Integrated security tools have supported critical infrastructure and improved network performance
Regarding Secureworks Taegis VDR Vulnerability Management, I do not have all these shortcuts in my head. Perhaps I have to ask my technicians, but we are in full stress because we have to change this entire firewall equipment, also the entire access points, because of the end of life. We also have the full product in for XDR and extensions. We are also part of the webinars from Sophos. It would be better if there were also some important webinars in German. Everything needs improvement, because also the wireless, also RED box and so on. The handling was much easier on the old equipment than on the new XGS. I think there should also be a little more automatic for SD-WAN routing and so on. Because we have to learn some things from the basic completely new because it is different than Sophos UTM, the XGS. The features that could be improved about Sophos UTM include the new features we have in XGS with a simpler interface. For example, in Sophos UTM, we could define IP hosts and use this IP host. We did not have to insert on every, for example, for wide area networks, we had to put the IP addresses from the other side by hand. In Sophos UTM, we could define it under definitions and then use this IP host where we needed it. In the new XGS, if there is a change in the IP address, we have to do it on all, for example, site-to-site VPN tunnels and so on. We have much more work and it is not so easy because we have to check all the definitions. It is also, for example, some of the male technicians like me, we have a biology handicap. For example, male technicians in Europe also have a red-green problem. So we use these light colors on the interface. In some cases, it is not easy to see the, for example, letters or numbers because of the contrast.

I use it mostly for VPN and for some firewall solutions When considering my main use case with VPN, I can say that I got the Zyxel Unified Security Gateway, and it works fine. However, we are thinking about using a different solution based on open source because Zyxel Unified Security Gateway…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Sophos UTM provides security for our network here and access through a VPN connection for our remote users. It also offers the flexibility to create different tools for accessibility."
"We see that the performance will increase with the new XGS."
"We give customers a device that can handle next-gen security threats, which is way better than a typical router."
"Sophos UTM's valuable features include the cost, which is very competitive when compared with other vendors, balanced with the features that it delivers."
"Our company trusts Sophos without even seeing it, as it provides us comfortability while allowing for flexibility."
"The UTM product has definitely improved the way our organization functions."
"Other than that, Sophos offers a full replacement for TMG on UTM9."
"If you want to secure your networks, this is a great device, but you have to put some time into it."
"The Zyxel Unified Security Gateway solution is stable and does its job effectively."
"The cost is very low."
"This is a capable appliance and the standard features work well for us."
"The most valuable features of the solution stem from web filtering, malware protection, and antivirus."
"The solution can scale well."

Cons

"Initially, there were issues with the wireless network as wireless access points were disappearing from the dashboard after some time."
"Sophos UTM could be simplified, and they can improve on the many other features, like SD-WAN and load balancing."
"I would also like it if they could work on the price because it is expensive."
"In Sophos UTM there is always a problem with the routing tables. If you want to see the routing table, you have to use the UI. You can't do it via a web browser. The routing table is better in Fortinet."
"They could use more SSL VPN support."
"We would like to have unique viewable IDs for rules and in the packet filter logfile, for easier debugging of old log files."
"Although Sophos UTM is a good product, other products have more flexibility with their pricing."
"Its identification of users without the need of setting up Proxies or Identity software could be better, that is probably the trickiest section to setup."
"I have never seen it in any company that I've worked with before, and I would advise other companies not to buy it."
"The product has some scalability and data management issues where improvements are required."
"Although manageable, the user interface is a little bit slow and could be improved. The advanced UI allows me to do whatever I want, but this is where the issue of speed exists."
"The integration capability is quite challenging. The system is very complicated, and many features are hidden."
"Sometimes it reboots when you least expect it, and that's the main issue."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Compared to the current market offerings, like FortiGate or SonicWall, Sophos offers its solution at a good price."
"It will cost approximately $67 US per device. We have 300 devices in our organization."
"Pricing for the upgrade was very competitive as Sophos wanted to retain existing customers."
"The appliance should be purchased and there is a fee for the license."
"We originally purchased the solution through the AWS Marketplace. I started my proof of concept doing pay-as-you-go, then moved to a VAR for a 'Bring Your Own Licence' (BYOL) licensing model. The BYOL license still requires you to accept the terms of the AWS Marketplace to deploy."
"We pay for the service on a yearly basis. The last time we paid was in June, for a year. At the time, it was about $20,000."
"There is a license for the device and for the software. We pay annually for the solution and the cost is competitive."
"The licensing model is very straightforward, it's a bit pricey, but for what you get, it's well worth it."
"The price of Zyxel Unified Security Gateway is good compared to other similar products in the market."
"This gateway is pretty cheap."

Sophos UTM vs. Fortinet FortiGate
I have used both Sophos and Fortinet products in production and I have found the Sophos UTM appliances (hardware and virtual) to be a better fit most of the time -- with a few caveats which I will touch on below. In both instances, the transition from TMG will be mostly straightforward. The main…
