Mimecast serves as an additional layer for email gateway security and data loss prevention. It also offers email signature management when Google's services fall short. Mimecast allows for uniform email signatures across the company. It also supports sending bulk promotional emails.

Pros and Cons
- "Certainly, the primary area needing improvement is Mimecast's customer support. Our experience as Mimecast customers has been less than satisfactory. Even when raising a priority ticket, the response time is unacceptably long, often taking around five to six hours. This level of service is disappointing. Additionally, there have been recurring service disruptions in the UK region, leading to extended email delays due to various service issues. This year alone, we've encountered such problems on approximately four occasions."

For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Mimecast Web Security for almost one and a half years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I will rate the stability of Mimecast Web Security as a seven as stability concerns and bugs have been evident. The support problem I mentioned is also a factor. Microsoft is a solid product; however, there are imperfections.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The product's scalability is undoubtedly a strong point. Mimecast excels in this aspect, and the number of users doesn't seem to be a limiting factor. In our case, we've employed Mimecast both internally and for our clients. We've successfully tested it with a user base of 20 thousand individuals. No issues have arisen in this regard.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
No, we heavily depend on the built-in solutions provided by Google Workspace. Google Workspace serves as our email platform and offers considerable capabilities. They have integrated features such as data loss prevention and advanced protection. Hence, our reliance on these features is significant. However, due to the COVID situation and the shift to remote work, we made a decision to explore products that offer supplementary functionalities beyond what Google provides.
How was the initial setup?
It’s a straightforward process to set up Mimecast, especially for individuals experienced in email gateway security. The setup is quite effortless. In fact, it's a real-time implementation that can be accomplished within a short span, even as little as thirty to forty minutes. The ease of setup depends on how the user intends to utilize the product. If there is need to make direct DNS changes, there might be a 24-hour implementation time. However, if coordination is established with management or IT personnel, the setup can be performed during non-business hours, such as midnight. Complexity is minimal. While larger organizations often encounter time-consuming procedures, smaller ones can swiftly implement the necessary changes.
What about the implementation team?
We installed it in-house. Regarding maintenance, the requirements are directly tied to the organization's size. For instance, if the target user base is around twenty thousand, it might necessitate a team of five to six engineers for deployment and addressing use cases. This is due in part to the user portal experience. For example, if emails get quarantined, users need to know how to manage their quarantined emails. Change management personnel should be available to provide user training on product usage. On the administrative side, extensive expertise isn't mandatory, especially if well-versed in email solutions. So, a maximum of five individuals would suffice.
What was our ROI?
The return on investment (ROI) is favorable, aside from the aforementioned support and stability concerns. These aspects are lacking, but otherwise, the product is valuable. As an email protection solution, it offers various functionalities, including URL-based protections. While certain features that would be beneficial are currently unavailable, Mimecast still outperforms alternatives in terms of features. The ROI is evident in the enhanced feature set compared to these competitors. We're currently in the process of evaluating other solutions, but Mimecast remains our current choice, and we're well-informed about its capabilities.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Two subscription options are currently offered: monthly and yearly. My suggestion is to opt for the yearly subscription as it can give some discount. The pricing isn't high as other cloud solutions are pricier than Microsoft's offerings.
What other advice do I have?
My recommendation to anyone currently using Mimecast is to ensure you have established a direct communication channel with Mimecast. This is crucial in case you encounter issues, service disruptions, or downtime. Relying solely on the support team might not suffice. It's advisable to have knowledge of key individuals within Mimecast whom you can contact directly to gain insights into ongoing situations. This approach is essential, as there might be situations where reaching out to specific individuals is more effective than traditional support channels.
I rate the overall solution a seven out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

The initial setup of Mimecast Mailbox Continuity is simple. Our deployment took one week to complete after a few weeks of planning.
I rate the initial setup of Mimecast Mailbox Continuity a ten out of ten.

Tech manager at a retailer with 11-50 employees
Reliable, reasonably priced, and offers helpful support
Pros and Cons
- "The solution offers good technical support."
- "The installation is not so straightforward."
What is most valuable?
It's very stable.
We find the product to be scalable.
The solution offers good technical support.
The price is reasonable.
What needs improvement?
The installation is not so straightforward. In comparison, for example, Proofpoint or Defender offer easier installations when you integrate with Active Directory.
For how long have I used the solution?
I started using the solution five years ago.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is stable and reliable. There are no bugs or glitches, and it doesn't crash or freeze.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We can scale the solution as needed.
How are customer service and support?
Technical support is good. We are happy with the level of support on offer.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I've used Defender, Proofpoint, and Mimecast.
Some companies are using Defender, some companies are using Proofpoint, and some are using Mimecast.
In my company, we are using Defender.
Mimecast and Microsoft Office 365 is better than Proofpoint for the mail filter rules only. The mail filter rules in Proofpoint are not the best.
How was the initial setup?
The solution is not straightforward to set up. The integration can be a bit harder than when compared to other solutions. That said, it's not so hard it's impossible.
I'd rate the initial setup a four out of five in terms of complexity.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
There are three types of licenses, however, I don't know the exact pricing or differences. My understanding is that it is not overly expensive, as my clients have used it for years and they would have left if it was costly.
What other advice do I have?
I'm a freelancer and working support for some companies who are using Mimecast and Proofpoint. Sometimes I create it as a subscription for them, and I configure everything from the scratch, and sometimes, I take it already configured and just maintain it and tune the settings in.
I'd advise those implementing the solution to read the documentation carefully before beginning.
I'd rate the solution eight out of ten. I'd rate them higher, however, they are difficult to set up with Active Directory.

Great reporting , good visibility, and feature-rich
Pros and Cons
- "What I like about the integration is that it is directly into Microsoft 365, users can use their Microsoft 365 credentials to log into the portal and access their mail."
- "While it's quick and easy, the initial setup could be more user-friendly."
What is our primary use case?
We use Mimecast Email Security with Targeted Threat Protection for email security.
What is most valuable?
What I like about the integration is that it is directly into Microsoft 365, users can use their Microsoft 365 credentials to log into the portal and access their mail.
It does have integrations, and there is an app that can be added to Outlook to allow them to do what they need to do.
While some of the setups are probably not as user-friendly as some of the other platforms, there is a lot of customization that you can do to the platform to help you pull up a lot of stuff that shouldn't be going into users' mailboxes.
I believe the world is going through a crazy period right now, and everyone is attempting to penetrate different systems as quickly as possible and change their ways of doing things.
I have always found Mimecast to be very responsive; for example, if we see something come through, they address it and it helps to sort out the issues. Overall, I'm pleased with them. I think I just look at what's out there every year during renewal time to see if we're still on the best platform or if we should consider migrating to something else.
It has great reporting, and we can see what's going on.
I am pleased with the features we have at the moment and everything it does; it's only one piece of the puzzle for our environment, but I'm pleased with how it detects things and some of the functionality that we have had to set up due to the complexity of our business and security. I'm pleased with everything. I don't have anything specific in mind that I'd be looking for.
What needs improvement?
While it's quick and easy, the initial setup could be more user-friendly.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with Mimecast Email Security with Targeted Threat Protection for two or three years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I did not have any issues with the stability of Mimecast Email Security with Targeted Threat Protection.
Maybe once in the last year, but it was a short period of time. Everything comes through. The capabilities during the impersonation protection, integrating with some of our various partners, and so on so that we can work seamlessly with them as well. Overall, I found it very easy to work with them.
How are customer service and support?
Technical support is good. I haven't had any problems with technical support.
Obviously, there is a paid add-on depending on the level of support you require, but they are extremely responsive. Whenever I call in, they usually resolve my issue right away, we'll go over it and give me a callback. It's not like I'm waiting weeks or months for a response. So far, so good.
How was the initial setup?
To be honest, the initial setup was very quick and easy. I had a quick turnaround because I was transitioning away from another company we were using called AppRiver and their SecureTide product, which was okay but not my favorite. I didn't like the integrations and other procedures we had to go through, and the Mimecast product seemed to fit better in comparison.
What other advice do I have?
There is a lot of functionality that we haven't fully taken advantage of.
I would say, make sure you are selecting a product that best fits your business.
Some things will be added as you go through the implementation process. Since our implementation, items have been added, and with some of the functionality that they have, we simply don't have the time to assess and determine what we require.
I would recommend reviewing everything that comes with your product license and ensuring that it is covered when you go through the implementation process.
I would rate Mimecast Email Security with Targeted Threat Protection an eight out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Public Cloud
Disclosure: My company does not have a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer.
Graduate Analyst at a tech services company with 201-500 employees
Can observe multiple information sensors and monitors outbound traffic
Pros and Cons
- "The initial setup is easy."
- "Mimecast need to ensure that the body text format is correctly handled and that images are properly embedded in the body text."
What is our primary use case?
We have a client using the Mimecast tool. We observe multiple information sensors, such as default information, mismatched data, unknown IPs, and various user activities.
They use Mimecast to monitor outbound traffic, including impersonation and mismatched data. All these activities are managed within Mimecast. Companies use Mimecast to enhance network security within their budget. For outbound communication, emails go to Mimecast, where they are scanned and delivered to the user.
What is most valuable?
We are monitoring emails that come from outside the organization. Some impersonation policies are in place, and we are tracking five different types of impersonation policies. These policies include external IP addresses, external users, reply-to mismatches, default inbound attachments, and VIP impersonation cases.
What needs improvement?
Mimecast need to ensure that the body text format is correctly handled and that images are properly embedded in the body text. Additionally, Mimecast should ensure that the system can accommodate multiple users and effectively send information to them.
For how long have I used the solution?
We are using V7.5.0 of the solution.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
One person is using this solution.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is easy.
What other advice do I have?
I have learned various aspects related to the topic. I will monitor all types of logs, including those from Mimecast, which provides information about users’ contacts, histories, and account numbers. Although multiple policies are in place, we are currently monitoring just five specific types.
Mimecast is useful. According to the premises, Mimecast is important, but the choice of tools often depends on each company’s requirements and budget. While Mimecast is a highly effective console for email protection, companies select tools based on their own budgets and needs.
It is easy for a beginner to learn. If a person understands impersonation policies and how to apply them, the process becomes straightforward. However, if someone is unfamiliar with these policies and their monitoring, it can be challenging. However, once a person is knowledgeable about impersonation policies, the process becomes much easier.
Overall, I rate the solution an eight out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

A stable solution that can be used for email security, but it should include more AI features
Pros and Cons
- "Email security is the most valuable feature of the solution."
- "The solution should include more AI features instead of Mimecast's more general static configuration tooling."
What is our primary use case?
We use the solution for email security.
What is most valuable?
Email security is the most valuable feature of the solution.
What needs improvement?
The solution should include more AI features instead of Mimecast's more general static configuration tooling.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Mimecast Email Security with Targeted Threat Protection for two years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I rate the solution a nine out of ten for stability.
What about the implementation team?
The solution was deployed by a vendor for us.
What other advice do I have?
Mimecast Email Security with Targeted Threat Protection is a well-known solution that was recommended to us by a third party.
I wouldn't say Mimecast Email Security with Targeted Threat Protection is the best tool out there, but it's okay. I would advise potential users to try out its alternatives as well.
Overall, I rate the solution a six or seven out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Private Cloud

Senior Equity Analyst & Director of Managed Income Strategy at a financial services firm with 51-200 employees
Reliable, and protects emails from threats, including spam
Pros and Cons
- "It's good, it keeps the spam out."
- "The filtering needs more flexibility."
What is our primary use case?
I am an investment research analyst. We use this solution for spam and as our security filter.
What is most valuable?
It's good, it keeps the spam out.
It does a really good job at not allowing threats through.
What needs improvement?
This solution can be frustrating. It blocks many things that should be going through. I have to authorize permission, which seems to be a frequent occurrence. It may be that we have set our protection too high but we work in a regulated industry.
When you click to change permissions on something, it always launches a browser instance to tell me that I have taken an action. I have to close that out and go on to the next one, and when I asign permission another item, again it opens up a browser again to notify me that I have taken action. I don't know why it does that or why it is necessary.
The filtering needs more flexibility.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Mimecast for four or five years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I have not had any issues with the stability of Mimecast Email Security with Targeted Threat Protection. We have not experienced any glitches or bugs.
How are customer service and technical support?
I have not contacted technical support.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I am not familiar with the pricing.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I have researched Magic Software. I wanted a better understanding of the differences in the offerings. I allocated capital, I am trying to see if Magic is a good holding for our small-cap portfolio.
It is abstract but I don't do any application development.
What other advice do I have?
I would rate Mimecast Email Security with Targeted Threat Protection an eight out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises
Disclosure: My company does not have a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer.
IT System Administrator at a engineering company with 1,001-5,000 employees
Easy-to-use admin console, stable and scalable, and does a good job
Pros and Cons
- "It does a good job for us, and its admin console is easy to use."
- "Their support should be improved. They are notorious for sending you to knowledge-based articles rather than actually talking to you, but that is, unfortunately, kind of becoming a trend with everything. In terms of features, I haven't had any complaints. However, I don't like the fact they moved to a paid training subscription model. They used to have a lot of free webinars for training, but they have started to charge for them in the past year."
What is our primary use case?
It is our spam filter, phishing filter, and executive impersonation filter. We have its latest version.
What is most valuable?
It does a good job for us, and its admin console is easy to use.
What needs improvement?
Their support should be improved. They are notorious for sending you to knowledge-based articles rather than actually talking to you, but that is, unfortunately, kind of becoming a trend with everything.
In terms of features, I haven't had any complaints. However, I don't like the fact they moved to a paid training subscription model. They used to have a lot of free webinars for training, but they have started to charge for them in the past year.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using this solution for two years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is stable. We didn't have any issues.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It is scalable. It is used across our entire enterprise. We probably have about 175 people, and they range from our CEO to all the way down to our warehouse people.
How are customer service and technical support?
They always send you a link to an article rather than call you and talk to you about the problem you're reporting.
How was the initial setup?
It was pretty complex.
What about the implementation team?
We had a third party do the setup for us.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We looked at Microsoft, Proofpoint, and Mimecast.
What other advice do I have?
I would advise others to take a good look at it. There are a lot of layers to it, and there are parts of Mimecast that we don't even use yet. It is pretty much a beast when it comes to email security, but just make sure you take your time and have somebody who knows how to set it up. Give enough training to your admin. I manage several different pieces, and Mimecast is one of them. It is just an ongoing thing that requires monitoring all day and looking for phishing, impersonations, and things like that. You also have to set up different policies as they come about for block centers and permitted centers. It is almost a full-time job.
I would rate Mimecast Email Security with Targeted Threat Protection an eight out of ten. I don't really have any complaints, and it does its job.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Private Cloud
