Helps to upload a document, create a link, and share it with others
Pros and Cons
  • "We can share documents with the whole class. Sharing information Using Google Drive and Google Cloud is very common."
  • "There are some areas where Google Cloud could be improved. Specifically, they are not well-aligned with right-to-left languages like Hebrew and Arabic. We encounter numerous issues when we use documents that mix right-to-left languages with left-to-right languages, such as Hebrew and English. This lack of alignment creates significant problems. Considering more than 400 million Arabic speakers, this is a central area where improvements would be beneficial."

What is our primary use case?

Unlike some tools we have on Microsoft, Google Drive allows me to share documents with people outside my organization easily. I can upload a document, create a link, and share it directly. With Microsoft, sharing with people outside my organization often requires additional permissions, possibly due to our IT policies.

For presentations, I use Microsoft tools for work-related tasks, but for personal projects, such as creating something for my child's class, I upload and share them via Google Drive instead. Additionally, we use Google Drive to upload and store personal documents.

The product is intuitive and comfortable to use. People may not realize they can create and share presentations and documents with a link.

What is most valuable?

We can share documents with the whole class. Sharing information Using Google Drive and Google Cloud is very common.

What needs improvement?

There are some areas where Google Cloud could be improved. Specifically, they are not well-aligned with right-to-left languages like Hebrew and Arabic. We encounter numerous issues when we use documents that mix right-to-left languages with left-to-right languages, such as Hebrew and English. This lack of alignment creates significant problems. Considering more than 400 million Arabic speakers, this is a central area where improvements would be beneficial.

I think Google Cloud needs to address this issue by conducting research involving Hebrew, Arabic, and Persian speakers. They should also look into improving their tools to better support right-to-left languages.

For how long have I used the solution?

The product should be more cost-effective.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the product for six years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The product is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

How was the initial setup?

The tool's deployment is not complex.

What about the implementation team?

Google Cloud's deployment can be done in-house.

What other advice do I have?

I rate the overall product an eight out of ten. Various factors come into play when considering the adoption of Google Cloud. Cost is a significant consideration, but it's not the sole factor. The availability of skilled developers in the market, technology support, scalability for future growth, and the range of products offered are also crucial. Additionally, the ease of finding Google Cloud-certified developers and the level of support from the company or vendor contribute to the decision-making process.

A scalable and secure solution that enables users to increase storage based on their needs
Pros and Cons
  • "We can increase the storage as we need."
  • "The price can be lowered significantly."

What is our primary use case?

The solution is used for storage for disaster recovery. It is used to store all the company data outside the company premises. It is also used for backups, AI processing, and database storage.

How has it helped my organization?

Some services use AI, and we use those services from Google.

What is most valuable?

The protection is good enough. We can increase the storage as we need. The global infrastructure impacts our service availability and latency positively. Some customers want their data stored in Europe. Others need it closer to where the users operate to minimize the latency and lag for accessing the data.

What needs improvement?

The price can be lowered significantly.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for ten years. I am using the latest version of the solution.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The tool is stable. I rate the stability a ten out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The tool is scalable. I rate the scalability a ten out of ten. We have five users in our organization. The users configure and deploy the tool for our customers. It is not for our internal use.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is simple enough if we know what we are doing. After the right amount of training, it's simple. There is a learning curve, but it is not very high or steep. The time taken for deployment depends on the architecture we are deploying.

What about the implementation team?

The deployment was done in-house. We are a software development company. We have in-house personnel for deployments.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It's not an upfront cost. It grows when we need it to grow and comes down when we need to scale it down. We pay per use monthly.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We also use AWS and Azure. We adapt to products based on our customers’ needs.

What other advice do I have?

People who want to use the tool must analyze their specific case before they commit to a cloud platform. In some cases, one of them might be better than the other. It is not generic. It depends on the use case. Our goal is to help our customers use the service. So, the scalability doesn't help us directly. It helps our customers grow.

There are different use cases. The value for us is that we can offer cloud-agnostic services. Regardless of the customer preference, we can help them configure their cloud systems. Overall, I rate the solution an eight or nine out of ten.

Helps to create virtual machines and DR on the cloud
Pros and Cons
  • "Every cloud provider, such as Google Cloud, offers analytics capabilities through their dashboards. These dashboards can be configured to display the data you require. Some features are available by default, while others can be created according to your needs."
  • "Google Cloud should provide more introductory videos on how to get started. Currently, very few of these resources are available. Additionally, training on Google Cloud products is not very well streamlined. Users have to search for training, which can be quite complex."

What is our primary use case?

These cases involve infrastructure services, such as creating virtual machines in the cloud. A notable use case is creating a DR server or hosting a centralized authentication tool like Microsoft AD or an LDAP server. These should run on the cloud because it provides a high level of availability. When creating a DR, it should be on the cloud to ensure accessibility from any location and protection against various threats, such as power outages, resource constraints, viruses, hackers, or physical attacks.

Thus, DR should always be on the cloud, while production services can run on-premises. Authentication servers and critical data backups should also be on the cloud for secure and global accessibility. For instance, the backup of a primary application server should be stored on the cloud to ensure it is secure and accessible from anywhere in the world.

What is most valuable?

Every cloud provider, such as Google Cloud, offers analytics capabilities through their dashboards. These dashboards can be configured to display the data you require. Some features are available by default, while others can be created according to your needs.

What needs improvement?

Google Cloud should provide more introductory videos on how to get started. Currently, very few of these resources are available. Additionally, training on Google Cloud products is not very well streamlined. Users have to search for training, which can be quite complex.

Google Cloud needs to enhance the intuitiveness of its portal because new users might not be familiar with the workflows. To help users get acquainted with fundamental operations, Google Cloud should offer a basic introductory course free of charge. Microsoft Azure excels in this area, providing excellent documentation and free introductory learning videos.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the product for five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The tool is very stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The tool is immensely scalable.

How are customer service and support?

How was the initial setup?

The setup is somewhat intuitive but could be more user-friendly.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

For commercial purposes, users need to pay for the products they use on a workload basis, not a license basis. There are two pricing models: fixed monthly and pay-as-you-go. In the pay-as-you-go model, users pay for the resources they use, while in the fixed monthly model, they have 24/7 access to resources for a set monthly fee.

What other advice do I have?

I rate the overall product a nine out of ten. When choosing a cloud provider, users must consider their use cases and Opex. If certain use cases can only be fulfilled by Google Cloud, then Google Cloud is the necessary choice. However, if any cloud provider can address the use cases, users should compare costs and choose the most cost-effective option. Users need to balance their requirements between use cases and costs.

Users should familiarize themselves with all the major cloud providers and their competitive features and advantages. The three major providers in India are AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud. Users should conduct a competitive analysis to understand each provider's unique features. I advise users to explore and compare these features before choosing a cloud provider.

Easy setup, scalable, and stable
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution is user-friendly and easy to spin."
  • "The security of the solution can always be improved."

What is our primary use case?

I use Google Cloud to spin up the Kubernetes cluster.

What is most valuable?

The solution is user-friendly and easy to spin.

What needs improvement?

The security of the solution can always be improved.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Google Cloud is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability of Google Cloud is good.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward. All we have to do is make our request and the cluster should be available to us.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Google Cloud offers free credit when we sign up for a minimal amount of gigabytes. The service is cheap and I give it a seven out of ten for the cost.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

For learning purposes, I explored both AWS and Azure on my own, and I have also used other cloud environments. When I originally started out in the cloud industry, this was my basic approach.

What other advice do I have?

I give the solution an eight out of ten.

I recommend Google Cloud to others.

Offers free storage, stability and reliable product
Pros and Cons
  • "I like that it is free. It's easy to use, and it's reliable."
  • "The Notes application could be better."

What is our primary use case?

It's mostly for storage of personal documents, some photos, and emails.

How has it helped my organization?

It's purely for personal use.

What is most valuable?

I like that it is free. It's easy to use, and it's reliable.

What needs improvement?

The Notes application could be better. Some of the email portal features can be tricky, but my mom uses it just fine, so it's probably intuitive enough.

And some of the email portal features. My mom sometimes has trouble with them, but she's not very tech-savvy, so that's understandable. The fact that she can use it at all shows that it's pretty user-friendly.

For how long have I used the solution?

I started using Google around 2012. I've been using the cloud version.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I've never had a problem with stability so I would rate the stability a ten out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I have a free business account, and my family uses it as well. It's easy to use, it works, and it is free, and we all have our own domain email addresses. It's absolutely awesome.

I'm good with the free Google account I have. It allows ten users, but I only need four or five, so it's plenty for now.

If we ever need more storage or users, it's easy to upgrade by paying a small monthly fee. It is really simple.

How are customer service and support?

Never needed it. It's always just worked perfectly.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Google Cloud was the first one I signed up for. It's always worked, it's always been free, and I haven't had a reason to look elsewhere. I don't see a need to at this point.

How was the initial setup?

I've been using it for so long; it just always worked. There was no setup; it just worked.

What was our ROI?

I can stay connected with others. I have free email, free storage, free notes, and free Google apps, and I use it in conjunction with the free Linux operating system on my computer.

I don't need to pay for licensing for anything.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I don't pay for the license. For me, it's completely free.

What other advice do I have?

Just try it out. If you like it, stick with it. If not, then look around for something else. But in my experience, if you find something that works, don't overthink it. Just use it.

It's been a great service for my needs. Overall, I would rate the product an eight out of ten because there is room for improvement.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud

A competent cloud solution that needs to increase storage and improve its pricing
Pros and Cons
  • "Google Cloud is very user-friendly."
  • "I would like to see an increase in storage with Google Cloud."

What is our primary use case?

I'm using Google's solutions in the cloud to search for documents, store them, and so on. Since I have retired, I'm speaking as an individual user.

What is most valuable?

Google Cloud is very user-friendly, so whenever I face issues, I can handle and fix the issue myself.

What needs improvement?

For Google Cloud, the availability could be improved. I'm from China, and Google Cloud is not so popular there. Other than that, I would like to see an increase in storage with Google Cloud. For example, I use Baidu Cloud. Their cloud storage reaches the limit. In China, the biggest problem with Google Cloud is price.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using these tools almost constantly in the three decades I've been in the IT industry. Now, as an individual user, I don't use Google Cloud that often.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I retired as an executive from a top IT solutions company, and companies that use Google Cloud have 50,000 to 70,000 employees.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

In China, public clouds like Alibaba Cloud are similar to Google Cloud in terms of flexibility, but the difference is that in China, they compete on price. And users get similar clouds at a very low price. Those clouds are different from Google in that way.

The top three cloud services in China are Alibaba Cloud, Huawei, Tencent, etc. The top cloud service providers like Google, Azure, and IBM Cloud are not visible or popular in China.

Moreover, an alternative, like Microsoft, has problems with scalability. I use Microsoft Office and its email, and when I get too many emails, the performance is noticeably a problem.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward. I can set up the solution by myself or with a little help from my colleagues.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Google Cloud is not completely free. You have to pay for a license.

In China, the public cloud providers price public cloud services very low. Overseas companies like Google, Microsoft, or even IBM face difficulty competing on price. Most users are casual users who won't go deep into the sophisticated features and functions. They only look at the price, and that's a big big factor.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Google Cloud a six or a seven out of ten. I don't think I could recommend Alibaba Cloud people to use Google. The biggest problem is price, and there's no comparison. Moreover, Google has to improve its storage and scalability. Today, most users need storage and computing power, especially with ChatGPT-type AIGC. Usage is taking a lot of computing power. Public cloud services' usage by normal individual users is on the rise.

Reliable, not too expensive and able to extend
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution is pretty stable."
  • "It is complex to set up."

What is our primary use case?

We use the solution for extended storage or for data. It's a platform that we use for storing documents and migrating proposals. If you want to move a document from one database or person to another, you can use data as a place to hold it and keep it secure.

What is most valuable?

I like the Drive. It's easy to use.

It is scalable.

The solution is pretty stable.

The product isn't too expensive.

What needs improvement?

The subscription is expensive, and the data on offer can be too small. If you don't have the right size, it will delete what is over the allowed amount. If you go over your allotment, they want you to extend it, and you need to keep paying extra. Otherwise, you lose access to stuff that is over the storage limit.

It is complex to set up.

We'd like Google to add more storage to the license the longer you use it.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've used the solution for a while. I've used it since my college days.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable as long as you have the right subscription. Every month, you need to make sure you have enough storage.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is scalable for my needs. You do have to pay more to scale. However, it's mostly affordable to do so.

I'm the only user. I use it for my own personal purposes.

How are customer service and support?

I've never used technical support.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I've used Microsoft previously as well.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is not exactly straightforward. It's a bit complex.

You have to be careful you are ensuring enough storage is there or being added. If you don't take a proper subscription, data will be removed.

What about the implementation team?

I can do the deployment by myself.

What was our ROI?

I've not looked into ROI.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

You do need to take a subscription. If you do not, your data can be deleted. You need to keep buying more and more storage as you grow. The licensing is paid by myself monthly.

It's not too expensive. I'd rate it eight out of ten in terms of affordability. The price isn't the factor. The storage is the issue. They need to have more storage available and constantly added.

What other advice do I have?

I'm an end-user.

I am using the latest version of the solution.

I'd recommend the solution to other users. I've recommended it to my colleagues. It's a good way to distribute data.

I'd rate the solution eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?
