Acronis Cyber Protect and Microsoft DPM both provide robust backup solutions, with Acronis offering a broader feature set for various platforms. However, Microsoft DPM excels in integration within the Microsoft ecosystem.
Features: Acronis Cyber Protect offers data synchronization, cloud backup support, and universal restore capabilities. Microsoft DPM provides seamless integration with Microsoft environments, supports SQL and Exchange backups, and offers efficient recovery features.
Room for Improvement: Acronis Cyber Protect could improve on system performance during backups, simplifying its setup process, and enhancing storage solution integration. Microsoft DPM is suggested to expand support for non-Microsoft systems, improve reporting features, and enhance its data recovery functions.
Ease of Deployment and Customer Service: Acronis Cyber Protect is versatile with deployment across hybrid, public, and on-premises environments, yet faces challenges with inconsistent customer service. Microsoft DPM benefits organizations using Microsoft services with its on-premises focus and comprehensive support, although it shares similar support inefficiencies with Acronis.
Pricing and ROI: Acronis Cyber Protect is recognized for competitive pricing and substantial ROI with its perpetual licenses, though its pricing model complexity is noted. Microsoft DPM offers cost efficiency, especially for enterprises with Microsoft licenses, making it a favored solution in environments heavily investing in Microsoft's ecosystem.
My customers see value in money and ROI with Acronis Cyber Protect, so they purchase it.
Whenever I have a question, they respond very quickly each time.
I'll give them a nine for how responsive they are in technical support.
We go to our control system OEM for support, including backup, restoration, and cybersecurity protocols.
They provide professional services that are quite good and can meet your needs.
Acronis Cyber Protect is a scalable product.
I would rate it eight on a scale from 1 to 10 for scalability, considering it will be multiple assets.
It ended up being at a point where we actually had to disable some features in order for the client to work through that specific purpose.
The stability of Acronis Cyber Protect is very high.
The product is very stable, rating between eight and nine out of ten.
We are not very comfortable with cloud-based solutions at this time. We are looking for products which are entirely on-premises, so they remain within our control.
It's only after we discovered there was a compatibility issue with the application that the client was running that we actually had to do a lot of log file shipping to Acronis themselves and getting solutions because of other problems.
Having something such as a community for peer-to-peer interaction would be a valuable asset.
The backup should have compression, deduplication, and DR replication.
Microsoft DPM could improve by adding S3 backup to S3 storage capabilities.
I would rate the price as nine out of ten.
The pricing of Microsoft solutions rates in the middle range at five out of ten.
Microsoft licensing is complex, especially for enterprise or data center solutions.
The biggest benefit of Acronis Cyber Protect for my customers is that it is a great asset to protect business data and ensure data is in a secure Vault.
It also encrypts your backups and makes it safe, so it doesn't get affected with viruses.
This is beneficial because any backup package stored in the cloud is not free, and if it shrinks well, it allows users to pay less for cloud storage.
Microsoft DPM impacted my organization positively, and that was definitely possible.
The two-layer backup system is a particularly valuable feature in Microsoft DPM.
One of the most effective features of Microsoft DPM is its integration with the entire Microsoft ecosystem.

Microsoft Data Protection Manager (DPM) is an enterprise backup system that can be used to back up data from a source location to a target secondary location. Microsoft DPM allows you to back up application data from Microsoft servers and workloads, and file data from servers and client computers. You can create full backups, incremental backups, differential backups, and bare-metal backups to completely restore a system. Microsoft DPM can store backup data to disks for short-term storage, to Azure Cloud for both for short-term and long-term storage off-premises, and to tapes for long-term storage, which can then be stored offsite. Backed up files are indexed, which allows you to easily search your recovered data.
Microsoft DPM contributes to your business continuity and disaster recovery strategy by facilitating the backup and recovery of enterprise data, ensuring resources are available and recoverable during planned and unplanned outages. When outages occur and source data is unavailable, you can use DPM to easily restore data to the original source or to an alternate location.

Reviews from Real Users
Microsoft DPM stands out among its competitors for a number of reasons. Two major ones are its robust and flexible backup capabilities and its being easy to manage with one central dashboard.
William M., the head of ICT infrastructure & security at a tech services company, notes, "The automated procedure is quite good for us, as it is able to capture all of the information that we require. The compatibility is very good. We have an IBM AS/400 machine in our office that we're using, and we're able to back it up fine. This is the same for other systems, as well. I think that overall, it is really adaptable, compatible, and scalable."
Mohammed I., a managing director at Adalites, notes, "I would definitely recommend data protection DPM. It has an application backup, a file backup, a system backup and a hypervisor. It works flawlessly, never a problem."
Rodney C. a system analyst at a financial services firm, writes, "The most valuable feature is that DPM has an index so individual files can be searched. This is our primary tool for recovering deleted files or folders. Once we implement a System Center Operations Manager, all of our DPM servers can then be seen on one dashboard."
