We are not deploying PeopleSoft for our internal process, but we are implementing PeopleSoft to other organizations. Clients primarily use it for their financials, for the HCM, and some of them do use it for their supply chain.
Vice President - Enterprise Applications at a computer software company with 1,001-5,000 employees
Stable with good integration capabilities and has the ability to scale
Pros and Cons
- "It's great for helping users deal with their supply chain."
- "The financial capabilities are great."
- "There can occasionally be complexity in the initial setup."
What is our primary use case?
What is most valuable?
The financial capabilities are great.
We really like the HCM.
It's great for helping users deal with their supply chain.
The stability is quite good.
The solution has the potential to scale.
It's very easy to integrate with other solutions.
What needs improvement?
I'm not a direct user. I'm more of an implementor. Therefore, I can't speak to what may be missing. If we do need to add something, we can do so for the client via extensions. I'm not sure what a client would like in future releases.
There can occasionally be complexity in the initial setup.
The pricing could be lower.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been working with this solution for almost six or seven years. It's been a while.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The stability of the solution is excellent. There are no bugs or glitches. It does not crash or freeze. It's reliable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The scalability is fine. We don't have any issues if we need to expand. That said, we haven't had any situations where people wanted to expand anything. Of course, if it also happens it's fine.
We have about 15 clients on the solution so far.
How are customer service and support?
Technical support has been fine. They are helpful and responsive. We're happy with the level of support we get.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup can be straightforward or complex. We've dealt with both types of implementations. It really depends on the client and their requirements.
What about the implementation team?
We tend to implement this solution for our clients.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
This solution offers a perpetual license.
While I cannot compare the solution directly to others on the market, I can say that it would be ideal if the pricing was a bit less.
What other advice do I have?
We are an implementor and a partner of Oracle.
In our client's environment, we are using the latest version of the solution. I can't speak to the exact version number.
I'd recommend the solution to other companies, however, it all depends upon the maturity of the customer, and its ability to adapt to this Tier 1 ERP's expertise.
I'd rate the solution at an eight out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

A stable system that is good for payroll, HR, and benefits
Pros and Cons
- "Peoplesoft is the best payroll software in the market."
- "If there is another release, they should look at going to mobile computing to stay competitive."
- "For HCM the editing criteria, especially for the time and labor section, the editing tool needs improvement."
What is our primary use case?
The primary use case of this solution is for HR, payroll, benefits, time and labor, e-pay, absence management, and position management.
What is most valuable?
Peoplesoft is the best payroll software in the market.
What needs improvement?
For HCM the editing criteria, especially for the time and labor section, the editing tool needs improvement. The 9.2 Time and Labor came with a lot of features. People didn't use them, instead, they used their own.
The financial interface should be optimized. It's not the best way to do an interface between HCR and financial. It runs like it was a patch job. In the past, the financial was separate and HCR was separate. When they came out with a new interface, people were too lazy to undo their current work.
Commitment accounting also needs improvement.
If there is another release, they should look at going to mobile computing to stay competitive.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using this solution for twenty-two years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is very stable, especially the payroll.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
This solution is scalable.
How was the initial setup?
If you know PeopleSoft, then the setup is straightforward.
If you go to the PeopleSoft education sector they make it complicated and people don't understand.
It's important to provide consultants with proper training. Often the implementation is completed incorrectly and they blame the solution. It's not the solution, rather it's the people who implemented it incorrectly. If it's not set up correctly then it will take the software forever.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The licensing depends on the number of people using it. The fees are based on the number of users you have and the number of features or options you require.
They can sell it based on the population. For example, if you have five thousand users they will charge a base amount per user. It's approximately $3,000,000 to $4,000,000 USD per year.
It also depends on the size of your company. If your company is small then you can take a different licensing, such as a constant number. Or, if your company is growing and is dynamic then you would select the license for the number of users and the features you require.
It comes in bundles for HCM, which has HR, benefits, payroll, and time and labor. Whether you use all of these features or not, it's there for you.
To obtain a certified license as a consultant it will cost you a few thousand dollars. I don't believe in the licensing process. I was on a plane once and a woman was sitting next to me and she was completing her license online but she was on the phone asking her boyfriend for the answers to the questions asked. This is not a trustworthy or reliable way to obtain a license.
They also have a separate license for contract management, for people who do contract payroll.
What other advice do I have?
It's important to know the product, but know the business, it's just as important.
Most are going with cloud solutions because they don't want the IT departments. When you go with the cloud, you have to accept it, you can't change it. Anytime there is a change you have to pay for customization and that is very expensive.
People should understand the features and the payroll policies to have it work correctly.
PeopleSoft had Canadian and US payroll tables in the same table and you have to know or remember to put the correct payroll code.
I don't believe in obtaining a license, it's about the working experience.
People are now interested in WorkDay, for mobile computing.
WorkDay was initially put in place to replace PeopleSoft from the people who designed PeopleSoft. They aimed to replace PeopleSoft with WorkDay because they were upset that PeopleSoft sold. It was a hostile bid and they didn't want to sell but it got sold.
Peoplesoft has been in business since 1988, they are very mature.
Review the implementation of your existing software.
If you are looking for payroll software, PeopleSoft is a solid system.
I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.
Disclosure: My company does not have a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer.

It is the best solution to maintain employee information, but it is expensive, and the technical support must be improved
Pros and Cons
- "Job data is a valuable feature."
- "The Time and Labor module is not that flexible."
What is our primary use case?
I have used the product for maintaining employee information for a bank. It is the best HR solution to maintain employee information.
What is most valuable?
Job data is a valuable feature. The business unit concept is also important.
What needs improvement?
The Time and Labor module is not that flexible. It's very cumbersome to create the rules.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using the solution since 1999.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The product is very stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We had 160 members using the tool in our team. The solution is scalable if we do not complicate it with integrations.
How are customer service and support?
The response time must be improved.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Neutral
How was the initial setup?
I rate the ease of setup a seven or eight out of ten. It takes us weeks to get the proper structure implemented.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The tool is expensive. There are much cheaper products available in the market.
What other advice do I have?
If someone has a license to the tool, I recommend utilizing it completely and reap its benefits. There are so many solutions available in the market on the cloud. Overall, I rate the solution a six out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Richly configurable, and offers great customizations
Pros and Cons
- "It's very fully featured. It has more features and more configurability than SAP."
- "It would be nice if it became even more declarative in its development."
What is our primary use case?
I've put in project costing and/or P2P systems for places like the European Investment Bank and IFAD.
What is most valuable?
PeopleSoft is a fantastic solution. It's deployable in the cloud.
It's very fully featured. It has equal in feature/function and more configurability than SAP.
The customization is great. Also, you can change it significantly without having to write much code. That's a big benefit for multinational organizations.
It's very stable.
Technical support is decent.
The solution is incredibly scalable.
What needs improvement?
It would be nice if it became even more declarative in its development so that, basically, you don't have to write any code like with Salesforce.
It's pretty much fully featured right now. They're mostly bringing out small improvements to existing features and then expanding the product set.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've worked with the solution for 25 years. I worked with the solution up until six months ago.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is extremely stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The solution scales well. It's extremely scalable - so much so that it's the only thing that can handle high volume customers like Amazon with their millions of employees.
How are customer service and support?
Technical support was great. It's still okay.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I'm also familiar with SAP, which doesn't have as many configuration capabilities. I'm also familiar with Workday.
Peoplesoft is your own instance. You're not stuck in a multi-tenant deployment where you have no control over the features or the functionality. PeopleSoft, due to the fact that it's your own instance and even in the cloud, it's not run as SaaS. With PeopleSoft, have complete control over what you're doing, so you can customize and change a lot. Even in the cloud it runs as single tenant PaaS which gives a lot of advantages.
How was the initial setup?
It's quite straightforward to implement the solution. There are a lot of configuration choices; however, it's very simple and straightforward when you understand what you're doing.
The time it takes to deploy with any of these systems is based on the client, not the software. If you have a client that knows what they want to do, it's quite easy. It's quite quick. However, it just depends on the mindset of the client. Do they work in an agile way, or are they still stuck in waterfall? A lot depends on the experience level and maturity of the customer's processes.
There's always maintenance. Oracle releases two or three service packs a year to upgrade. They went from a big release model to a small service pack-driven release model. There are now functions and new features that get dropped in every six months or every four months. You have to be aware of that if you want to take advantage of the new stuff.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
What other advice do I have?
If you are running an financial institution or project-driven organization, there is no better solution than PeopleSoft.
Overall, I would rate the solution nine out of ten.

Technical support is not very good and needs improvement in the area of speed in responding to issues.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
PeopleSoft has a yearly maintenance fee.
What other advice do I have?
PeopleSoft is a really good product and I would rate it a nine out of ten.

- "I would like for the initial rollout process to be completed faster so that it can be implemented in a more efficient manner."
What is our primary use case?
We use this for HR management.
What is most valuable?

What needs improvement?
I would like for the initial rollout process to be completed faster so that it can be implemented in a more efficient manner.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using PeopleSoft for two years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is a stable product. Even though it is a cloud-based product, it still has good availability and we do not face any downtime.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
This solution is scalable.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup takes a long time, as does any cloud-based solution.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I would consider this to be an expensive product, but the quality justifies it.
What other advice do I have?
I would recommend this product to many potential customers; however, I do not believe that the price is justifiable for smaller companies.

Global Manager Information Security at a manufacturing company with 201-500 employees
Scalable and adaptable for finance, manufacturing, service, and sales requirements
Pros and Cons
- "The feature that I have found most valuable is having the sources so that you're able to adapt the product to your needs. That was a big benefit."
- "The area that could be improved is the upgrade process, it's not the easiest. Oracle stopped supporting our version. So we have to move either to the cloud or work in a non-supported situation. That was certainly a disadvantage. That's also the reason why we decided not to stay with Oracle. Now we are moving to SAP."
What is our primary use case?
For most of PeopleSoft's functionalities, everything is related to finance, to manufacturing, to service, and to sales and sales opportunities. The broad scope for most of the year includes these functionalities.
What is most valuable?
The feature that I have found most valuable is having the sources so that you're able to adapt the product to your needs. That was a big benefit. Then, when we chose Oracle, it was also for the graphical interface, which was already uploaded at that time. These are the two big advantages.
What needs improvement?
The area that could be improved is the upgrade process, it's not the easiest. Oracle stopped supporting our version. So we have to move either to the cloud or work in a non-supported situation. That was certainly a disadvantage. That's also the reason why we decided not to stay with Oracle. Now we are moving to SAP.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been using PeopleSoft for almost 10 year now.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Once the setup is done and it's tuned, it is very stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It is not that difficult to scale it. If you work in a virtualized environment it is easy to scale. You just have to add a CPU and memory and reboot the thing, and you have the necessary performance. In a RAC environment, you add another member in your cluster, and then you have more performance.
How are customer service and technical support?
Technical support for the database, for the Linux environment, and for the virtualization layer, is great. However, for the functional PeopleSoft support, we were not that happy. The first thing they say is, "you have to upgrade to the next version, and if the problem is still there, please call us again." That was a little bit difficult. We weren't satisfied with the functional support. For the database, for the virtualization platform, and for the Linux, that was very good.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is rather complex, depending on what you want. If you want to set up a RAC environment, then it's more complex and you need additional hardware. You need a skilled Oracle DBA. If you keep it to a single INSERT, it's simpler.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
We have an enterprise agreement, which is great because you don't have to look to the number of users every year. You have to send the results of the company to Oracle, and depending on the limits that were defined in the contract by module, you see if you exceeded those limits or that you stayed within them. Then you have to buy additional products and support. It is a flexible model, but it only goes up. So if you come during a more difficult period, like last year with Corona, it never goes down.
What other advice do I have?
On a scale of one to ten, I would give PeopleSoft an eight.
To raise that score they would have to improve the upgrade path to the cloud.
The advice I would give to others who are looking into implementing PeopleSoft is to go directly for the cloud product. Don't do it on-prem. Go directly for the cloud product.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Customizable with a good interface, but is very bad in terms of performance, resilience, and scalability
Pros and Cons
- "It is a customizable product; we can customize it based on our needs, which is one of the features that I like about PeopleSoft, and as far as financial accounting is concerned, the user interface is very good and you can also configure Chart of Accounts for all performance insights."
- "Scalability is not there in PeopleSoft. Its performance and resilience are also very bad. When you're trying to stretch it, it breaks. It is not resilient. It is also not stable. It is stable as far as data is concerned, but the infrastructure is not stable."
- "I am not satisfied with this solution because its performance is not good."
What is our primary use case?
We use it for financial books. It is used for bookkeeping, accounting, and reporting.
It is on-premise, and the next logical step in the journey is to either take it to a public cloud such as GCP or go for SaaS.
What is most valuable?
It is a customizable product. We can customize it based on our needs, which is one of the features that I like about PeopleSoft.
As far as financial accounting is concerned, the user interface is very good. You can also configure Chart of Accounts for all performance insights.
What needs improvement?
Scalability is not there in PeopleSoft. Its performance and resilience are also very bad. When you're trying to stretch it, it breaks. It is not resilient.
It is also not stable. It is stable as far as data is concerned, but the infrastructure is not stable.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using this solution for more than 13 years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is not stable. It is stable in terms of data, but it is not stable in terms of infrastructure. This is because PeopleSoft has to rely on Oracle and Microsoft for the underlying infrastructure stack, so it boils down to how reliable these components are. From what I have seen, Windows is not reliable, and therefore, the time it takes for transaction processing is not good. It takes a long time.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It is not scalable. When you're trying to stretch it, it breaks.
How are customer service and technical support?
Their technical support is not that good. Because we've done so much customization, they don't support us. They support only out-of-the-box features.
How was the initial setup?
It was complex. It was done 15 years ago. I wasn't there when the installation was done, but it was quite complex.
What other advice do I have?
I am not satisfied with this solution because its performance is not good. Everything Oracle promises is under-delivered. For example, version 12c of Oracle Database promises an in-memory capability feature, and they say that in-memory makes your workload super fast, but we haven't seen that improvement. It is a case of overpromising and under-delivering. It is also very difficult to adopt the features that Oracle keeps releasing. PeopleSoft is certainly very flexible, but we cannot use the new features.
I wouldn't recommend this solution because PeopleSoft is now the end of life. There are no new customers for PeopleSoft. I wouldn't suggest anyone to go for it. It is a dying product. Even though Oracle says that it will be supporting PeopleSoft until 2030, you shouldn't go for PeopleSoft.
I would rate PeopleSoft a six out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Very solid and mature; PeopleTools enables customization and flexibility
Pros and Cons
- "A solid and mature product."
- "I think it's a very strong, solid product, very mature."
- "Tools and UI could be enhanced."
- "I think PeopleSoft should focus on enhancing the tools and the UI, and making it a more updated app as opposed to the old, tiny, older look and feel."
What is our primary use case?
We implement this solution for our clients. Some of our clients use the on-prem version and some on cloud. We either do our own private hosting or use a public platform depending on the client. If public, we generally use AWS or Oracle. I work with clients in higher ed or the public sector and they're generally looking for a more updated solution than they're currently using. We are partners with Oracle.
What is most valuable?
I think PeopleSoft is a solid solution. It has a lot of the basics. If the system is used properly it meets the needs of the customer. I think it's a very strong, solid product, very mature. I haven't heard of any issues from our clients. The solution has PeopleTools as a feature which allows for customization and provides flexibility.
What needs improvement?
I think PeopleSoft should focus on enhancing the tools and the UI, and making it a more updated app as opposed to the old, tiny, older look and feel. That's where they should put their efforts.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been implementing this solution for over 26 years.
What other advice do I have?
I would rate this solution a 10 out of 10.
