Drill-down monitoring shows us the entire transaction chain, from the front end to back end. It needs HTML5 interface.
I want to see a new interface that contains HTML5 features. The current version of Foglight (on-premise edition) is so fusty in comparison with leaders of Gartner APM Quadrant - i.e. Appdynamics, NewRelic, Dynatrace. If you try to compare SaaS and on-premise Foglight versions you can see differences in UI-design. It's my subjective experiences, but SaaS version looks more modern. Hope this helps

Real-time monitoring has improved our banking API performance and supports detailed business transaction analysis
The real-time monitoring is what we can see for anything that is needed in terms of CPU, memory, or the connections or the sessions related. It's real-time monitoring of performance of each of the components, which is what we need and use all the time. It's highly effective, I would say. Infrastructure visibility, transaction monitoring, to check the actual user experience in terms of the response time, MRT and all those things. We do the component monitoring like the API performance and the connections and all those things, but we also do the business process monitoring and business transaction monitoring.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Foglight has been our go to monitoring tool for several years in the DB2 and Oracle space."
"FxV is valuable as we can playback the session."
"Our ROI has been great it has saved us many times to resolve issues before customers started complaining."
"Sometimes we can solve problems before they occur."
"The stability we have as a result of using it made up for the cost of the product within a month."
"This level of viewable monitoring had many benefits such as alerting, scalability, reporting and service dashboard we could promote."
"Having standard monitoring features and a central repository saves us a lot of time and reduces risk of incidents."
"Real time database monitoring and alerting are valuable."
"The solution's most valuable feature is the response time from the end-to-end server."
"AppDynamics includes a service application map of the call load, response, environment health index, and transactions that are dynamically rated on one easy-to-use page."
"The most valuable feature is the one that enables you to have visibility into the end-users journey."
"The main thing is that you can use the tool to visually see the transactions happening; figure out the bottlenecks quickly; and the ability to drill down from a high level and go down to the details and figure out where bottlenecks are."
"It gives us good insight into our end-to-end business transactions."
"The features of Splunk AppDynamics that I appreciate most are the business processes, which benefit my organization by providing a bigger picture, not only of their own systems, however, how it influences other parts of the environment and how we are being influenced by other parts."
"Since we have implemented this solution, it is going smooth and we are getting positive feedback from customers, consultants and everybody else."
"The most valuable feature of AppDynamics is its ability to track the transactions between different applications."

Cons

"In an older version of Foglight, we were not able to get any of our custom agents to work properly so that feature was not as much use as we had initially hoped and haven't tried using since."
"We have not realized a good ROI on the product due to the fact that we were not able to monitor our core application which runs on Webmethods."
"The “cartridge” concept for every little thing is a bit of a bother to implement."
"Stability was always an issue in large environments."
"When we first turned on Foglight for the first time, it was like a fire hose."
"The price is expensive for us."
"I want to see mobile access application in the next release."
"Complicated setup and maintenance."
"The integration with cloud services is still pending with AppDynamics. We would like the product to be serverless."
"Product-wise, everything is good, but the main concern is the extensions and their documentation, particularly for the installation of Azure app services."
"It's very complex regarding pricing, setup costs, and licensing of Splunk AppDynamics."
"Customer support takes time. Whenever we face any issues, we have to open the vendor case and then there will be back and forth happening."
"The integration part in AppDynamics with other systems is an area with a little difficulty, especially when it comes to the configuration area. The integration of AppDynamics with other products takes a lot of time."
"I’d like to see something more towards a merger between the dev and the production."
"I would think Splunk AppDynamics could do a better job in creating out-of-box dashboards for Kubernetes-based cloud applications."
"The application monitoring needs improvement. It needs to be easier for someone who isn't a proficient developer."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price is expensive for us."
"I recall it being a very expensive solution relative to function and stability."
"Since the product split – the licensing is a bit more complex."
"Foglight can be expensive I would go with the pricing at a three year deal."
"Take into consideration what you get for specific pricing models and how much it costs to add on things you may need later."
"It would be better if there were more solutions incorporated into the base price. "
"AppDynamics is one of the most expensive solutions on the market."
"The solution has a high cost."
"It is a more expensive APM among the competitors, which is fine because it also does a lot more on the auto-detection and the AI side... It is not a cheap product. None of them are. The price is fair, but I could use it on more projects if they had a lower price."
"For those who appreciate the value and had issues with the visibility of the performance of their applications, then the pricing is good. For somebody who does not need it, it can be pricey, but overall, it is worth the money which it costs."
"Pricing is based on the size of the deployment."
"One of the main downsides to the solution is its cost."
