Threat intelligence with fast attack detection enables comprehensive email protection
In some cases, detection is missed, leading to false positives where genuine emails are flagged as spam. This could result in users not opening genuine emails. We have highlighted this to Cisco because sometimes phishing or marketing campaigns, which are genuine, are incorrectly flagged as spam. The solution should better analyze the actual content rather than only focusing on the email header or origin.

Helpful support, and useful dashboards
They offer a feature called SmartLink neutralization. I have tried it before. It seemed to work most of the time; however, I had a few users for whom it just wouldn't work. Whenever they click on a link, it stays on the MetaDefender page, saying that it's scanning it and never moves forward. I haven't tried it in a while since then. Since I can't turn it off on a per-user basis, I had to turn it off globally. I have certain exceptions for not doing the sanitization, and how to set those up is not intuitive. It would be useful if there were a better way of doing that. Using digital certificates is hard. It would be better if it used Windows Servers' built-in certificate management.

"There are a lot of filters for scam emails and things like that work out of the box. You can also use the antivirus features. I like its features."
"The solution is very configurable. It has enabled us to configure some specific filters to stop emails that general configurations didn't stop. It's a powerful solution. It can analyze a lot of emails simultaneously, with no problems of capacity or system load."
"Because we scan products, and there is a lot of critical data, security is very important in these cases."
"The security features are valuable."
"The malicious URL scanning, as well as the anti-malware features, have been really useful for us in our environment."
"The most valuable features are Advanced Malware Protection, URL filtering, and of course Reputation Filtering."
"The sanitization is very good."
"The most valuable feature of MetaDefender Email Security is the CDR. Customers purchase this solution specifically for data communication, as the other features can be obtained through other technologies that most customers already possess. Therefore, data communication serves as the foundation for the platform."
"The most valuable feature is called summary reconstruction which is used to deliver encrypted files to users."

Cons

"The primary areas for improvement are the pricing and the complexity of deployment."
"Scalability has certain shortcomings and needs to be improved because there are service providers who provide better scalability.v"
"The hardware is not up to the mark. Two to three times a year we have complete downtime."
"There are some concerns in the way the architecture is set up, making it an area where improvements are required."
"I would like more functionality and how to use it for Level 2 type staff. The biggest issue is it needs to be easier to use and navigate."

"We would like to see more options for the customization of content filters."
"The user interface is a bit complex."
"They offer a feature called SmartLink neutralization. I have tried it before. It seemed to work most of the time; however, I had a few users for whom it just wouldn't work. Whenever they click on a link, it stays on the MetaDefender page, saying that it's scanning it and never moves forward."
"Although the number of AV engines is good, it could be better."
"The DLP should be upgraded and has room for improvement."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is not that costly. We pay for the solution through a contractor and pay an annual fee."
"Cisco Secure Email is expensive, but we get what we pay for."
"I would rate the pricing a ten out of ten, where one is cheap, and ten is expensive."
"There are additional fees for adding features."
"It is an expensive product. I rate its pricing an eight or nine."
"Compared to Cisco's on-prem service, the cost is the same, but you don't have to pay for the hardware and you don't have to maintain the system, as far as upgrades and hardware failures are concerned. It is cheaper to operate on their cloud service than it is to operate with their on-prem service."
"Cisco Secure Email is more expensive than other products. I rate it a five out of ten. There are no additional costs. You only need to pay the subscription amounts."
"At times, we feel the pricing is a bit too high, but then, there is also room for discounts. We enjoy a lot of discounts, and that is why we are still with them. There are no costs in addition to the standard licensing fees."
"According to our customers, the price of MetaDefender is high and it continues to increase by almost 15 percent each year."
