For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution since 2017. I am presently using the most recent version of Sophos Cyberoam UTM, which is version 20.0.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It’s very stable. We have not had any issues.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable. Thus far, we haven't encountered any challenges related to the system load. It provides the flexibility to handle our requirements smoothly.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

One of the reasons to opt for Sophos Cyberoam UTM was influenced by its impressive features and capabilities. The user-friendly Graphical User Interface (GUI) was another attraction. We needed something simple and user-friendly. We wanted to eliminate the need for extensive command-line operations, as often required with other solutions like Cisco Firewall.

We also wanted a tool that could enhance the visibility into our network utilization and monitor traffic in real time. Moreover, Sophos Cyberoam UTM's web application filter feature was also an attraction.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was straightforward. The deployment was primarily conducted to assess the organization's requirements and objectives. Initially, our main goal in selecting this device was to have control over our internet usage. We performed a user acceptance test, created various use cases, and evaluated what capabilities Sophos Cyberoam could offer. Once we were satisfied with the results, we proceeded with the deployment.

Our initial actions involved configuring the system settings and determining which websites users should access and when. For instance, during work hours from 8 AM to 4 PM, we restricted access to social media sites and YouTube. This helped us optimize internet speed. The first steps included registering the device and configuring its basic settings. Over time, we continued to implement and refine policies based on the evolving needs of the network.

The deployment took approximately two or three days. Initially, the vendor encountered challenges, possibly due to a skill gap. Subsequently, an expert from Lagos had to intervene and complete the deployment. This extended the deployment timeframe to about three days. Maintenance involves renewing our license and conducting firmware updates. Whenever a new release for the device is available, we ensure to apply it. These routine tasks constitute the core of our maintenance activities.

What about the implementation team?

We had a vendor join me in the deployment. We also had an expert come in when we faced difficulties with implementation.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The product's pricing is a challenge. The recent subscription renewal has raised concerns within our organization because it is becoming too high for us. I'm apprehensive about our ability to sustain these increased costs. I'm used to the device and would like to continue using it. However, justifying the renewal may become difficult for me in the future.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We have worked with Cisco Firewall and Netgear Firewall.

What other advice do I have?

In terms of features and user-friendliness, the solution is good. Overall, I rate the solution an eight out of ten.

A stable and user-friendly UTM solution that is suitable for SMB companies
Pros and Cons
  • "The product is a simple and user-friendly UTM that can handle accounting, reporting, firewall, IPS, and antivirus for industries."
  • "The solution should improve its scalability because it cannot support enterprise networks."

What is our primary use case?

The use cases for the solution are different. It is used by petrochemical companies, government companies, universities, private companies, hospitals, and hotels.

What is most valuable?

Sophos Cyberoam UTM is a very good solution for SMB companies and can handle their many requirements. The product is a simple and user-friendly UTM that can handle accounting, reporting, firewall, IPS, and antivirus for industries. It is a good solution for accounting and managing users.

What needs improvement?

The solution should improve its scalability because it cannot support enterprise networks.

Cyberoam was discontinued five years ago, and they have no new features. Sophos continues their products under the XG brand name. I would like to see Sophos XG features included in Cyberoam.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Sophos Cyberoam UTM for ten years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Sophos Cyberoam UTM is a very very stable solution.

I rate Sophos Cyberoam UTM ten out of ten for stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Our clients are small and medium businesses.

I rate the scalability a five out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

The solution’s technical support is very very good. They have online chats and remote support.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was very very simple. I rate the ease of setup a ten out of ten.

What about the implementation team?

The solution’s deployment takes one to two days.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The product has a very low price compared to other solutions.

I rate the solution’s pricing a two out of ten.

What other advice do I have?

I have installed Sophos UTM for more than 100 companies in many countries. The XG model has good features and it continues with Cyberoam features. We can find new features in Sophos XG for Cyberoam.

The solution is not good for current times. We cannot find Cyberoam products in the market. It is discontinued. People should buy Sophos XGS.

Overall, I rate the product an eight out of ten.

Stable and has a straightforward setup; reporting is fast and easy
Pros and Cons
  • "I found that the best feature of Sophos Cyberoam UTM is reporting. Its reporting feature is excellent, fast, and easy to prep and launch."
  • "Sophos Cyberoam UTM has room for improvement in specific rules-based objects and redesign. The solution also needs to improve in adding rules and policies, including renewing and finding policies."

What is our primary use case?

I used Sophos Cyberoam UTM as a captive portal and user management software. I used it internally for internet usage.

What is most valuable?

I found that the best feature of Sophos Cyberoam UTM is reporting. Its reporting feature is excellent, fast, and easy to prep and launch. Reporting is also straightforward to do in Sophos Cyberoam UTM.

What needs improvement?

Sophos Cyberoam UTM has room for improvement in specific rules-based objects and redesign.

The solution also needs to improve in adding rules and policies, including renewing and finding policies.

The Sophos team should make Sophos Cyberoam UTM policies and rules better and more useful than the old ones because that can be difficult and confusing sometimes. For example, adding policies or rules can be confusing, and that can be risky.

To improve Sophos Cyberoam UTM, Sophos should add an IPS or IDS signature feature in the current plans offered to customers.

Upgrading or patching the solution can be slow, so that's another area for improvement.

In the next version of Sophos Cyberoam UTM, I want it to have an appliance management feature, similar to what's in FortiManager, where you can connect all appliances and manage the devices because that would be easier in terms of reporting.

For how long have I used the solution?

In my old project, the company used Sophos Cyberoam UTM for five or six years. I last used it one year ago.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Sophos Cyberoam UTM is a stable solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Sophos Cyberoam UTM is scalable, but there seems to be a tiny problem when integrating the older version of the solution.

My company has virtual appliances on the network, and in enterprise networks, you want to launch a ComNet hook or everything at the cores rather than patches. It would be best if you first thought about scalability in the microservices. If you have software-defined appliances to launch in that infrastructure and integrate that with the infrastructure, that would be very useful, so you don't need an appliance.

On the other hand, if an appliance is required in your network, you sometimes don't want to use public or cloud services, and the solution should be okay with that or should still work.

How are customer service and support?

We don't use the technical support for Sophos Cyberoam UTM that much. We only use support to get data, and they're very good in that area.

How was the initial setup?

I found the initial setup for Sophos Cyberoam UTM straightforward.

Deploying the product takes one to two days, and it's ready for work. Sophos Cyberoam UTM is a straightforward appliance. It's not complicated. If you have the knowledge in configuring or designing the network and the basics of the file log, you can launch Sophos Cyberoam UTM and run it for your network in one or two days.

What was our ROI?

You get ROI from Sophos Cyberoam UTM. In the security world, measuring ROI is not very simple. You want to get the ROI for the appliance. You want to pay for that security, so you want to get KPIs such as ROCE. You want to get security tools because you won't know how much threat could get into your network, and then when the threat gets in, how much damage would that cause your business? This is why you pay a fee for a security solution.

Sophos Cyberoam UTM is a good investment for your business, whether small or massive, with one hundred to three hundred employees because the solution can help you avoid the considerable damage security threats and risks can do to your business. You can even calculate your current ROCE before the problem even happens.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Cost-wise, Sophos Cyberoam UTM is a good solution. Customers don't collapse upon hearing the price for it. Usually, my customers want to launch Sophos Cyberoam UTM.

My company pays for the license of Sophos Cyberoam UTM annually.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We evaluated Fortinet solutions such as FortiGate, FortiWeb, and FortiAnalyzer, which are good solutions for important transactions. We evaluated them recently and planned to implement them as we grow.

What other advice do I have?

I used version 7.1 of Sophos Cyberoam UTM.

Fixing and patching, or maintaining Sophos Cyberoam UTM, is a slow process. It's slower than FortiGate and F5. F5 and Fortigate have faster patching and UIs, including new features every month or two, versus Sophos Cyberoam UTM.

You will only need a few staff to deploy Sophos Cyberoam UTM, but it still depends on the work, the scope of work, and the network. One to two staff will be enough to manage and maintain Sophos Cyberoam UTM if it's an easy deployment. For a middle-sized network, you'd need more staff.

In the largest network of the company, three hundred people used Sophos Cyberoam UTM. Usage-wise, my company increases it whenever there's company growth.

I recommend the solution to SMBs because it's easy to manage.

My rating for Sophos Cyberoam UTM is ten out of ten.

A stable and scalable solution that provides good malware protection functionality
Pros and Cons
  • "In some circumstances, the malware functionality is the most important feature, and in other cases, some other features."
  • "The solution's pricing could be a problem for some small businesses."

What is most valuable?

We use a lot of Sophos Cyberoam UTM's features depending on the customer's needs. The overall solution is good. In some circumstances, the malware functionality is the most important feature, and in other cases, some other features.

What needs improvement?

The solution's pricing could be a problem for some small businesses.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have worked as a reseller with Sophos Cyberoam UTM for ten years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability of the solution is very good.

I rate Sophos Cyberoam UTM a nine out of ten for stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution scales very well for us. We have 20 clients using Sophos Cyberoam UTM. Our customers are usually small and medium-sized businesses.

I rate Sophos Cyberoam UTM an eight or nine out of ten for scalability.

How are customer service and support?

The solution’s technical support is very good because we have good connections to Sophos.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

Since we are technicians, Sophos Cyberoam UTM's initial setup was quite easy for us.

Depending on the difficulty and customer requirements, the solution's deployment could take a few hours or a couple of days.

I rate Sophos Cyberoam UTM ten out of ten for the ease of its initial setup.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution's pricing depends on the customer size. We have small and medium customers, and it's not so easy for them to finance this product. Although it's not a very cheap solution, Sophos Cyberoam UTM is in a good price range considering its feature set. Considering what you can solve with the solution and what you get for your money, the solution has valuable pricing.

On a scale from one to ten, where one is cheap, and ten is very expensive, I rate Sophos Cyberoam UTM's pricing seven out of ten.

What other advice do I have?

The primary solution in the future will be the Sophos XGS firewall solution that will replace Sophos Cyberoam UTM.

Overall, I rate Sophos Cyberoam UTM a nine out of ten.

It comes with useful port-forwarding features though it should improve blocking
Pros and Cons
  • "The port forwarding is good."
  • "The blocking needs to be improved."

What is our primary use case?

We use Cyberoam just like a VPN, usually as a VPN channel.

What is most valuable?

I like the reliability and the price. But sometimes, my customer asks for cheaper solutions, though I propose we focus on reliability.

Aside from that, the port forwarding is good. Sometimes you hold some servers on-premise, and then you can have someone access another country or anywhere. The VPN is also good.

What needs improvement?

The blocking needs to be improved. Sometimes we need to block YouTube, Facebook, or something like that, and then we need to optimize our Internet. The Internet in the Philippines is very bad, and it's kind of expensive if you want a high-speed connection. We're getting to the next generation, but we must improve our Internet. We then have to make policies where users cannot access certain websites to optimize the Internet because sites like YouTube take a lot of latency, especially on HD. But sometimes Cyberoam doesn't work like that, and we must use another third-party solution like Trend Micro. Trend Micro does the job, but Cyberoam should be the one that does the job because it's the firewall itself. Cyberoam needs to improve that kind of security blockage.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have used Cyberoam UTM for three months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The firewall doesn't need any maintenance. We just have to leave it in the data center in a very cold environment. I have never experienced a firewall failing, and I have been working for almost 12 years. We can pay for maintenance since it's already included in the service.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It's not scalable, but that depends on the budget and hardware. The firewall does scale between 100 to 200 users, but that depends on the model.

How are customer service and support?

The service could be improved here in the Philippines. We don't have a lot of problems with the US team for Cyberoam.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is very easy because the GUI is easy for me to use.

Deployment is very easy, we just have to connect to the ISP we have, set the support load balancing, and then we just have to connect to our core switches. Then we have to distribute it to any of the other users. The deployment can be done solo because there is a setup wizard. We can configure the settings and then put a static IP address through the ISP, but it's very easy.

What other advice do I have?

With good security, you can expect it to be expensive. Cyberoam's pricing depends on the services you subscribe for. Most firewalls right now, especially UTM, focus on services and stagger all the services. If you want a particular service, you pay for it.

We don't have a lot of problems with Cyberoam. We don't face any issues if the IT or security administrators have a lot of experience. We can easily configure any firewall or security solution without any bugs. But I'm sure I won't encounter any bugs, unlike with Cisco.

I cannot recommend Cyberoam because navigating the graphical user interface is very difficult. It's not so familiar. I'm not gonna recommend it unless there's someone who already knows how to use firewalls. I used to focus on Cisco firewalls, but the Cisco firewall is much harder than Cyberoam. If you're going with Cyberoam, that's good because every security administrator or any information technology manager knows how to recommend the latest trends. Cyberoam is not the top trend in the Philippines.

I rate the solution a seven out of ten.

Easy to use, simple to set up and reliable
Pros and Cons
  • "The reporting features are very good."
  • "The solution could be cheaper."

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use the solution for unified threat management. We basically use it for firewall and network management.

What is most valuable?

The solution is easy to use. It's simple to set up and configure.

It puts you in control of your infrastructure.

The reporting features are very good. It offers very good visibility.

The solution provides very helpful alerts.

It offers decent pricing.

The solution is stable.

The product can scale to a certain extent. We haven't hit our limit.

What needs improvement?

We do not have any specific features in mind for improvement, however, we'd always like more features.

The solution could be cheaper.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've used the solution for five years or so. I've used it for a while.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We've always had very good stability. We've never had a problem with the stability. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I have not explored the scalability. It is tied to the hardware. The unit we have would support zero to 500 people. After that, you would need to get a new appliance However, we've never exceeded that appliance limit. If we ever exceed the appliance, we'd look to see what other options are available in the market. Most products in the market are quite comparable to Sophos.

How are customer service and support?

We have used online Sophos support. However, we haven't used it too much. We haven't had many issues with the solution.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is very simple and straightforward. It is not overly complex. The configuration process is very easy.

We do get setup support and training, which makes the process very simple.

Our appliance is on-premises. However, there is a cloud-based console that connects to the physical device.

The product has its own deployment support that comes with it. If you are a new client, technical support will assist with the setup.

The setup itself is pretty fast. It doesn't take more than one hour. Of course, there is a few tweaks that may take a week or two to set up. Some companies may need additional services configured.

What about the implementation team?

We have local support in Kenya and can get help if we need assistance.

What was our ROI?

We do not specifically look at the ROI.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We do an annual subscription.

The pricing is comparable to others. There is an initial cost for changing a solution, so it is chapter to just renew the subscription rather than jumping to a new solution.

For the most part, the cost is okay. They are a bit on the higher side, and we'd always like it to be a bit lower.

What other advice do I have?

We are using the latest version of the solution, although the hardware might be a bit older.

This is a pretty nice product, and I would recommend it. It doesn't require a lot of effort when it comes to setup and management.

I'd rate the solution nine out of ten.

Simple to deploy, user-friendly, and very reliable
Pros and Cons
  • "It is very easy to use."
  • "It is very easy to use, we found it simple to deploy, and the solution has been stable over the years."
  • "It isn't missing anything."

What is our primary use case?

We use Sophos for handling restrictions and the inspection group. For example, HR and finance sites.

We also use it for implementation with the company portals. When the users need to access any site, Sophos handles the password and the login and all the security devices.

What is most valuable?

It is very easy to use.

We found it simple to deploy.

The solution has been stable over the years.

What needs improvement?

We have all of the features we need. It isn't missing anything.

For how long have I used the solution?

I joined the company for three years. I've used it since I joined the company. However, the company might have used it for longer than that.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution has been stable. It's reliable. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Everyone in the company uses the product. There are about 200 of us on it.

I can't speak to the ability to scale. It's my understanding we haven't really tried.

How are customer service and support?

I've never dealt with technical support directly as I haven't had any issues. Therefore, I can't speak to how helpful or responsive they would be.

How was the initial setup?

The solution is easy to set up. It's not complex at all.

I configure the cyber security and there haven't been any issues so far.

What about the implementation team?

I handled the implementation myself. I did not need the help of any consultants or integrators.

What other advice do I have?

We are customers and end-users.

We might be on version five or six of the solution. I'm not sure of the exact version number.

We have a new project in Morocco and we will need to upgrade and order new equipment. I'll be creating a new order for Sophos soon to get a new version. The configuration will likely be the same.

I'd rate the solution ten out of ten. It's an excellent product.

Good support, stability and efficient for security use cases
Pros and Cons
  • "The dashboard is very good-looking and offers maximum features. If a customer's website has a problem, we can guide them over the phone because they can easily find the specific option on the dashboard. That's why we suggest buying Sophos."
  • "The price is obviously a more sensitive area to focus on."

What is our primary use case?

When we use Sophos products, we haven't encountered any problems. Some attacks happen, but our customers haven't been affected. No one has attempted to hack their data and steal Bitcoin.

What is most valuable?

The dashboard is very good-looking and offers maximum features. If a customer's website has a problem, we can guide them over the phone because they can easily find the specific option on the dashboard. That's why we suggest buying Sophos.

One key feature is the personal security dashboard. Most features are available on the dashboard, making it easy for customers to manage their security. However, it's a complex task, so we can't add too many features currently. So, the dashboard is currently the main focus.

What needs improvement?

The price is obviously a more sensitive area to focus on when selling it.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using it since 2011.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I would rate the stability a ten out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I would rate the scalability a ten out of ten. It is a scalable solution. We have lots of customers using this solution.

We have 6,000 to 7,000 customers across India. And we are using and providing Cisco, Netgear, McAfee, and other products to them.

We often use NETGEAR for layer two configurations because NETGEAR  doesn't have firewall software like Sophos, and we use Sophos for layer three configurations.

How are customer service and support?

The response time is very good. The customer service and support are good.

How was the initial setup?

The setup is good. The deployment time depends. We need to create some policies first. So, it could take half an hour, depending on the complexity. We can then deliver the product to our customers.

What about the implementation team?

We know all the deployment steps and can guide your client over the phone. The customer can then install it themselves, and if they have a dedicated technical team, they can handle it independently.

For example, we need to know what kind of internet connection they are using, such as Broadband, IOL, or something else.

We need to know why they are using a firewall because we have to create policies and define the bandwidth, how much bandwidth they want to use, and what they are trying to protect. So, we need such details for the deployment.

We have 25 employees with different designated roles. And they can provide online support. Mostly engineers. We have different versions of the product.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Overall, the price of Sophos is very good. But I would rate the pricing a nine out of ten, where one is the cheapest and ten is the highest.

There are different licensing models. For example, one customer pays yearly, while another pays every three years.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, I would rate the solution a ten out of ten. I would recommend using the solution. The deployment is easy, and support is very good.

An easy-to-use tool that not only provides protection against different attacks but also delivers good support to users
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature of the solution stems from the fact that it is a very strong product with good support."
  • "Network visibility is an area in the solution with shortcomings where improvements can be made."
