A highly stable tool that needs to improve its security
The most valuable features of the solution stem from the fact that the tool provides security features, and AWS serves as a certificate of trust for its uses. The tool is easy to set up, and it secures your internet connection, so your IP address and email are not exposed over the internet since the VPN has the ability to mask the IP addresses of users after users get an Amazon ID to use for internet browsing.

User management has simplified internal VPN access and now provides clear visibility and control
I do not use any role defining features because it is a really small organization, so it wasn't required, but it is there if needed. I have seen OpenVPN Access Server integrations such as LDAP, RADIUS, PAM, and SAML, but again, due to the size of the company, it wasn't necessary and we didn't have it inside the company. However, it was nice that it is already embedded inside. We haven't used much in terms of integrations with OpenVPN Access Server, so it's hard to say. We only used basic features there. My advice for others looking to implement OpenVPN Access Server is that it is at least worth trying if you need a fast and easy implementation solution without technical overhead and you just need VPN access, which is supported by all operating systems and mobile operating system vendors. It is definitely worth a try. OpenVPN Access Server was purchased directly from the website, not on the AWS marketplace or through a partner purchase. I would rate this product an overall eight out of ten.

"Two-factor authentication allows us to not force frequent password changes."
"The best features OpenVPN Access Server offers is whitelisting members in my company who have joined recently; it is really easy to use, and it is really easy to set up OpenVPN Access Server as an internal app."
"Its most valuable feature is that it is open source."
"The core VPN functionality is reliable and relatively easy to administer once it is deployed."
"It can securely do remote product updates... just as if it was on our LAN."

"There sometimes is an incompatibility between some VPNs."
"If someone's key is not working, or if we had to remove someone's permission from it, or maybe an employee left the company and we had to take their key out, that seemed a little bit more complicated than it had to be."
"It could be faster. It could also be more stable."
"I would like to see a simpler interface, so that we can make the connection between the local network using the LAN IP."
"If there was a Graphical User Interface to help streamline the configuration, I believe OpenVPN would probably venture more into the non-geek realm as it were."
"The solution can be more compatible with different operating systems."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The tool is not completely available for free, especially if you want to use certain features for which the cost is very minimal."

I think there is a good evaluation method available for OpenVPN, so you can just evaluate if it meets your needs. Then go forward with the right licensing policy."
