Managed cloud services have helped accelerate experiments with flexible configuration options
Sometimes the costs associated with spinning up a service, especially managed services, have implications. For example, if I create a Glue job, that will create S3 buckets and other resources that have cost implications, but once I clean up a Glue job, it does not delete the other accessory resources. Sometimes, I have to go hunting for what resources Amazon AWS might have provisioned and how it is costing behind the scenes. It can be complex depending on your level of expertise. It is not as easy to get started, especially when it comes to secure practices. Amazon AWS is more hands-on than other platforms.

They deployed and maintained our cloud infrastructure.
There should be the improved ability to speak directly to resources over the phone, rather than just through tickets and emails. Logicworks provides DevOps-as-a-Service functionality and is not really a software solution. My only issue with them is that it is difficult to talk to anyone live, as they manage all their service tickets through emails or their ticket portal. Perhaps, an enhancement that could be a button on the portal which could connect you via a web conference with the resource assigned to the ticket, would be helpful.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Almost everything is good; it is a whole ecosystem that is very well-built and logical, with small building blocks that can be used in the right way to build a much bigger ecosystem that is robust, secure, and scalable."
"The compute and the elasticness of the compute is really great, because whenever there's a load, it automatically adds the servers and then reduces the servers based on the configuration, which is really wonderful, more cost-effective, and has been really good for us."
"It has good reporting and documentation."
"The technical support of AWS is very good; when I need something, they reach out to me fast."
"One of the features offered is scalability on demand."
"It is very easy to set up. It is also easy to use. It has a lot of services and integrations. We've been able to integrate whatever we need until now."
"Overall, this is the best IaaS for hosting the website and the database."
"I like ETL, the EC2 platform, and Route 53. These features are a great complement to the basic infrastructure of any company. The AWS platform has many features, but the fundamental cloud infrastructure is the most important."
"The stable environments, outsourcing of IT allowing us to keep very light headcount for the DevOps are the most valuable features of this solution."

Cons

"The security right now needs improvement. It's not bad, per se. It's just that there's always room for improvement in security."
"As far as the automation is concerned, the backups should be scaled."
"What is hard with the public cloud service like AWS, is ensuring you maintain a good budget."
"The IEM (Infrastructure Event Management) appears to be complicated, specifically cross-account resource permissions."
"The features that should be improved are that there should be better clarity on their invoicing."
"We would appreciate it if the product was cheaper."
"The price could be better."
"There is no control of downtime."
"My only issue with them is that it is difficult to talk to anyone live, as they manage all their service tickets through emails or their ticket portal."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"If you can plan capacity for one or three years, you can use the upfront payment option which allows you to save up to 50%."
"AWS is expensive and the cost should be reduced."
"As a startup business, it's very well priced, but if a number of transactions go up, clients have voiced that they are in a situation and feel a type of pressure and desire to move out of AWS."
"For the initial 12 months, the solution is reasonably priced. On enterprise license contracts where you negotiate, have been reasonable too."
"When it comes to professional certification in AWS, I implore others to study hard before your exams because $300 is a painful waste of money if you fail."
"The tool is expensive."
"In comparison to Google Cloud Platform and Microsoft Azure, the database offered by Amazon AWS is relatively expensive. However, the database also offers rich features."
"Be careful with your consumption, especially when you are testing things. Costs can creep up on you relatively fast, without even noticing."
