A tool for easy data migration from one environment to another that needs to fix its performance issues
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable features of the solution are pushdown, optimization, and partitioning, which can be used for frequent data loading, especially when we have a huge data volume in our company."
  • "While my company operates on the cloud, we have seen that Informatica Cloud Data Integration has some performance issues causing it to lag."

What is our primary use case?

In my company, we use Informatica Cloud Data Integration because I work in the insurance sector, where we use the tool for data migration from one environment to another. We also use Informatica Cloud Data Integration in scenarios where the clients switch from their legacy system to Informatica Cloud using Azure Synapse, because of which we have to migrate all the data to Azure Synapse.

How has it helped my organization?

The most valuable features of the solution are pushdown, optimization, and partitioning, which can be used for frequent data loading, especially when we have a huge data volume in our company.

What needs improvement?

While my company operates on the cloud, we have seen that Informatica Cloud Data Integration has some performance issues causing it to lag. I feel that Informatica is still in the process of improving its cloud. Sometimes, there are connectivity shoes in the product causing it to have multiple issues, because of which the solution hangs or lags. The product may have issues because they are new to the market and are trying to improve their services.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Informatica Cloud Data Integration for two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Stability-wise, I rate the solution a six out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution can be easily scaled up since we just need to take the aid of some PIM processor and increase the data volume as per what we want.

Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a seven out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

The solution's technical support is good. I rate the technical support a seven out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have an experience of more than ten years with Informatica PowerCenter.

How was the initial setup?

Informatica Cloud Data Integration's on-premises version is very good, considering the faster performance and efficiency it provides. Informatica Cloud Data Integration's cloud version is also getting enhanced since Informatica has been regularly doing some patching to increase the product's performance. Considering the current scenario, Informatica PowerCenter is a good product, especially its on-premises version.

The deployment doesn't take much time, and only a few minutes are needed to deploy the solution.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I rate the product's price a seven on a scale of one to ten, where one is the cheapest and ten is the most expensive. The product is a bit expensive.

What other advice do I have?

In the cloud, Informatica has migrated to a different environment in a single platform named IDMC, on which one can have cloud data migration, cloud application integration, data quality, and data governance, making everything combined with a single platform. Earlier in our company, we had to rely on different software or platforms for each functionality, but now we can use a single URL and work on a single platform.

I would like to speak about Informatica Cloud Data Integration's performance, which is too slow but works overall as a tool. To those planning to use Informatica Cloud, I would say that it is the second-best product in the marketplace, and soon it will become the leading product.

On a daily basis, the product has been increasing their overall availability and performance .On a weekly basis, the product gives out some new updates while fixing its old defects. It will be a good product in the coming years. Improvements in the current product will continue for some time.

I rate the overall product a seven out of ten.

Provides efficient data modularization features, but its technical support services need improvement
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution has the best feature for parameterization."
  • "Its features for partitioning and optimization could be better."

What is our primary use case?

We use the solution for data modularization.

What is most valuable?

The solution has the best feature for parameterization. We can apply it at the mapping and task flow levels. It helps with auto-linking and dynamic linking options for flexible data integration.

What needs improvement?

The solution's capability to handle large volumes of data compared to its on-premise version needs improvement. Its features for partitioning and optimization could be better as well. There needs to be more options for partitioning, including database partitioning, pass-through partitioning, etc. Additionally, it doesn't support XML data types for SQL server databases. Also, it captures success and targets rows only within a system-defined area. It should be able to capture and track the number of rows processed by each pipeline.

Presently, users need to write code against the existing APIs to access information data. It is a complicated process due to the limited functionality of APIs. Instead, there could be an option to write queries against repository tables to fetch the data like its on-premise version.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using the solution for two years.

How are customer service and support?

The solution's technical support team could be responsive. We have to contact their global support team to raise new feature requests. Currently, we encounter issues with parameterizing email IDs at the task level to configure features for success, warning, and failure. We sent a request to them back in 2020, but they are yet to add those features.

What other advice do I have?

I rate the solution a seven out of ten.

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

A stable and scalable solution that needs some improvement with connectivity and automation
Pros and Cons
  • "The valuable feature is that we can automate the integration part...It is a stable solution."
  • "Informatica MDM has limitations with connectivity."

What is our primary use case?

The solution is mostly used to automate MDM, send keyword dimension sites to the engineering team, or address historical records for the training-based employee.

What is most valuable?

The valuable feature is that we can automate the integration part. Also, it's suitable for data quality. The solution also helps create the data that has been helpful in data governance. We performed some effective or administrative charges in real-time and, most recently, in a real-time solution. So, it allows enrollment to capture and transform the data anytime.

What needs improvement?

Most of the demand is about how MDM can be automated so the changes occur automatically.

The whole server will change the storage engine, like any tool key, so everything can be automated.

Informatica MDM has limitations with connectivity. This is evident when we connect with our console, especially sometimes the process gets filled. With the tools we are locally running from our end, there should be some specific instance to register that is helpful and can support Informatica in running its modeling.

More automation is much required nowadays, as mainly the work will convert into a complete normal manual process.

There should be some specific integration tools, the managed services, involving the application, and then the code they use. That should be sufficient, meaning there should be leverage to openly adopt any new integration environment like PySpark that we will use. Some resiliency with the particular application, the code, and the type of files only can we address.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Informatica MDM for more than ten years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is a stable solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is a scalable solution for sending any new setup or data. Approximately six hundred users are using the solution.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support team is good. The administration has access to both servers. They can only provide access to run the tool, allow authentication, and how data can be secured. I rate the service and support as ten out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Previously, I have used Microsoft SSIS and AWS Glue, but Informatica is capable of doing multiple things for integration purposes, but also for data evaluation.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward. The deployment took ten to fifteen minutes, and almost fifteen administrators were needed for the deployment.

What was our ROI?

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I would say that based on the current scenario, the market trends show that it is not required for the price to be increased. But, functionality-wise, and considering that now as the trend of microservices is going on in the market if Informatica MDM can be replaced in a similar way with particular tools or components to meet the client's demands, we can use only those particular things for the DDoS service covering, for the backup, for the security, and data encryption. So that can be helpful. Part-wise, if somebody needs only the pipelines to be created, someone needs to get a complete data flow task, or someone requires only the MDMs to get in place and not complete information that they need to make. We have licenses, and we are provided with certain particular services in the solution.

What other advice do I have?

I urge those planning to use the solution to understand how they are modeling data encryption and data governance activities. Suppose you are implementing without knowing your data quality and data governance. In that case, the installation of those sources through MDM is not affected. So better to better understand the basics.

Then it will be helpful to use something specific.

I rate the overall solution a seven out of ten.

A stable solution that needs architectural and technological updates
Pros and Cons
  • "I think that it's a good solution...It is stable because we have the experience to deploy this solution."
  • "The product could be improved in the area of architecture and technology. All the parts are old."

What is our primary use case?

We have used it to elaborate on a project for Golden Record, for IDQ data quality, and create business cases for the control parties.

What needs improvement?

The product could be improved in the area of architecture and technology. All the parts are old.

I would like to migrate it to a new technology. It's better to have a new method for every IT system. Integrate with API, Kafka, and JMS, as API has in Jira code or Jira.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have used Informatica MDM for ten years. I have used Version 8.6 and 9.1 of this solution.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I think that it's a good solution, but it's an old solution. It is stable because we have the experience to deploy this solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I think it's based on ODBC drivers, and they are not good for scalability.

How are customer service and support?

We have not contacted customer service.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was complex. It must have taken around eight or nine months to deploy all Informatica systems. The deployment processes for on-premise and cloud are different. For on-premise, we must deploy the data models, and then we must deploy the rules. We must also deploy a .Go file extension and an exposition of the vendor code, among other things.

It's different if we have an on-premise solution. The stability is for the on-premise infrastructure. It builds the IT of enterprises of clients because Informatica is at 'Legacy' level.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

So, there are plans for licensing. There are subscription-based and usage-based licenses. Also, there are licenses for exceptional analytics, etc. In short, there are different models of licensing for every enterprise.

What other advice do I have?

I think there is a new Jira-driven event, Jira-driven data, for the flows and extensions. So in this power center technology, I think that it's complex to navigate through the solution without new technology. Overall, I rate the solution a seven out of ten.

Good customization for data search and sharing; GUI needs to be upgraded
Pros and Cons
  • "Able to customize data search and data sharing."
  • "The GUI needs to be a little more user-friendly and appealing."

What is our primary use case?

We use Axon for controlled and governed data sharing as well as for the policies and principles from a data governance perspective. Our use case was for an airport company and we used Axon in tandem with Datacat Log EDC. We customize data search and data sharing. We have a partnership with Informatica.

What is most valuable?

The management of the policy is very useful. The ability to customize data search and data sharing is useful. The solution has all the necessary features.

What needs improvement?

The GUI needs to be a little more user-friendly and appealing. Salesforce, for example, although in a different category, is very user-friendly and I think if they were to include some of the Salesforce principles, it would be helpful. Informatica needs to do a better job in terms of educating users.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using this solution for three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable and dependable as long as we keep an eye on the servers.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable.

How are customer service and support?

The support process needs to be more agile.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup took a few days. It wasn't very complex but there were some initial challenges because we were trying to setup the Informatica Data catalog, EDC, at the same time. The deployment was reasonable but not very smooth. We have around 300 users.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Licensing costs are generally on the higher side.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Collibra was a solution we evaluated but Informatica was the final choice.

What other advice do I have?

I rate this solution seven out of 10.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

Full data asset view, good support, but interface could improve
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature of Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog is it provides clients with a full view of the enterprise data assets. For example, how many data assets they have and who owns them."
  • "Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog could improve by having a much better user interface. It is not user-friendly."

What is our primary use case?

Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog is being used for recording enterprise assets, such as customers' products and vehicles.

We a consulting service that provides information on how to enter the catalog or forms to collect the data catalog and enter them into Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature of Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog is it provides clients with a full view of the enterprise data assets. For example, how many data assets they have and who owns them.

What needs improvement?

Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog could improve by having a much better user interface. It is not user-friendly.

In a new release of Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog, it would be beneficial to have some new features including data sharing.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog for approximately three months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable. There are some issues that can arise with Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog, but the vendor can resolve them.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have 10 people that use the solution.

How are customer service and support?

Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog sends support to our clients if they are having problems.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup of the Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog can be difficult. It can take approximately one week to install all the components, such as metadata.

What about the implementation team?

There are vendors to do the installation and it can cost a lot of money over the week that it takes.

What other advice do I have?

I recommend this solution to others. There is a large market in China for Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog.

I rate Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog a seven out of ten.

Feature-rich, data governance market leaders, and adequate technical support
Pros and Cons
  • "The dictionary, the search, and the ratings are without a doubt the most beneficial components of this solution."
  • "The main issue probably has nothing to do with end users, but installation can definitely be simplified."

What is our primary use case?

We essentially use Informatica Axon to set up a data governance framework for a corporation, usually a medium-sized or large organization.

What is most valuable?

The dictionary, the search, and the ratings are without a doubt the most beneficial components of this solution.

Socializing data governance is one of the examples, but I'm not sure what the others were. For instance, if you locate a specific data attribute, you can grade its accuracy by assigning it a star rating between 0 and 5.

When someone else conducts a search, they might discover whether employees at the company believe the data to be of high quality.

In terms of additional features, I believe it is quite rich. As I previously stated, it is a fairly mature product.

What needs improvement?

The main issue probably has nothing to do with end users, but installation can definitely be simplified. Also, I believe that this is something that they are already working on it, but it needs to be provided as a service.

The Microsoft version, Purview, is now available as a cloud service, it must be provided as a service rather than just installation. You do not need to go through the installation, you literally create an account in five minutes. That is something they need to do. I believe that it is already something they are on working on, but I don't believe it has yet been released.

For how long have I used the solution?

Over the past year, I have definitely used Informatica Axon.

I have worked with Informatica Axon for two years.

We are always working with the latest version.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Informatica Axon is a stable product.

It's a fairly mature product. For many years, it has been the market leader.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Informatica Axon is a scalable solution.

The smallest organization would have 500 users.

Any of the multinational corporations could be the largest. It's quite pricey.

It is commonly used by large multinational corporations.

It has two or three user interfaces, one for everyone in the organization, one for specific data analysts, and one for IT technical staff.

How are customer service and support?

Like many organizations, technical support responds quickly at times. It can take some time. It's about average, in my opinion. I wouldn't say it's particularly good or bad. It's average.

I would rate the technical support a three and a half out of five.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I am just really familiar with Azure DevOps as a deployment technology.

Some of the Azure services, such as Database and Purview, and Informatica tools, such as Axon, and Data Governance, are among the things I am familiar with.

How was the initial setup?

Informatica Professional Services should absolutely perform the installation due to its complexity. Additionally, training is required for end-client configuration. It is not something you can pick up and configure immediately.

Although there is no cloud version of it yet, it can be deployed in the cloud as a virtual machine, or VM.

Axon itself, you normally allow anywhere between five and ten days to conduct the installation configuration together, and that's not elapsed time. It normally takes a week to two weeks to install and configure an initial setup. This is elapsed time, not necessarily man hours. You will always need additional configuration to be done. Although the actual installation and configuration might be completed in a few weeks, getting it ready for use by the organization might take six months.

What about the implementation team?

We do not have a technical team. I was the person who deployed this solution.

It was a challenge, but I did it for the POC.

Informatica Professional Services was consulted when it came time for the client's actual installation.

Axon can typically be present; the technical installation only requires one person, and a second data specialist is typically required for configuration. Normally two. Additional technical setup and data configuration are required.

What was our ROI?

It is definitely high if used properly, but many organizations spend all of the money and then fail to use it to its full potential. It is unquestionably a good investment if used properly.

It depends on how the client uses it.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Pricing is determined by the number of licensed users as well as the number of Core CPUs.

You can imagine how expensive it would be for a company with 10,000 users, but it all depends on how many analyst user licenses they require.

I believe there is a flat fee for the end user.

It is not expensive, but individual licenses are required for technical users, data analysts, data stewards, and the data governance team, which can add up if you have a large number of them.

Different clients may have different licensing costs, but it is based on a yearly paid license. It is renewed every year. There is an initial licensing fee as well as an annual renewal fee.

They are very expensive, and they charge a lot because they know they are number one. I would rate them a five out of five. Five being the most expensive.

What other advice do I have?

I would definitely recommend it. If they can afford it. I strongly advise them to use it. But, before diving into Axon or any of the other governance tools, make sure they understand their data landscape thoroughly because the tool will not help them with that. They will fail if they do not have good data practices in place.

I'm a freelancer, but the consultancy I went through is also independent, but they do have a partner relationship with Informatica, as they do with many vendors.

I would rate Informatica Axon a nine out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises
