Pega is a low-code platform that enables organizations to build, automate, and optimize business processes and customer experiences through AI-powered decisioning and workflow automation.
Here are the key areas where Pega Platform could be improved: 1. User Interface (UI) & User Experience (UX) Customization Limitations: The UI layer is tightly coupled with the platform, limiting flexibility for custom front-end development. Constellation Architecture: While it improves consistency, it restricts advanced UI customizations compared to older section-based designs. Learning Curve: Non-technical users find the UI unintuitive despite the low-code promise. 2. Integration & Extensibility Limited Out-of-the-Box Integrations: Users report challenges integrating with non-relational databases and legacy systems. Robotics Integration: Pega RPA (formerly OpenSpan) is not seamlessly integrated with BPM, creating silos in automation. 3. AI & Decisioning AI Capabilities Need Maturity: Users expect more advanced, native AI features without relying on external tools. CDH & Decision Hub: While powerful, these components require deep expertise to configure effectively. 4. Cost & Licensing High Licensing Costs: Pega is often seen as expensive, especially for small and mid-sized enterprises. Lack of Flexible Pricing Models: Calls for subscription-based or usage-based pricing to improve accessibility. 5. Performance & Scalability Scalability Concerns: Some users report performance degradation with large user bases or complex workflows. Upgrade Complexity: Platform upgrades can be time-consuming and disruptive if not planned well. 6. Documentation & Community Support Insufficient Learning Resources: Especially for advanced features, documentation is limited and community support is not as strong as competitors. Talent Availability: Finding skilled Pega professionals remains a challenge in many regions. 7. Low-Code/No-Code Experience Not Fully No-Code: Despite branding, some tasks still require technical intervention, and the drag-and-drop interface can be restrictive 2. Conflict Management: Simultaneous development by multiple users can lead to rule conflicts.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"CA Process Automation manager is a very powerful production tool."
"It is easy to debug and troubleshoot."
"We took our server provisioning process from about 30 days to about 4 days on the first iteration of implementation."
"It’s a great product, extremely versatile but takes a certain skillset to use and implementation of automation can be time consuming when done properly."
"This tool is used in my organization for automating IT infrastructure related incidents or service requests."
"For our use it really does very well; it provides us exactly what we need, and it runs with low-resource utilization and moves quickly."
"If you’re planning or looking for an application able to create process automation, stop looking."
"They were good, they helped us a lot from the beginning, from installation through the whole process, and not just their support, but also their professional services are top notch."
"It is easy to use, easy to understand, easy to implement and easy to enhance and we can do it as a Cloud. Also it is very user friendly."
"The platform as a whole is very rich - you can do a lot of things with it with minimum time and cost."
"It is a stable solution...It is a scalable solution."
"The ability to define processes, build reports, and get insights or analytics on data is most valuable. It is a powerful platform."
"What I found most valuable in PegaRULES is that it allows you to quickly make changes to an existing application. It's pretty easy to do any modification in the tool, which you cannot do in legacy solutions. For example, it takes a lot of time to do it in Java or in .NET. I have worked with both legacy technologies in the past, so that I can tell the difference."
"PegaRules is a very powerful rule engine."
"The marketing automation is very good."
"Although the solution might be too big for our purposes, as of now we are continuing with Pega because we don't know of any such tools which have the scalability, as well as the ease of use that this solution provides."

Cons

"CA offers minimal public information pertaining to the performance drain the usage of some objects and operators introduce to processing."
"OCR capability should be added as a feature."
"Make some of the features more open source that way developers can have more flexibility."
"Although it's drag-and-drop, there's a little bit of a learning curve to use it correctly."
"Somehow the product group within CA left the product dry from some regular expression functionality."
"Somehow the product group within CA left the product dry from some regular expression functionality."
"Better reporting, because we have to true up our licenses every three months because we license on running concurrent processes, so we have to provide a report to CA every three months using their tool -- which never works."
"The solution engine is in Java. Regardless of developments, the solution will always be limited to what Java offers."
"From a technical point of view, it would be helpful to have some advanced analytics to help with configuration."
"Reporting is not so clear and not so great. We really struggle to get the right reporting. When we need reporting based on the content of the tickets, we are not able to get it. The MIS reporting is not great. That's one of the reasons why we are switching to ServiceNow. Its compatibility with the higher versions of Internet Explorer should be improved. It really works well in Mozilla Firefox or any other browser, but when it comes to Microsoft Edge or Internet Explorer, sometimes, the layout gets disturbed. The positioning of the buttons changes, and there is some distortion in the layout. I am not sure whether it is our configuration problem or Pega's, but when it is working in Mozilla Firefox, it should also work in Microsoft Edge or Internet Explorer."
"PEGA claims that they provide a LOW-CODE-PLATFORM which is easy to use, even for citizen developers, but if you really want to use all the features of this platform, you definitely need a lot of experience and a lot of training."
"Pega says BPM is low-code/no-code, but that's not true - you need intervention as you can't design the application without some knowledge about it."
"There are several areas for improvement with this product. The performance of the application is very slow, the UI needs improvement, and the architecture needs to be simplified."
"The way the IDE works with the chatbox and the taxonomy imports could be a little smoother."
"Pega's technical support could be better."
"Pega Platform has a good reputation with its move into Pega GenAI, but there are times it slows down the systems when I have used the personal editions."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"There are a lot of automation savings from any process which is repeatable."
"It has provided ROI by auto resolving incidents or requests in the ITSM queue, improved MTTR and SLA adherence, and added value to the delivery of services and the customer experience."
"The price of this solution, including installation and configuration, is comparable to competing vendors."
"The price could be lower."
"We mostly have a yearly license."
"Licensing is expensive. You need to wisely select between per user and per case."
"Pricing is good."
"The costing model for Pega BPM is different. One is a license that you can pay yearly. Another licensing model for Pega BPM is based on the number of cases you create in production in a year. Costing based on use cases is also available for Pega BPM. I don't have information on its exact pricing or costs, though."
"Pega is expensive."
"They're very cagey in giving out prices, and it is very difficult to find out the real price any organization is going to get. It is almost never their list price, if you can find it, and there are a lot of factors that go into the whole pricing."
