Has significantly improved document-driven workflows and reduced processing time across finance and HR functions
Automation Anywhere has evolved significantly and upgraded itself to provide agentic AI and AI-based automation solutions for document automation. The product has matured considerably over time. We can create workflows that can call an API. We can include prompts in particular workflows for ChatGPT-related functions, connecting to an LLM and RAG to perform tasks. For document automation, modern features are available to train documents, ensuring high accuracy and repeatability over time. The system is very easy to use. I recently completed a course in document automation, typically designed for people involved in coding and technical aspects. Though I understand coding comprehensively, I don't do actual coding. The course was very accessible. Currently, extensive coding isn't necessary due to the hybrid model incorporating GenAI aspects, low-code, no-code capabilities, APIs, and numerous pre-built objects in Automation Anywhere. The features include GenAI-driven prompting methods and workflow creation capabilities. In these workflows, we can create decision boxes and call APIs without coding. We simply pull objects, drop them, connect them, and add minimal coding when needed. The most crucial aspect isn't coding but rather sizing the automation and fleshing out the details. Automation Co-pilot takes notes and performs automated analysis. It can extract details from videos, summarize conversations, and provide detailed information. During calls, it identifies instructions and performs tasks such as preparing reports and reconciliation. Automation Anywhere can also connect with Microsoft Co-pilot. Through Co-pilot, real-time operations can be executed, allowing direct interaction between vendors and automation through this component.

Business processes are automated efficiently with a well-designed interface
There is room for improvement in integrations and customizations for AgilePoint and other low-code, no-code solutions. Additionally, the marketing of such products should be more honest. They often claim to solve all process automation needs, but they only handle problems of certain complexity. AgilePoint cannot handle highly complex processes like ERPs.

Automated remittance workflows have boosted speed and accuracy but still need geo-tagging improvements
Remittance is a crucial part of my integral operation, so any disruption would majorly impact our clients. After switching to Appian, we never faced any disruption as it is reliable and we can generate data at any point in time, quite faster than other tools in my personal opinion. Regulators can ask for data from us at any time, and with Appian, we download data from our Appian tools to share it with them whenever they ask. I would share a real-life example: a customer's transaction processed more than a year ago. Suddenly the customer came back asking for all the details. In our previous tool, it was quite difficult to generate transaction details from over a year ago; however, while using Appian, we can pull up data using different key search fields, such as a customer's cell phone number, remittance tracking number, or MT103 reference number. We shared it with the customer instantly, and the customer was surprised we could provide all the details in such a short time. It added reputational value for our organization, thanks to Appian. You have pointed out two major things: time-saving and reduction of error, which are key points while processing remittance. Previously, while using another tool, it was quite time-consuming to process remittance, but after switching to Appian, it can extract data from MT103, eliminating the need for manual data entry. The process has become fully automated. Previously we could process only five to ten transactions within an hour, but now, after switching to Appian, we can process about 100 transactions in an hour, making it 10 times faster. In terms of error detection, since Appian extracts data from MT103, the extraction rate is quite good, and the error rate is negligible, lower than 0.001%. We can share accurate, error-free data with the regulator, which is essential for us. Appian benefits us significantly. After receiving an MT103, we check what the remitter is, the amount, if it is under threshold for processing, and if it is from a high-priority remitter or client. Since Appian extracts data from MT103 messages and identifies top-level clients from the database, it can notify us to process their transactions with priority. Due to automated data extraction, there are fewer instances of error. In our previous tool, we reported regulatory data to the central bank manually and often received complaints about invalid purpose codes due to manual data entry. Appian handles this automatically, and after switching, our error rate has dropped significantly, resulting in positive feedback from the Central Bank of Bangladesh regarding our reduced error rates. This has greatly enhanced our organization's reputation. Appian is fully on-premises, and we have our own system.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Automation Anywhere has a Bot Store. E.g., you can download the bot from the Bot Store and utilize it's data extraction capabilities. You can extract unstructured data through IQ Bot. Getting unstructured data is not difficult. I once obtained an 84 page PDF file using an IQ Bot. This was just the trial version, and it was really good. I was able to get all the circuit IDs and properties that wanted in a simple CSV format. I had not seen anything like this before. When compared to other platforms, such as UiPath, they don't have these capabilities right now. They have activities like PDF extraction, but that's not good enough."
"Anywhere contributed to increased efficiency, reduced manual efforts, and notable time savings across various processes."
"It helps in improving employee productivity, morale, and retention, as automation removes the tedious parts of work and frees up often stretched-thin employees for more meaningful and creative work."
"If you are looking for a fast solution using minimal resources not requiring an advanced programming skill set this is your product."
"The Automation Copilot is helpful. It will automatically give you all the solutions your bot requires. It's like a dictionary."
"With automation, you can reduce that effort to half an hour or an hour, so it will improve your efficiency and save you a lot of time, so you can improve your time in other work."
"The immediate impact is administrative tasks which were traditionally done manually are now being done by robots. This reduces the workload for people."
"All RPA tools used in the market have similar features and aspects that can be developed, however, specifically for Automation Anywhere, the ready-to-use templates which can be used as plug and play are a great feature."
"AgilePoint has improved our organization by making form implementation easier and to plan for future growth."
"Anytime companies need any solution with workflow, they can base it on AgilePoint, because AgilePoint allows companies to design and implement workflows very fast using the system's interface."
"AgilePoint's automation is excellent in managing different user roles and handling data associated with a particular instance of the workflow."
"AgilePoint's most valuable feature is process management."
"I like the design and the integration capacity, and it's also easy to use."
"The initial setup of AgilePoint was very easy."
"The solution's workflows are its most useful feature."
"The initial setup was seamless. We didn't run into any hardships at all."
"Where Appian stood out was the full stack integration."
"Customer Service: Excellent. Smaller companies like Appian tend to value customer service as a competitive advantage."
"With Appian's low code rapid development model, the ROI can be huge, while the break-even point should be accelerated tremendously."
"Process Modeling enables creation of business process workflows. You can create complex business workflows in a visual manner, and it is also easy to debug/monitor."
"Technical support is helpful."
"Process culture is making noise inside the organization because now, everybody knows that their time is being monitored."
"Appian is a very low code platform. It's very easy to learn and use."

Cons

"When comparing the code under version checks, although there is a change done, it doesn't say so because the change is done at the variable level and not in the line of code."
"I feel the tool has to provide deeper insights for debugging issues, considering both internal and external factors."
"It has been challenging integrating Automation Anywhere with other solutions, due to all of the controls, as we are a bank."
"Automation Anywhere says that you can use this tool for any type of application, but there are some for which it is not compatible."
"MetaBots and Control Room may have some room for improvement."
"We encountered issues during the upgrade of the framework. We were using the older framework of version 10.3.5. When we were upgrading, we were having a few issues in terms of getting the proper hardware and software prerequisites. For some things, like getting the controls of some of the application's tools, we were getting Automation Anywhere's help."
"We'd like to see more AI features."
"Scalability has been a pain point; the scalability is there, but there are ongoing operational issues with it."
"Technical support is very slow to respond and they need to be quicker in getting back to clients when problems arise."
"Some issues with AgilePoint's design, AI and UX are some of the major problems we deal with when handling our company's business models or processes."
"It could be more flexible, but it's already a good solution for the designer."
"The solution should be able to support Docker. This would help make scalability easier."
"While the platform is good and it has a lot of options, I would like to see more alternative features in future versions such as connectors to IDM. Currently, they have only ADFS and Okta."
"They should add more information about functionality."
"Integrations and customizations should be improved in AgilePoint and other low-code solutions."
"There should be more flexibility for the developers to choose the look and feel of the UI. They should have a better ability to design their widgets and customize them with different colors, shapes, and sizes. That is a limitation that could be improved upon."
"It would be useful if they could create an academy or forum in the future to help active users answer questions they have about the solution."
"A point of improvement would be the SAIL forms. The built-in tool used to generate forms does not have debugging support (to view local variables as they change on live preview, and step-by-step valuation) which is a big drawback for form development. Moreover, the script language used to build SAIL forms does not support inheritance or lambda expressions (functions as arguments of other functions), which makes the code base more verbose."
"I wouldn't say their response time is long, but it could be quicker."
"The initial setup is fine once you get your head around it, but there is a steep learning curve."
"If you have a lot of cases, 150,000 for example, the stability will not be good because the memory required is so heavy that the RAM that you need is backed in."
"Customer service is poor, very helpful at times and willing to go above and beyond, but very expensive, so overall poor."
"The UI of the application has been completely overhauled within the past couple years, but the tools for developing the new interface have not yet been updated."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is one of the most affordable RPA solutions, and as for licensing, they offer a community edition that greatly helps anyone who aspires to learn about the product before buying the enterprise solution."
"My understanding is that the license cost of Automation Anywhere is more reasonable than UiPath and Blue Prism."
"On average, a bot runner in Automation Anywhere can cost $5,000, while in Microsoft Power Automate, you can get most of the same functionality for $100."
"The licensing cost is approximately $4,000 USD, which is a seed license."
"The pricing is a bit higher."
"Automation Anywhere is costlier than the general competition. That is aligned with the share of the market it has."
"We have saved time and money using this solution."
"Roughly, as of today, it is around $250,000 annually."
"It is more cost-effective than local tools."
"I believe the pricing has changed recently. We had purchased one license per server, and it was about $2,000. It was a one-time payment. It's possible that they have recently implemented a new cost structure and now have yearly subscriptions."
"Price-wise, AgilePoint is a cheap tool and a standard application for running analytics in an IT environment."
"I think the price is reasonable."
"If you're doing an enterprise-wide digital transformation, Appian is worthwhile, but not for just one or two use cases because the license costs are higher."
"The license is not very cheap. It's on the expensive side."
"It is fully managed, and I don't believe there are any additional expenses."
"We will have to have a dialogue or negotiate a price for future use. To start with, it is a reasonable price. As we go ahead, we will have to make sure the costs are inline with our expectations as we grow our user base and workloads."
"The cost is a bit higher than other low-code competitors, OutSystems and Mendix. The price needs to be more competitive."
"The solution offers a monthly subscription model. That's what we use. I recall it being about $90 a month. They do have different tiers."
"Appian is very flexible in their pricing. In general, Appian's pricing is much, much lower when compared to competition like Pega or other products. Appian also has a flexible licensing model across geographies. Pega usually goes with a single licensing cost—which is a US-based cost—for all global customers, and it's costly. Whereas Appian has a different regional licensing cost model and it can be cheaper, depending on geography. So Appian's licensing is very flexible, and cheaper when compared to other competition."
"The cost depends on the number of users, although I recommend taking an unlimited license."
