Unified monitoring has improved event handling but needs stronger AI automation and modern dashboards
OpenText AI Operations Management could benefit from a fully integrated AI system, which we call AIOps. A fully integrated AI operations system would be valuable in the future. Additionally, the UI experience could be more comfortable. We are not using predictive features in OpenText AI Operations Management such as anomaly detection. In the future, we may be able to operate with our customer, but we need to decide this collectively. You need to see the big picture and understand what the customer's pain points are to find the right tuning. Normally, predictive features can be more useful, but this is an end-to-end solution that needs to be customized. You need to understand the exact customer needs. The predictive analytics feature is very close to being integrated, but it is not fully integrated at this time.

Automation has improved alerts and file handling but script-based setup still needs simplification
OPS_MVS Automation Intelligence is the automation tool I use. I think OPS_MVS Automation Intelligence is good for creating complex rules because it's coding, but it takes time to learn how to use it. OPS_MVS Automation Intelligence works well if you know the syntax very well and you have experience in creating scripts or REXX syntax; it would be very good and is a good tool, but it takes time to learn, so that is for experienced staff to work with. I would rate the product a six from one to ten. I cannot think of any additional features in the next release of OPS_MVS Automation Intelligence.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The implementation of Operation Manager made it possible to centralize the events of several supervision tools such as SiteScope, Network Node Manager or Nagios, and all the enrichment part allowed to reduce the processing time of support tickets because all the information was already present in the alarm."
"Once it is in there, it's extremely robust."
"We have worked now almost two years with OpsBridge and it is a very stable system."
"In Micro Focus OBM, everything was controlled at the node level and now everything can be controlled at the console level."
"The integration with the ticketing tool makes sure that there is a record for every issue."
"It's very scalable and it does seem capable of accepting the volume."
"We ended up with HPE because there we saw how we would develop this level automation that we're heading for, without the amount of work getting just ridiculous."
"We haven't faced any stability issues. There hasn't been any crashes or glitches."
"It's very secure, because it's a legacy application."
"The technical support is top notch; they have always been right there for us whenever we were needed, including the offer to be available on weekends during a recent upgrade if needed, and they are friendly, professional, and knowledgeable."
"OPS/REXX is valuable because it allows us almost unlimited flexibility in automating our system."
"We have eliminated human error in the startup of one of our most critical applications, thereby reducing the risk of unwanted downtime."
"For what it was produced for, it's an excellent product; it's done everything that we wanted to do with the product and more, which has been a really big help for us."
"It allows us to respond faster to issues. If there are issues that come out, we're able to capture a message and alert somebody about it."
"The performance of it is beyond exceptional. It is probably one of the best products that I have ever worked with. It is easy to use, comprehensive, and can perform almost any task you need it to."
"If something breaks and it goes down when it's not supposed to, automation brings it right back up."

Cons

"The UI could be better. The ease of use, deployment, upgrades, and licensing could be better."
"Installing and upgrading the HPOM and Operations Agent software is not always easy and the process can be quite fragile. Once it is running, it is very quick and stable, but an upgrade can quite easily break something or terminate unexpectedly."
"The stability isn't so great."
"Even though they said it was out for over a year, it was not a product ready for release."
"The product might currently have a lot of new features, however, I don't have information about these new features, so it's possible it may require updates in that area."
"I think it could be improved with regard to response time, and getting the proper resources."
"There are a couple of areas of improvement: Performance needs to increase; and Better correlation from the box rules."
"At times, there are performance and configuration issues."
"Scalability is zero. It cannot be scaled because of its age."
"The interfaces to USS, CA UIM could be better."
"The mainframe TSO side still displays green screens."
"The interfaces to USS, CA UIM could be better. CA Common Services interfaces - namely Zdata Mover, Zmessage Service, Zdatacolletcor - are poorly documented."
"It needs to have more compatibility/interfaces to other vendors’ products."
"I think some of their built-in functions are short on functionality."
"SSM - when OPSMVS is started, there is a choice of either assuming all microhooks are up or all are down and working from there. It would be better if there was a feature that could discover the true state of every microhook."
"Performing a stop/restart of OPS/MVS could be a little smoother. Without special coding, some undesired tasks will be started and some necessary tasks will be stopped if we have to bounce OPS/MVS during the day."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"As OpsBridge is a suite of products bundled together, you may find yourself paying for software functionality that you don't actually use, e.g. Real User Monitor (RUM)."
"The cost is very high."
"It is competitive."
"The licensing model for Micro Focus Operations Bridge is unit-based so it can be one device or ten devices depending on your situation or model. Cost-wise, it's much more if you have more devices and features such as infrastructure monitoring, analytic dashboard, and business dashboard in your model."
"Pricing is very flexible and depends on the modules selected as per the requirement."
"Setup costs can be high depending on the partner, but it is worth it."
"The licensing cost for this solution is approximately $1,000 USD."
