How are customer service and support?

The technical support from Oracle is good and responsive. I used them for security updates and patches.

    How was the initial setup?

The setup is fine, but it depends on many factors.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The price of Oracle Database is too expensive and especially for individual environments. The pricing model is not clear, if I want to run it on a virtual environment, I still need to license the whole physical box.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

    I have evaluated MySQL.

What other advice do I have?

My advice is to others wanting to implement Oracle Database is to first look at the open-source products, such as MySQL, because sometimes they can do as good of a job as Oracle Database.

I rate Oracle Database an eight out of ten.

Disclosure: My company does not have a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer.

A stable database solution with high performance levels
    Pros and Cons
    • "Oracle Database is very stable. In terms of stability and performance, Oracle is super. On the database side, Oracle is number one in our tests."
    • "The price could be better. Oracle Database could also be easier to scale."

What is our primary use case?

We are running Oracle databases in Oracle Exadata.

    What is most valuable?

Oracle Database is very stable. In terms of stability and performance, Oracle is super. On the database side, Oracle is number one in our tests.

    What needs improvement?

The price could be better. Oracle Database could also be easier to scale.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using Oracle Database for quite a long time, and probably since 2002.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

    Oracle Database is very stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Oracle Database could be easier to scale. As Exadata is not easily scalable, Oracle Database is also not easy to scale. We have over 10,000 applications running on Oracle Database.

How are customer service and support?

We use a local Oracle company for support, and they help us whenever someone has an issue.

    How was the initial setup?

We have done a lot of Oracle Database installations, and we are pretty familiar with it. So, it's easy for us.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The Oracle license is quite expensive, and we pay on a yearly basis.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend Oracle Database to new users if they can afford the price.

On a scale from one to ten, I would give Oracle Database a ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

    On-premises

    Pros and Cons
    • "One of the most valuable features is the stability."
    • "Oracle Database could be improved by adding more automation."

What is our primary use case?

Our primary use case is for managing our ERP solutions. We use SAP as well. Oracle Database is deployed on-prem.

    What is most valuable?

One of the most valuable features is the stability.

    What needs improvement?

Oracle Database could be improved by adding more automation.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Oracle Database for around 15 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

This solution is very, very, very stable.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We didn't use another solution before Oracle. At that time, I think most of the applications that we were using weren't running on a database.

    How was the initial setup?

The installation is very straightforward. I have no complaints. We did it ourselves and it didn't take much time. I think we've done it three times and you can install it in a day or two. We've also done upgrades along the way.

    What about the implementation team?

We implemented through an in-house team.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We pay for a yearly licensing subscription. Funds permitting, we have plans to increase usage for Oracle Database in the new year.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Oracle Database a 10 out of 10. I would definitely recommend this solution to others.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

    A reliable solution
    Pros and Cons
    • "The solution is a reliable database."
    • "Support is not available when one encounters problems."

What is our primary use case?

We use the product as a hotel solution, a hotel PMS program.

    What needs improvement?

Support is not available when one encounters problems. The database has performance parameters.

It would be nice to be able to switch cluster features for creating multiple databases towards business continuity.

Installation of SQL Server is comparatively much easier than that of Oracle Database.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Oracle Database in excess of ten or fifteen years.

How are customer service and support?

Support is not easily obtainable when one encounters issues.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

There is no comparable difference SQL Server's usage and that of Oracle Database. They are both reliable databases. Owing to program decisions, certain products make use of Azure SQL and others Oracle.

SQL Server has a considerably easier installation than Oracle Database.

I give both Oracle Database and SQL Server a rating of nine out of ten.

    How was the initial setup?

SQL Server's installation is considerably easier than that of Oracle Database.

What other advice do I have?

Both SQL Server and Oracle Database are deployed as private clouds.

I rate Oracle Database as a nine out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

    Private Cloud

    What is most valuable?

Provides great security and support for our business
    Pros and Cons
    • "The solution has great security."
    • "Lacks features that would improve database performance."

What is our primary use case?

This solution is the corporate base that supports ERP solutions and all our systems. We are customers of Oracle and I'm the CIO.

    What is most valuable?

There are two valuable features for us; the security of the solution and the availability that this database offers us. With the increased move to digital processes, availability is very important for supporting our business.

    What needs improvement?

The performance could be improved and I think they should work towards providing features that will improve database performance. It would also be helpful if they could come up with something to detect performance problems more easily.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using this solution for 20 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is very stable. Our company has over 1,000 users and we'll keep it at that for the time being.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support is very good.

    How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is quite straightforward but it requires a professional Oracle database administrator who is an in-house employee.

What other advice do I have?

It's important to evaluate the availability in a corporate database. It's also worth assessing how the database is protected against cyber attacks and how difficult it is to maintain and administer it.

I rate this solution nine out of 10.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

    On-premises

What is our primary use case?

We're using Oracle Database for corporate enterprise resources planning, manufacturing systems, etc. It's deployed in a Red Hat Linux environment.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using Oracle Database for about 15 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Oracle Database is stable. I'm quite happy with the performance.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Oracle Database is scalable. We're running it on around 250 devices.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We previously used some small-scale SQL servers running Microsoft SQL Server for access control.

    How was the initial setup?

    Installing Oracle Database is straightforwad.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The price should be lower. We're currently paying for it yearly.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Oracle Database 10 out of 10. I would definitely recommend it.

    Reliable, feature-rich, and secure
    Pros and Cons
    • "I like the enterprise features as well as the stability."
    • "I believe that the simplicity of installation and configuration for logging in to Microsoft and PostgreSQL could be improved."

What is our primary use case?

We use Oracle Database for banking and data warehousing.

    What is most valuable?

I like the enterprise features as well as the stability.

    What needs improvement?

The pricing model and scalability could both be improved.

The level of global support given could be improved.

I believe that the simplicity of installation and configuration for logging in to Microsoft and PostgreSQL could be improved.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with Oracle Database for 20 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Oracle Database is a stable product.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

When it comes to scalability, Oracle Database is not at the top, but it is better than some of its competitors.

We have hundreds of users in our organization.

How are customer service and support?

The local support is fine, but the global support is terrible, and not worth the cost.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

    Previously, we used IBM products.

    We are also using Microsoft.

We use PostgreSQL, but it is not currently in production.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing model could be better.

When using this solution, there are no additional costs.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend PostgreSQL for long-term use.

I haven't seen an alternative if they need a reliable and secure solution for a mission-critical quality control system, because Microsoft lacks enterprise features and PostgreSQL isn't well-established in banking.

I would rate Oracle Database an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

    On-premises
