Stable, has a good user interface, and is scalable
Pros and Cons
  • "There's a good online community that can help users troubleshoot issues."
  • "The pricing could be better."

What is our primary use case?

I primarily use the solution for high transaction services.

What is most valuable?

I primarily use the Oracle Clock feature. For me, it's the most valuable aspect of the product.

The user interface is quite good.

We haven't had any problems with support.

We've found the integration with other solutions to be acceptable.

The stability is great.

We've found the solution to be scalable.

There's a good online community that can help users troubleshoot issues.

What needs improvement?

The solution could be better and more constant at higher-speed transactions. The solution could be more stable and offer more data. In SQL, I find more consistency.

The licenses could be improved. They should examine their structure. The pricing could be better.

The initial setup is complex.

It would be nice to have cloud and on-premises options available. It would be ideal if there could be integration with cloud services.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've used the solution for a while.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability has been pretty good. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. It's reliable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability is good. If you need to scale it up as a company, you can do so. I have not heard of anyone having any problems in that regard.

We have 2,000 to 3,000 users not eh solution typically.

We mostly deal with large businesses.

How are customer service and support?

We haven't had any issues with technical support. However, I haven't really had a chance to interact with them, and therefore can't really speak from personal experience.

There are lots of communities that deal with Oracle. Typically, if you have a question or a problem, you can find an answer online and you don't necessarily need to turn directly to Oracle support.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is not very straightforward. The Oracle manual is complex and the steps involved are not so easy to explain. The initial process and configuration can be tricky.

The deployment itself took about half a day or so.

The maintenance is pretty easy. It doesn't take up a lot of time.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Oracle needs to offer better pricing.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Our first option was Oracle, however, we also looked at Postgres SQL.

There are a few key differences, including the license. They also differ in terms of the reliability of services and the specifications. It is a more complicated process. It is a very very complicated process to customize things, for example.

What other advice do I have?

My company is an Oracle partner and reseller for end controls. My company is a management and service provider.

I'm using three versions of the product - Versions 3, 11, and 12.2.

I'd rate the solution at an eight out of ten. We've been mostly happy with the product.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Scalable with good technical support and excellent stability
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution is very stable with the performance being very reliable."
  • "The security of the solution could be improved. It's an area that isn't as good as it could be."

What is our primary use case?

We are primarily using the solution for Oracle RAC - Real Application Clusters.

What is most valuable?

The solution is very stable with the performance being very reliable.

We've found that it is very easy to scale the solution.

The installation is very simple and straightforward. The deployment process happens very quickly.

Technical support has always been helpful and knowledgeable.

What needs improvement?

The security of the solution could be improved. It's an area that isn't as good as it could be.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for about ten years or so. It has been approximately a decade. I've used the solution for a long time.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable. The performance is very good. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. It's very good.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution can scale quite well. A company that needs to expand it, it can do so with relative ease. We haven't found any issues or shortcomings in that respect.

We have about 50 or so people in our organization that are using it at this time.

Although it hasn't been fully decided, we may increase usage in the future.

How are customer service and technical support?

We have dealt with technical support in the past. They have been helpful and responsive. We're quite satisfied with the level of service we receive. I have no complaints.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is very straightforward. It's not overly complex. It's very easy. A company shouldn't have any issues with the initial setup.

The deployment is very fast. It takes about an hour or so.

We have 10 engineers that are capable of implementing the solution.

What about the implementation team?

I handled the implementation myself. I did not need the assistance of an integrator or consultant.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We do not have to pay for a license in order to be able to use the product.

What other advice do I have?

We are a customer and an end-user. We don't have a professional business relationship with Oracle.

I would rate this solution, on a scale from one to ten, at a ten. We are extremely satisfied with its capabilities.

I would recommend the solution to other organizations and users.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Great data replication with good scalability and a straightforward setup
Pros and Cons
  • "You can scale the solution without any issues."
  • "The solution is very, very expensive. This keeps it as a niche product."

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use the solution for Oracle E-Business suites. It's the database for ERP.

What is most valuable?

The data replication is the most valuable aspects of the solution. We've got Oracle Data Guard set up and we've got two sites - one in Johannesburg and one in Cape Town. We do data replication every 30 minutes from one site to the other.

The initial setup is straightforward.

You can scale the solution without any issues.

The great thing about the solution is that it comes with pretty much everything. SQL Developer is part of it, and you can scale databases from 20 users to 50,000 users. It's actually a very solid database.

What needs improvement?

The listener could be improved. The listener could be far more easily configurable. If you want to change ports or add a fail-over listener, it could be a little bit more seamless.

The solution is very, very expensive. This keeps it as a niche product.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using Oracle for 15 or 20 years. It's been well over a decade and maybe as much as two. It's been a while.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution can really scale if you need it to. We've scaled it up a few times in the environment and we've never had any issue. From that point of view, everything seems to be good.

We have about 2,500 users on the solution.

How are customer service and technical support?

We've been in touch with Oracle on a daily basis. We just moved to another version. They really helped us. They were helpful and responsive. We're satisfied with the level of support we receive.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is not complex. it's very straightforward. A company shouldn't have any issues with the implementation process. It's very easy.

We have our own team that handles the maintenance as necessary.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It's really expensive, however, that's what makes Oracle a niche player. It's not something every company can have its own. It's for the elite, it's for the prestige. It's for the ones who really do good business.

What other advice do I have?

We are customers and end-users.

Recently, we've upgraded EBS to a later version.

I'd recommend the solution to other organizations. That said, it all depends on what you're trying to support. I use it in conjunction with their EBS, so, for me, it's the perfect fit. You can't split it anyway. Oracle EBS only works with an Oracle Database.

I'd rate the solution ten out of ten overall.
