Offers good speed, security, and performance to users
Pros and Cons
  • "The speed, security, and performance of Google Cloud are excellent."
  • "As a new product, the product's initial setup phase is a little bit difficult."

What is our primary use case?

So far, I like all the features that I use with Google Cloud. I like it very much compared to the previous tool that we had.

What is most valuable?

The speed, security, and performance of Google Cloud are excellent.

What needs improvement?

Actually, our company doesn't venture out much to use all of the products and features covered under Google Cloud because we do have our own customizations when it comes to the setups for the company. We are trying to maximize our resources, the cost, and the assets, and we want to control it on our own.

The product's initial setup phase is a little bit difficult, so it is an area where improvements are required.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have three months of experience with Google Cloud. My role in the company is as a researcher and a developer. I am an end-user of the tool.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Stability-wise, I rate the solution a nine out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a nine out of ten.

We are working with approximately 300 users of the tool in our company.

How are customer service and support?

The solution's technical support was average. I rate the technical support a six out of ten.

The technical support for Google's platforms are embedded under products, so we are meant to go for self-learning. My company does not have experience with human intervention when it comes to Google. Only self-learning is needed for the products.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Right now, we have Google Cloud's Compute Engine and SQL Server, but we have not used the tools yet because we are diverting into self-hosting.

Previously, I worked with Microsoft products for my previous employer. All Microsoft products, including Office, servers, databases, and SQL Server.

How was the initial setup?

As a new product for us, the product's initial setup phase is a little bit difficult.

The product's deployment phase took place over a month. I then deployed the virtual machine, VPC, the storage, and SQL Server. We ran it for a couple of days, and then we saw the billing and the cost. The cost is based on the products you used, CPUs, Storage, Memory, API access and bandwidth. We saw that the tool was great but very costly for us, and so we did not continue.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

If one is cheap and ten is expensive, I rate the tool's price as an eight.

What other advice do I have?

I rate the tool a nine out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

A public cloud platform providing good analytics feature for moving and transforming data
Pros and Cons
  • "Regarding Google Cloud's data analytics features, I find the presentation of information and the ability to move and transform data to be the most valuable. As for machine learning capabilities, they are helpful, especially in detecting anomalies or outliers in our data. For instance, Google Cloud can identify unusual network behavior and provide recommendations on how to address or leverage these findings effectively."
  • "I think one area that could be improved in Google Cloud is the customer support. Sometimes the integration process can be a bit complex due to format errors. Also having clearer documentation or a larger support team could really help users like me understand and resolve issues more effectively."

What is our primary use case?

I primarily use Google Cloud for analytics purposes. The data originates from our on-premise cloud system but is transferred to Google Cloud for analysis.

What is most valuable?

Regarding Google Cloud's data analytics features, I find the presentation of information and the ability to move and transform data to be the most valuable. As for machine learning capabilities, they are helpful, especially in detecting anomalies or outliers in our data. For instance, Google Cloud can identify unusual network behavior and provide recommendations on how to address or leverage these findings effectively.

What needs improvement?

I think one area that could be improved in Google Cloud is the customer support. Sometimes the integration process can be a bit complex due to format errors. Also having clearer documentation or a larger support team could really help users like me understand and resolve issues more effectively.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Google Cloud for the past four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

In terms of stability, I'd give Google Cloud a nine out of ten as it's very stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Google Cloud is scalable, which serves our organization's scaling needs well. We have multiple users directly interacting with the technology, and while we don't have immediate plans to increase usage, we would consider extending it in the future.

As for scalability, I'd rate it a ten out of ten as it's more than enough for our needs.

How was the initial setup?

Integrating Google Cloud with our existing systems has been. Deployment is super fast, and takes a couple of minutes.

What was our ROI?

Google Cloud has helped us save time, approximately around thirty to forty percent.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Google Cloud is on the expensive side for us. I don't have exact figures on the cost per year or month.

What other advice do I have?

I haven't used Google Cloud for AI projects personally. But I have utilized Google AI for optimizing Google Ads campaigns. It's an automated machine learning model that uses data from websites to understand customer behavior and improve marketing strategies for better results like increasing clicks or purchases.

My advice for those considering Google Cloud is to have a technical advisor due to its complexity. It's data-driven, stable, and scalable, which are strong advantages.

Overall, I would give it a rating of around an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Useful auto-scaling, highly reliable, and straightforward setup
Pros and Cons
  • "Google Cloud's most valuable attribute is its capability for on-demand auto-scaling, and it also simplifies numerous intricate tasks for its users."
  • "The price of the solution could be more transparent."

What is our primary use case?

We are migrating some of our application workloads from an on-premise system to Google Cloud using Kubernetes.

What is most valuable?

Google Cloud's most valuable attribute is its capability for on-demand auto-scaling, and it also simplifies numerous intricate tasks for its users.

What needs improvement?

The price of the solution could be more transparent.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have used Google Cloud within the last 12 months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate the stability of Google Cloud a nine out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I rate the scalability of Google Cloud a seven out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

I have not used the support from Google Cloud.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup of Google Cloud is straightforward. However, the migration of workload is complex.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We approached Google Cloud with certain cost assumptions but were surprised to find that our actual expenses were higher than expected. Initially, we had anticipated spending a set amount on the solution, but in reality, we ended up spending more than that. It would be helpful to have greater transparency and educational documentation on the cost-related aspects of Google Cloud.

What other advice do I have?

My advice to others wanting to use this solution should have a migration strategy and there are other solutions on the market with similar features. User education is critical to be successful with the solution.

One of the challenges when it comes to Google Cloud is how to familiarize traditional Java developers, working database administrators, or data engineers with its offerings. The question is how to teach them to use it effectively and ensure that it functions properly. If the education is successful, Google Cloud can be a fantastic solution to work with.

I rate Google Cloud a nine out of ten.

Simple with a straightforwards setup but does not seem to provide virtualization
Pros and Cons
  • "Technical support has been good."
  • "I find it hard to download items, especially on their operating system."

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use the solution for data. For example, we use it for email and Google Docs and sheets and content of that nature.

What is most valuable?

I find that Google Cloud is easier to understand than other options.

I like its product offering, which is simpler to figure out and automate.

The setup is straightforward.

It is scalable.

The solution is stable.

Technical support has been good.

What needs improvement?

I'm still confused by the usefulness of the cloud and I'm not sure why everyone is moving there. I don't trust the act of sending my company's information to whoever knows where instead of having it safe on my own servers.

I find it hard to download items, especially on their operating system.

The Google operating system leaves a lot to be desired.

It does not seem to provide any virtualization whatsoever.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've used the solution for a while.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable and reliable. There are no bugs or glitches and it doesn't crash or freeze.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Cloud providers like Google are designed to be scalable. The issue is you are supposed to be bursting at the seams before you scale and that doesn't make much financial sense.

How are customer service and support?

The customer service is very good.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I'm also familiar with Azure. I've used Microsoft products for ten years or so, however, I find Google to be simpler.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was pretty straightforward and simple.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Pricing is pretty good. However, all cloud products offer pretty close to the same pricing.

What other advice do I have?

I haven't used a lot of cloud products and haven't experimented too much with Google Cloud, beyond playing with Google Workspace.

From what I have experienced, I would rate it seven out of ten.
