System architecture and requirements are simple to use
Pros and Cons
  • "The keywords menu is better than other MDM. They have an Out of Contact policy, which other MDMs don't have."
  • "They have legacy design architecture, and sometimes the support isn't helpful."

What is our primary use case?

I am a distributor of SOTI in Hong Kong.

This solution is most suitable for government companies.

SOTI is good for medium to large-sized companies. In Hong Kong, we have so many customers that the smallest customer in Hong Kong has about 10 users, and our largest customer has more than 32,000 devices.

One of the customers that we support is in the government sector. They are using Workspace ONE for 8,000 devices.

We mainly give them support on the MDM for Workspace ONE.

What is most valuable?

The keywords menu is better than other MDM. They have an Out of Contact policy, which other MDMs don't have.

The SOTI system architecture and requirements are more simple compared to Workspace ONE.

They have a script engine that's very good for engineer support.

What needs improvement?

They have legacy design architecture, and sometimes the support isn't helpful.

Sometimes the innovative features are very difficult.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have worked with SOTO MobiControl for 13 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I would rate the stability as eight out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

If a customer goes directly to SOTI support, sometimes they can't solve the problem immediately. Usually in Hong Kong, we do the first tier of support for all of our customers.

How was the initial setup?

The deployment process is simple because the legacy interface is easy to understand and easier to use than Workspace ONE. The SOTI Next-Generation UI is just like Workspace ONE, so sometimes it's difficult to use.

SOTI is changing from the classic user interface to a more modern type of user interface, which is more difficult to use.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It's a little bit expensive. The Hong Kong government has a perpetual license for SOTI rather than a subscription.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate this solution as eight out of ten.

My advice is to find the right consultant.

Useful device controls, quick cloud setup, and helpful support
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature of SOTI MobiControl is the feature to control what software is on the equipment that is authorized."
  • "I have used Microsoft Intune but it is more complicated than SOTI MobiControl."
  • "The price of this solution is high when you compare it with Microsoft Intune."

What is our primary use case?

SOTI MobiControl can be deployed on the cloud and on-premise.

The solution is used for mobile equipment. The idea is to supervise them, configure them from a distance, and dispatch software and patch.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature of SOTI MobiControl is the feature to control what software is on the equipment that is authorized.

What needs improvement?

I have used Microsoft Intune but it is more complicated than SOTI MobiControl.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with SOTI MobiControl for approximately eight years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability of SOTI MobiControl with Android is good, but there are some issues with Windows equipment.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

SOTI MobiControl is scalable.

How are customer service and support?

We are certified and we offer good support.

The support from SOTI MobiControl is helpful.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup of the cloud version of SOTI MobiControl is easy and quick. However, the on-premise version can have some challenges.

The cloud version of the solution took us five days to configure the platform and deploy it. The on-premise version can take more time, approximately three to four weeks. However, the time depends on what setup the customer has, such as a proxy and firewall.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The price of this solution is high when you compare it with Microsoft Intune. This is mainly because Microsoft Intune is included with some packages, such as Microsoft Office 365. It makes it difficult to sell SOTI MobiControl because of the pricing against Microsoft Intune.

The solution costs approximately seven dollars a month.

I rate the price of SOTI MobiControl an eight out of ten.

What other advice do I have?

There is maintenance needed for the use of this solution but it is not extensive. You have to be aware of how to maintain it. The solution works with many different types of operating systems and this can cause some issues, but most of the time the issues are fixed by the support.

Some customers purchases this solution thinking it will solve problems they have but it doesn't. For example, the solution can track devices but the solution is not intended for this. The customer will be able to locate the device but then they discover it is not suitable for this purpose.

Our customers pick this solution because we offer good support and are certified.

I rate SOTI MobiControl an eight out of ten.

I recommend this solution to others.

Stable, scalable, and useful for preventing the use of unauthorized software, but needs better pricing policy and implementation for Windows devices
Pros and Cons
  • "All features are useful. It is useful for preventing the use of unauthorized software on corporate-owned devices. It provides an option to lock the devices for unauthorized software. The devices can only be used under the supervision of the device manager."
  • "We are a solution provider, and we recommend the SOTI solution each time we have a request."
  • "The pricing policy of SOTI is not stable. You buy it today at one price, and the following year, it becomes something like 5% or 7% higher. From my point of view, SOTI is a little bit weak in terms of implementation on the new Windows 10 devices, and they have to work on this. It can't compete with Intune and other solutions when it comes to Windows implementation. It almost doesn't work with iOS. It works well with Android."
  • "From my point of view, SOTI is a little bit weak in terms of implementation on the new Windows 10 devices, and they have to work on this."

What is our primary use case?

We are a solution provider, and we provide the SOTI solution for our customers. We have around 40,000 devices deployed on it. Normally, it is deployed on-cloud, but we also have some on-premises implementations.

It is mainly used for supervising devices such as Android and Windows mobile devices. It is used for asset management and configuration management as well as for authorizing the use of specific software in a device.

What is most valuable?

All features are useful. It is useful for preventing the use of unauthorized software on corporate-owned devices. It provides an option to lock the devices and specify authorized or not software. The device configuration is then used under the supervision of the device admin.

What needs improvement?

The pricing policy of SOTI is not stable.

It's work well with iOS and Android.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have five years of experience with this solution.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The platform is stable. There are no issues with the stability of the platform.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is scalable. We are satisfied with its scalability because we can start at 100 devices. I have some customers who have 10 or 15 times more devices over time, and the platform is responding quite well. The service behind is on the cloud, and it is quite good.

How are customer service and technical support?

When you subscribe to enterprise support or high-level support, they respond well.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is easy for us because we have a specialist engineer. Otherwise, it is not so user friendly. You need an experienced engineer and some knowledge to deploy this solution, especially if it is a complex configuration.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Its pricing policy is not stable. The licensing is on a one-yearly, two-yearly, or three-yearly basis. There is no monthly fee.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend this solution. We are a solution provider, and we recommend the SOTI solution each time we have a request. It is a stable product, and there is no real technical issue.

I would rate SOTI MobiControl a seven out of ten.

A simple initial setup with great remote control and good troubleshooting
Pros and Cons
  • "The remote control we have helps us a lot."
  • "The solution helps us streamline our deployments and troubleshooting, saving a lot of time by avoiding downtime."
  • "The solution could use better reporting."
  • "The new dashboard has more steps involved just to get to the information we need."

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use the solution to support all of our mobile devices.

How has it helped my organization?

The solution helps us streamline our deployments and troubleshooting. There is just a lot of time saved from avoiding downtime. The troubleshooting and deployment is a great time-saver as well.

What is most valuable?

The remote control we have helps us a lot.

The solution offers great troubleshooting capabilities. This aspect saves us a lot of time and keeps us from having to instead get products shipped back to us.

The initial setup is pretty straightforward.

What needs improvement?

The look and feel of the dashboard could be improved. I'm used to the old dashboard. The new dashboard has more steps involved just to get to the information we need. They need to streamline it or align it more with the older version which actually worked better.

The solution could use better reporting.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with the solution for a long time. It's probably been about ten to 15 years at this point.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is pretty stable. We haven't had issues with crashes. There aren't bugs or glitches. It's good.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability is really great. If a company needs to expand it, they can do so easily. There shouldn't be any problem at all.

We have about 10,000 users on this product and they vary from customer service to ramp agents to baggage agents. The solution has various use cases, so there's a variety of users on it.

How are customer service and technical support?

Technical support is excellent. They are knowledgeable and responsive. I'd rate them as excellent - a full ten out of ten in terms of the service we've received.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I just came on board and the company was already using the solution. It's the only product I've ever used for these purposes.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is not complex. It's really straightforward.

What other advice do I have?

We have a business partnership with SOTI.

This is a pretty decent product. I'd recommend other organizations to check it out.

On a scale from one to ten, I'd rate the solution at a nine.

Provides an effective mobile device management and has a straightforward setup process
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable features of SOTI MobiControl include location tracking, geofencing, remote device control, and SOTI self-service mobile browsers."
  • "Improving the reporting section would be beneficial for enhancing the product's overall functionality."

What is our primary use case?

We use the product to request location tracking. Customers require the ability to track their devices and monitor activities. Additionally, they often request specific reports. In cases where custom reports are needed, we coordinate with the support team to generate them.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features of SOTI MobiControl include location tracking, geofencing, remote device control, and SOTI self-service mobile browsers.

What needs improvement?

Improving the reporting section would be beneficial for enhancing the product's overall functionality. As the application undergoes continuous development and follows a roadmap, we can anticipate including new features in future releases.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using SOTI MobiControl for three to four months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The product is highly stable. I rate the stability a ten out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It offers high scalability, making it suitable for businesses. It is a user-friendly and excellent product for managing mobile devices.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support team resolves the issues daily and provides continuous support.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup of MobiControl was straightforward. After receiving our initial information, we coordinated with the support team, who promptly set up the cloud-based server. They provided us with login credentials, allowing us to access the console and perform the initial configuration effortlessly.

The deployment typically takes around five to six hours to complete. However, the duration may vary depending on the customer's specific requirements. Our usual deployment process involves collaboration between our sales team and the customer. After receiving the license, we will communicate with the customer to schedule a configuration session. During this session, we work closely with the customer to complete the necessary setup and customization.

I rate the process a ten out of ten.

What other advice do I have?

MobiControl is a fully cloud-based solution. We create policies in the console and enroll devices according to requests and requirements.

SOTI offers enhanced mobile device security by allowing customers to track their devices and providing antivirus protection alongside DB Defender. Additionally, it includes web URL filtering, enabling customization of security measures based on specific requirements.

It is highly effective for mobile device management in the field—the solution functions efficiently.

The remote control feature has significantly impacted support operations for our customers. The in-house IT team utilizes this feature to identify and troubleshoot issues with the devices efficiently.

The location tracking feature has provided numerous benefits for our customers' organizations. With MobiControl, users can track their devices in real-time, ensuring accountability and preventing misuse of company resources.

Integrating SOTI Mobile Control with our customers' existing IT infrastructures and systems is straightforward. No major configurations are required, making the process seamless. MobiControl can easily adapt to any existing system without encountering any issues.

I recommend converting or purchasing non-supporting devices so the company can work with MobiControl. I rate it a ten.

Offers thousands of features, has a straightforward installation and is stable
Pros and Cons
  • "The installation is very straightforward."
  • "Mobicontrol offers hundreds, if not thousands, of features on the same platform, everything is available and on the platform and covers so many possible use cases."
  • "It would be helpful if the product offered more integration and more features around the iOS and macOS platforms."

What is our primary use case?

We can use the solution for everything. We are compliant with everything - whether it's MDM, EMM, EUM, whether it's for managing applications, concepts, access, et cetera. SOTI Mobicontrol has a part of the answer for all of these requirements.

What is most valuable?

Mobicontrol offers hundreds, if not thousands, of features on the same platform. Everything is available and on the platform and covers so many possible use cases.

Mobicontrol is a very large platform for managing devices. It's cross-platform, and therefore you can use it with everything from Android to Windows Mobile, to Linux, to IoT, et cetera. We can manage everything with ease.

There is remote control capability, which is very straightforward and you can access it without any configuration. We have hardware control over the device as if it's in the palm of your hands.

You have different options for application deployments, whether it's directly using a package from the Play Store, or from the App Store.

The installation is very straightforward.

The platform is very user friendly. It's the best user experience there is on the market at this moment. That's my understanding based on the feedback I get from our customers here in the region. We had many customers using other solutions and they switched to SOTI Mobicontrol.

What needs improvement?

There are complexities around networking and how to configure Mobicontrol into a network with the security requirements, et cetera.

SOTI is currently making changes to the platform to simplify it further for an even better user experience.

It would be helpful if the product offered more integration and more features around the iOS and macOS platforms.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been dealing with the solution since 2016. It's been about 4 years at this point. It's been a while.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is very stable. From my side, I haven't heard of clients having any issues. It's reliable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Whether the client chooses a cloud or on-premises deployment model, they can scale it. That is not a problem at all.

Worldwide, the solution has more than 20,000 users.

How are customer service and technical support?

Technical support is worldwide and is available 24/7. It's available in all regions and in different languages. We have also different options, such as standard support or enterprise support with a technical account manager. Each customer can choose the options that best fit their requirements. So far, we've been satisfied with the level of service on offer.

How was the initial setup?

The installation is very straight forward if it's on-premises. Many customers are doing the installation by themselves due to the fact that it is so easy. The complex part is more about networking and how they can configure Mobicontrol in their network with the security requirements and everything. However, if you are talking about the installation itself, it's straightforward.

If we have all the different teams available, for example, for security and infrastructure, we can deploy this solution in one day. It really depends, as in some structures we need a security team just to open a network. It can take days, or hours to confirm and validate this point. It really depends on the customer and its structure. However, if we have everything available, all ports open, we have the infrastructure available for it, we can do this in one day at most.

Usually, there is one person from the SOTI side that can assist.

What about the implementation team?

If a customer would like, they can have an engineer from SOTI assist in the implementation process.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The licensing works on a subscription basis.

What other advice do I have?

I'm a representative of SOTI Mobicontrol in my region. I'm representing the sales engineering departments in the region, in Africa.

We use both cloud and on-premises deployment models.

I would recommend the solution to other organizations.

Overall, I would rate the solution at a nine out of ten.

User-friendly, great support, and the remote control and geo-fencing capabilities are helpful
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable features are remote control and geo-fencing."
  • "Overall, this is a good product and I recommend it."
  • "Adding more features for iOS devices would be an improvement."

What is our primary use case?

We manage approximately 200 devices that are used in inventory management. This includes RF guns, as well as small tablets where you can capture signatures.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features are remote control and geo-fencing.

The interface is user-friendly, once you get used to it.

What needs improvement?

Adding more features for iOS devices would be an improvement.

I found that there's a learning curve to kind of poke around and get used to the dashboard. Otherwise, it is pretty user-friendly.

For how long have I used the solution?

WE have been using SOTI MobiControl for five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We have had some bugs in the time that we have used it, but their support group has been helpful in resolving some of those issues.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have grown over time. Initially, we had maybe 100 licenses, and we have grown to 250 licenses. I think that next year, we'll probably reach 400 licenses.

We have a couple of dozen people who use it.

How are customer service and technical support?

Technical support is great, and we have found them to be helpful.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward. It took three or four months to deploy.

What about the implementation team?

Our deployment was completed by an in-house team.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We have always evaluated other options just to see how other people are using SOTI and MobiControl, as well as to see what's new out there. There is always a question of whether we should stick with it, or should we be looking at something else.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, this is a good product and I recommend it.

I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

Enables us to do auto patch updates and handles a good amount of endpoints
Pros and Cons
  • "We can do auto patch updates using SOTI, and SOTI has been well placed in terms of the number of endpoints it can handle."
  • "In the next release, they should make it easier to migrate."
  • "There is a limitation if you want to migrate from the AirWatch to SOTI."

What is our primary use case?

Our primary use case is to build patch management to use one particular tool. We can do auto patch updates using SOTI. SOTI has been well placed in terms of the number of endpoints it can handle.

What needs improvement?

In terms of the migration from AirWatch to SOTI, we had a specific use case to migrate. If there was already an existing setup on VMware Workspace ONE AirWatch, we had to figure out how to set it up or realign it on SOTI. It is a good feature but still needs to be improved in terms of the number of new devices to which it can reconfigure.

There is a limitation if you want to migrate from the AirWatch to SOTI.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using SOTI MobiControl for a year.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

SOTI is both stable and scalable. We use it for 7,000 iPads.

How are customer service and technical support?

SOTI has good technical support. They have offices with Canada-based companies and offices across different geographies. So their support is spaced out in different time zones.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We will continue to use SOTI because the cost is cheaper than VMware Workspace ONE AirWatch.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend SOTI.

I would rate it an eight out of ten. In the next release, they should make it easier to migrate.
