for the cloud is long and needs improvement.

For how long have I used the solution?

Still implementing.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We chose to evaluate Aerohive and Cisco Meraki for this project. Price-wise Aerohive is the lowest competitive bidder for this WLAN project.

What other advice do I have?

The cloud interface is decent. It has a smooth dashboard.

Aerohive has been the perfect fit for a University like us. I am the Senior Network Administrator of the University. I am thrilled that I have no worries about our wireless network.
