Beneficial hierarchy management, reliable, but AI could improve
Pros and Cons
- "The most valuable feature of Informatica MDM is hierarchy management. It's not something that's typically available and effective within ERPs."
- "Informatica MDM can improve the data catalog and data marketplace."
What is our primary use case?
How has it helped my organization?
Informatica MDM has helped our organization because we now work from a harmonized single record for customers and patients. We're able to have an aggregation or hierarchy view, which drives a whole variety of things, such as data quality and data reliability.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature of Informatica MDM is hierarchy management. It's not something that's typically available and effective within ERPs.
What needs improvement?
Informatica MDM can improve the data catalog and data marketplace.
Informatica MDM is expanding in AI by making it much more efficient and automated stewardship-related work. I'd like to see that accelerated and made available for on-premise.

For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Informatica MDM for approximately four years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The stability of Informatica MDM is good.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Informatica MDM is scalable.
We have approximately 100 people using this solution in my company and their roles vary. For example, we have stewards, data analysts, platform administrators, architects, developers, and support teams. The active users are primarily stewards and data analysts.
How are customer service and support?
We rate Informatica MDM support on an annual basis and we have quarterly executive business reviews where we discuss support issues.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We previously used SAP for MDM. We switched because there were new use cases that SAP couldn't meet.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup of Informatica MDM is more complex than it should be.
What about the implementation team?
We used a third party for the implementation of Informatica MDM.
We have approximately 20 people that do the maintenance and support of the solution. This includes support admin teams and architect engineers. We have a BA for each of the domains, shared architecture, shared engineers, ETL, and MDM. Additionally, we rely heavily on third-party assistance.
What was our ROI?
We have seen an ROI in duplicate data management, visibility to market share, and reduction in risk.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I rate the licensing cost of Informatica MDM a five out of ten.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We did go through a solution selection and RFP process before we chose Informatica MDM.
What other advice do I have?
My advice to others is for them to look at SaaS and cloud options first.
I rate Informatica MDM a seven out of ten.
Informatica MDM has a lot coming ahead from a solution standpoint, which is a benefit for them. However, there's a lot of configuration involved to keep the solution going and this is why I would encourage a SaaS solution for anyone coming in.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises
Disclosure: My company does not have a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer.

Practice Director - Digital & Analytics Practice at HCL Technologies
Great metadata management with more visibility and great technical support
Pros and Cons
- "The metadata management of Informatica is great."
- "It is not easy to set up and configure the tool."
What is our primary use case?
I use the solution for enterprise-wide data discovery and traceability, providing business context to data and collaboration between different stakeholders of data.
My organization, being a service provider, uses the product to develop domain PoCs, customer PoCs, develop data management and governance use cases, etc. The major issue with enterprises are the ability to quickly develop an MVP and showcase it to business and other data users for greater buy-in. This is important as these are new technologies - and hence, users might not easily adopt.
How has it helped my organization?
Our organization is a service provider as compared to an end-user. We have helped multiple organizations onboard onto data management using these technologies.
It has improved different areas for different enterprises, including the improvement in overall business outcome and business experience, imbibing a data-driven culture, having easy availability of the right and relevant data, allowing for better compliance to regulations, and providing greater data quality and privacy management.
It has also improved overall time to service data requests such as DSAR requests.
What is most valuable?
The metadata management of Informatica is great. When an organization uses developer for data integration, IDQ for Data Quality, EDC for Data Catalog, Axon for Business Glossary, DPM for data privacy management etc., Informatica tools integrate metadata from all these tools seamlessly. The advantage is getting a complete view of your enterprise data through business and data lineage - as it not only provides you with pure data lineage but also associates related data quality measures, data protection levels, etc.
What needs improvement?
Additional metadata harvesters from different major tools can be an added advantage. Informatica provides some smart connectors for harvesting metadata from some of the industry tools. That said, this can be improved a lot more.
Overall, the toolsets are really good.
Installation and configuration can be another area where Informatica can improvise a bit. It is not easy to set up and configure the tool. A proper step by step guide to ensure this process goes smooth can be a huge advantage for end customers.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've used the solution for more than six years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The stability is excellent.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The scalability is excellent.
How are customer service and support?
Technical support is good.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Most of our customers were using excel and email-based communication for data access. These new-age solutions improve efficiency ten times or more.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was not very straightforward. This is an area of improvement.
What about the implementation team?
We, being a service provider, have implemented and configured the setup on our own.
What was our ROI?
ROI depends on the buy-in from businesses and overall adoption rates. There is a huge amount of change management and change strategy that needs to be in place to ensure users are adopting the new tools/technology.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Informatica has good pricing options and a good professional services team who can help with setup/configuration.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
There are other competing good products such as Collibra, Azure Purview, Erwin, IBM CP4D, and more. All have their strengths and weaknesses.
What other advice do I have?
If you are an Informatica shop, there is no need to think twice to opt for an Informatica-based Data Management product suit.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Private Cloud
If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Scalable, ensures proper data governance, and is easy to set up
Pros and Cons
- "The scalability is very high."
- "The only thing that I can imagine that might be improved is how the available transactions verify addresses used. These transactions have a valid end date and must be used within the agreed timeframe."
What is our primary use case?
The solution is used for real-time validation of the addresses entered by end-users in the MDM solution and validation of the addresses which are received via the inbound interfaces.
Apart from validation, this service is used to enrich the address data, for example, entered addresses include country, city, and street name. The service returns additional characteristics, for example, postal code (if it can be derived from the other attributes), which are then written back in the requesting system. It's used for Master Data Management in our case.
How has it helped my organization?
The overall quality of the addresses associated with other master data entities (Customer, Supplier, physical locations, etc.) has improved significantly. Addresses have now standardized format per country of origin - this means that addresses located in one country have a bit different template than in others. This is a consequence of the fact that Informatica uses various country postal authorities to provide the content used by the Address Verification service. As explained earlier, we use the results of AV service to enrich the address information in some cases.
Due to improved quality of addresses, the user satisfaction of our MDM solution has increased. Also, the connected systems receive more complete data from MDM. Address Verification service helps in ensuring proper data governance of the master data which is used in many critical processes across the whole enterprise.
What is most valuable?
The product is easy to set up thanks to pretty good documentation.
It supports several ways of using it (real-time, batch mode) and has testing capabilities.
The pricing model is clear.
The service returns good results which vary depending on the country of the address origin. In case there are multiple matching addresses, this service returns all of them which allows our end of the process or the end-user to select the best matching record. The speed of returning the validated addresses is really great.
What needs improvement?
The product is really good in its current form; it's hard to imagine what can be improved. It's easy to integrate via the exposed APIs, hence, also in this aspect, I don't see much that can be changed.
The only thing that I can imagine that might be improved is how the available transactions verify addresses used. These transactions have a valid end date and must be used within the agreed timeframe. Sometimes it's difficult to predict how many transactions will be required. In the worst case, some of them might be lost if not used on time.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've used the solution for more than one year.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
There is no single issue with the stability since we started using it (more than 1 year ago).
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The scalability is very high.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We previously used Google APIs, however, that was for another client. Hence, there was no real switch as such.
How was the initial setup?
The product is very easy to set up and offers good documentation.
What about the implementation team?
We handled the implementation in-house.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I'd advise users to try to predict the expected usage of the service. The unused transactions may be lost if not used on time.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We looked at both Google and Experian.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Public Cloud

Senior Architect at a computer software company with 5,001-10,000 employees
Great product enrichment tool that provides flexibility and can be plugged with any e-commerce site
Pros and Cons
- "A great product enrichment tool."
- "Database access is highly restricted particularly if you're using the cloud version."
What is our primary use case?
We are customers of Informatica PIM and I'm a senior architect.
What is most valuable?
Informatica comes with a predefined data model which is the way in which you enrich your products. It acts not only as master data but also as a product enrichment tool. The product provides flexibility; you can go for an undefined number of attributes that define a product. You can plug it in with any e-commerce website. That's its value to us and why we need it.
What needs improvement?
Database access is highly restricted with PIM. If you're using the cloud version, you probably won't have database access or a view of it. If you're wanting a customized application, you can develop the out-of-the-box PIM solution with a little bit of customization here and there without even needing a database. That's a very big drawback. As a developer or as an architect, you need to have a data model. I know some people use it without database access and the issue is that they don't know what that data model is built on other than just seeing it through UI tabs. The one thing I'd really like to see is for the solution to be made scalable.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is stable, in terms of bugs they're very good. They keep evolving their toolset. I have encountered many bugs in Multidomain MDM, but to date not in P360.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Scalability depends on your use case. If you're using it as an integrator, then it is definitely scalable. That said, it would require an altogether separate MDM solution. If you don't have MDM, then there are likely to be some limitations. We're in the process of installing now but in my previous company, we created the core set of attributes through MDM. From there it went worldwide through an e-commerce website. We have 50 to 60 people internally using it as a tool. If you're exposing your data through an e-commerce website, then it's accessible to all, although just for reading and not for updates.
How are customer service and support?
If you're working with Informatica, you need to interact with them on the out-of-the-box features. They are very efficient and quick in their response times.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I've trained in Stibo which is a little bit better than PIM and I've used Oracle PDH and CDH. Those were basically a package MDM solution. If you're using SAP, I would suggest Oracle products. But there's been a very big evolution over the past decade when it comes to enterprise MDM tools. Most people working in companies are disbursed in different locations and using multiple toolsets, they can't be restricted to one technology. That's the reason that Informatica, Stibo, Riversand, and other technologies are very useful and very powerful. When comparing PDH to PIM or CDS to Multidomain, managing the Informatica toolset is easier in terms of effort required in comparison to managing Oracle MDM or Oracle CDH or PDH because they have their own set of limitations. The good thing is that they can be very easily coupled with an ERP solution. Here, you have to build real-time or multiple interfaces.
How was the initial setup?
The setup is relatively easy I would say. But if you need additional attributes, it gives you a repository manager feature where you can use XML, add your own attributes and then configure it. To my mind, the setup is simple to moderately complex.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Licensing costs are a little pricey. For my previous client, as a support contract partner, we were making less money than Informatica was charging them.
What other advice do I have?
Informatica 360 PIM was bought from Heiler and is a very good tool if you already have MDM in place and you simply want to use it as an enrichment tool. With Informatica, you perhaps need to go somewhere into the roots of Multidomain. P360, Multidomain, and C360 are all different things. Managing a thousand plus attributes into that data model is going to be very complex. If they could come up with a standard data model that Oracle offered customers like PCH or PDH, similar to what P360 has, that would be my preference. Also, my recommendation is to always utilize your team as an integrator rather than being a master data manager.
I rate the solution eight out of 10.

Architect at a computer software company with 5,001-10,000 employees
Offers good ROI but needs to provide user-friendliness when it comes to the configurations
Pros and Cons
- "The tool does give a good ROI."
- "The product is not too user-friendly to do the configurations."
What is our primary use case?
In the past, people used Informatica MDM because it was one of the leading tools at that point in time to work on an on-premises model. It was the leading tool in the market, offering vast customization options and matching and merging options that were better compared to other solutions. The way the data lineage or the customization options it gave, the tool was good. Now, the tool has a changed dynamic, and it is currently available on the cloud. Apart from Informatica MDM, there are other tools, as well as the market, that are completely on the cloud.
What is most valuable?
The feature of the product that has been most helpful in improving data quality revolves around Informatica DQ or IDQ, which is one of the tools Informatica offers. IDQ helps cater to the scoring of the data, clean up the data, and integrate it.
What needs improvement?
In terms of the room for improvement required in the product, I would say that the product is still in the maturing phase, specifically on the cloud. The product is not too user-friendly to do the configurations. There are a couple of areas in the product where I feel improvements can be made, but if I consider the algorithms used in the match process, the tool is very robust.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Informatica MDM for nine to ten years. My company is a partner of Informatica, and we also implement the tool.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Stability-wise, I rate the solution a seven out of ten.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
In terms of scalability, I would say that the product is currently more available in the cloud. Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a five out of ten. The scalability on the cloud is good. On the cloud, by default, the tool becomes quite scalable.
Informatica provides premium products. The product is mainly meant for enterprise-level customers because the tool is available at the premium cost.
How are customer service and support?
I have not used the technical support provided by the product. If you asked me about the support offered for the tool's on-premises model, I would say they were really good. We really liked Informatica's support. With the cloud, I'm not aware of the support.
How was the initial setup?
If one is a difficult setup and ten is easy, I rate the product's initial setup phase as a five.
If you are talking about the product on the cloud, the initial configuration must be done. There is quite a lot of refresh which takes place every time we have to publish something, and then we have to wait for some time. It is not that you make a change, but you can see it immediately in the tool. The wait period is quite long. If you are a first timer, it takes time for that person to figure out the product. Once you get the hang of it, then it becomes easy.
An end-to-end implementation would take nine to ten months, or maybe a little more than that, depending upon the customer's desired features.
What was our ROI?
The tool does give a good ROI.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The product is not very pocket-friendly for small and medium-sized businesses, and it is understandable because of the kind of features the tool gives.
On a scale of one to ten, if one is a cheap solution and ten is an expensive one, I rate the tool's price as seven.
What other advice do I have?
Informatica MDM is able to handle complex data integration scenarios with the help of IDCM, which offers the power of an ETL tool.
Speaking about the AI part, I feel the product is still in the maturing phase.
My first preference would be for Welkio, and only after that would I prefer Informatica MDM, so I would say that it won't be my first choice.
I rate the tool a seven out of ten.
Disclosure: My company has a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer. Partner

A scalable and stable product with good workflow functionalities
Pros and Cons
- "It is a very stable solution...It is a scalable solution."
- "There are some limitations with Informatica Axon when one tries to connect or integrate it with Jira."
What is our primary use case?
My company works with our different customers to implement and install the solution.
What is most valuable?
The workflow in Informatica Axon is intelligent and good. Informatica Axon provides good data collection and good search criteria. In Informatica Axon, workflow and business glossary are good.
What needs improvement?
There are some limitations with Informatica Axon when one tries to connect or integrate it with Jira. For example, I can't delete any workflows after the integration process. There are issues with the integration capabilities of the tool with third-party solutions, specifically Jira.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have experience with Informatica Axon for two to three years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is a very stable solution.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It is a scalable solution.
I recommend the solution to big companies because its functions are suitable for high-end companies.
How are customer service and support?
The P1 support offered by the solution's technical support is very fast. If it is not P1 support, the support a user might get will be slow as it takes time. I rate the technical support a seven out of ten.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Neutral
