Stable and easy to set up with good flexibility
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution is very simple to use and easy to deploy."
  • "The integration capabilities of the solution could be improved."

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use the solution a SaaS-based service to streamline the setup, as it only requires one agent and not multiple licenses.

What is most valuable?

We're an integrator. We have a business relationship with the company.

Apex One is a single agent that covers most needs and has a SaaS-based model, so we do not need any in-house set up to host this application. There will be no additional charges for those types of needs in that area.

Product-wise it is perfectly fine. If you compare similar kinds of services from other competitors, you'll find you need to go for multiple licenses and multiple agents with other products. However, with Apex One, it gives one single solution, with just one agent and most of your problems are resolved. It's like a silver bullet.

The solution offers very good machine learning.

The solution is very simple to use and easy to deploy.

The solution is very flexible and works on multiple platforms as well as on servers.

What needs improvement?

The integration capabilities of the solution could be improved.

In a DLT context, the solution needs more features. The DLT needs to be more fully fleshed out. Trend Micro claims that they are security provider, not the compliance provider, and the DLT is a completely compliance-based solution.

For how long have I used the solution?

We're an integrator and have been using the solution for a while now.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is very stable. There aren't bugs or glitches. It's reliable. It doesn't crash or freeze on us.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

In terms of scalability, it depends on what you mean. Add-on licenses are easy to implement. You can add them at any point in time and if it supports your endpoint machine, it supports other machines as well. It supports your ATM machines and it works on various platforms, including Mac and iOS. You can install it on servers as well. There's quite a lot of flexibility within the product.

Trend Micros has a pretty large customer base. I'm not sure how many people are on the solution currently. I know that a decent number of organizations are using it.

How are customer service and support?

We assist our clients in technical support as needed.

The product's technical support is also fine, as they have a completely channel-based model. In that context, you can buy from your solution provider or reseller. They, like us, will have tech support available. In our case, we have our own engineers who are trained on Trend Micro products. They are good and they're free to use for our clients.

How was the initial setup?

The solution's initial implementation is not difficult or complex. It's easy to deploy and quite straightforward.

What about the implementation team?

We're a system integrator. We implement the solution for our clients.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It is a completely SaaS-based model.

Licensing costs depend completely on the number of users or licenses. They have a specific pricing structure. For example, if you are looking for 100 users to be on the product, in the Indian market (we're based in India), the cost is nearly $2,500 to $3,000 maximum for one three-year license. We'll usually get a three-year subscription.

What other advice do I have?

We're quite familiar and regularly work with Trend Micro products.

The solution is endpoint protection bundled with a couple of more features, with basically a lot of DLT application filtering, et cetera.

We are a system integrator. We offer tech support and help our customers. We sell Trend Micro licenses to companies.

I'd recommend the solution. It's very nice. We've supplied it to many clients with very good results. We haven't received any complaints at all and our agents are satisfied with the solution.

Overall, I'd rank it nine out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Offers firewall protection for our web servers in production and is easy to use
Pros and Cons
  • "I would emphasize the ease of use and the quality of operations. Trend Micro is quite stable."
  • "We had a few occasions where we had to turn off our clients' computers to upgrade the drivers."

What is our primary use case?

We use Trend Micro OfficeScan for endpoint and server security and protection in a small enterprise organization.

How has it helped my organization?

Other major components can be integrated with the OfficeScan solution and managed through a centralized console. We haven't started using all of them yet. We are going to use the DLP data leakage prevention component, soon. It can be added as a plug-in. It's just a separate license.

What is most valuable?

The ease of use is most valuable with Trend Micro OfficeScan. I value the security provided. We haven't had any specific incidents while using it. It's doing its primary job quite well. It is also well integrated with other Trend Micro Solutions that we use, via Trend Micro Control Manager.

I would emphasize the ease of use and the quality of operations.

What needs improvement?

We had a few compatibility issues while updating certain drivers. We had a few occasions where we had to temporarily turn off the solution on our clients' computers to upgrade the drivers.

It's not completely the fault of the antivirus provider. The problem is with the Microsoft Windows system and the drivers themselves. It's a shared responsibility.

Trend Micro needs some kind of included warning when OfficeScan senses that somebody is updating some drivers that have known issues. I have the same problem occur also with other products, so it's not specific to Trend Micro OfficeScan. It's a typical problem.

For how long have I used the solution?

In this company, we've been using Trend Micro OfficeScan for 15 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Trend Micro is quite stable. We didn't have too many problems. There were, in the past, a few occasions where we had some problems. That was mostly related to new Microsoft Windows versions.

Lately, it's been quite stable and we are satisfied with it.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

For the scalability, we are quite small. We are not a large company. We have around 60 licenses that cover both endpoints and servers (essentially, the same client is used everywhere, just the policies are different). For that number of licenses, scalability is not a problem.

How are customer service and technical support?

Their technical support is good. We didn't have many requests. I had one request recently, and it was very fast. They provided us an adequate solution.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Trend Micro OfficeScan was used from the beginning to replace some solutions. It has been used for the last 15 years. We are mostly a Trend Micro shop.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is quite straightforward. There are a lot of options after you set up the solution. After the initial setup, it's quite easy to do. It's not complex.

What about the implementation team?

We acquired it through a reseller. They are also a systems integrator. They provide other solutions and support for us. We took the Trend Micro solutions from them.

What other advice do I have?

On a scale from one to ten, I would rate the platform a nine.

Provides good reports, affording control and a birds-eye view of what's transpiring
Pros and Cons
  • "We have found the reports to be most valuable."
  • "Whether the license is monthly or annual depends on the deal of the company."

What is our primary use case?

We use the solution as a central server so that clients may be deployed on their PCs.

We use it for client endpoint purposes.

What is most valuable?

We have found the reports to be most valuable. Apex Central provides good reports, affording control and a birds-eye view of what's transpiring.

What needs improvement?

The endpoints should be addressed. Occasionally, certain driver versions, such as the original PC drivers and the ones that are HP, would read something as an external threat and this would cause us problems. In reality, these were nothing more than false alarms. In a big environment, this presented an issue at the time. The issue was, in fact, internal and not external, such as that originating from a driver, like a graphics card driver, or a DLL file. Alarms were going off in all our PC's and this was a problem we encountered with a major customer of ours. However, a patch was released and the problem was dealt with.

The support could also be better.

Don't get me wrong. I am not saying that the solution is not user friendly, but some of the patches are creating problems, such as those of the driver that we are struggling to trace out.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for the past three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

So far the product has proven stable and implementable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable and I plan to continue to use it in the future.

How are customer service and technical support?

The technical support and the extent of its knowledge should be worked on.

How was the initial setup?

The installation is very cool. It is so nice.

It took 20, perhaps 40, minutes.

The technical team needed for the deployment and maintenance can vary. It depends on the company's environment, or the project or contract involved. I am not referring to the 20 permanent users I mentioned but to the customers, the clients. The number may be 18, it may be 15. It varies.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It used to be that the customer had to pay for licensing fees. Sometimes he dealt directly deal with our company and at other times with that of Trend Micro, which would have dealings with us.

Whether the license is monthly or annual depends on the deal of the company. When a company is international it may have a global contract that would be relevant. Otherwise, the deal may vary according to the country or partner involved.

What other advice do I have?

Trend Micro Apex One is a good product, with the inclusion of more features.

Some projects will involve the implementation of the solution and others will be upgraded versions from OfficeScan to Trend Micro Apex One or Apex Central. Our control manager has switched to Apex Central. Sometimes a small company will be involved and at other times the implementations.

The solution is both cloud-based and on-premises.

We have around 20 customers using the solution.

I rate trend Micro Apex One as an eight out of ten.

Mature, easy to use, and the behavior monitoring is helpful
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature is the behavior monitoring."
  • "When I was setting this up for one of my clients, I was not able to deploy the DLP."

What is our primary use case?

We are a solution provider and Apex One is one of the products that we provide to our customers. It is used as part of a security and antivirus solution.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is the behavior monitoring.

The interface is user-friendly. Even people without IT experience can easily make use of machine learning or predictive analytics.

What needs improvement?

When I was setting this up for one of my clients, I was not able to deploy the DLP. It was not working and I think that this area is in need of improvement.

For how long have I used the solution?

Our team has been working with Apex One for almost two and a half years, although I have been working with it myself for between six and seven months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Our customers are very satisfied with the stability and the product overall.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I have 20 to 30 clients who use this product.

How are customer service and technical support?

The technical support is very good, although it takes some time to get connected to them. Once they are available then the support is fine.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We have been using Apex One since it was the OfficeScan product. We are currently in the process of upgrading and we are having some issues with the process. We would like a better solution but they are not providing one for us.

How was the initial setup?

The deployment takes between two and two and a half hours.

What about the implementation team?

We handle the deployment for our customers.

What other advice do I have?

This is a mature product that is nice to use.

I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

Excellent and efficient end point security for enterprise companies
Pros and Cons
  • "I think this is the best solution in the category of endpoint protection, it's really excellent. It's better than McAfee."
  • "Could channel video more efficiently."

What is our primary use case?

I've installed this product for clients numerous times. Each situation is different but usually it's for companies with a minimum of 50 users. One client had 200 users of Apex One, another 500 and I also had a larger client with 1,500 users. It's an enterprise license. I'm a pre-sales and implementation engineer and our company is the Apex One local partner in India.

What is most valuable?

I think this is the best solution in the category of endpoint protection, it's really excellent. It's better than McAfee.

What needs improvement?

I think there could be improvement in a couple of areas, particularly with technical support and making the solution more user friendly. They could channel their video more efficiently and develop a root functionality solution control across all functions.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been working with this solution for two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It's a stable solution, no problems.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

This solution is very scalable, it's great.

How are customer service and technical support?

In general the technical support is very good, although lately I've been less satisfied with the local support here in India.

How was the initial setup?

Initial setup is straightforward, it takes a day. Deployment requires between two and five people depending on the size of the company.

What other advice do I have?

I think Apex One is a very good product for end-users. Some of the features you get here are also available in Symantec which is a better package, but Apex One is a better end solution. Symantec and McAfee both have good solutions but Apex One and Symantec are the best for end point security. For singular implementation, Apex One management is great for application control and deactivation.

I would rate this solution a 10 out of 10.

Effective behavior monitoring, beneficial data loss prevention, and scalable
Pros and Cons
  • "We don't use application control but instead, we use behavior monitoring, which is a good feature. The real-time scanning, data loss prevention, and endpoint sensor we use are beneficial"
  • "The integration is lacking in Trend Micro Apex One. It does not integrate well with Microsoft p solutions. For example, with Office 365, we have to buy another solution for mail protection. That's why we are assessing Microsoft Defender 365 because we have an email from Microsoft, an endpoint from Microsoft, and we use Windows systems."

What is our primary use case?

We are using Trend Micro Apex One for endpoint protection. We have this centralized server with the console and the agents on the client's system.

What is most valuable?

We don't use application control but instead, we use behavior monitoring, which is a good feature. The real-time scanning, data loss prevention, and endpoint sensor we use are beneficial

What needs improvement?

The integration is lacking in Trend Micro Apex One. It does not integrate well with Microsoft p solutions. For example, with Office 365, we have to buy another solution for mail protection. That's why we are assessing Microsoft Defender 365 because we have an email from Microsoft, an endpoint from Microsoft, and we use Windows systems.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Trend Micro Apex One for approximately two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We had some stability issues where we needed to patch the solution. However, it has come stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Trend Micro Apex One is scalable.

We have approximately 300 clients using the solution.

How are customer service and support?

I have not used the support from Trend Micro Apex One.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup of Trend Micro Apex One is simple and easy to manage. The platform is easy to understand.

The implementation took less than one month.

The steps we took for the implementation of the solution were the installation of the server, the deployments from the clients, the agents in clients, and the configuration of the too,l such as rules.

What about the implementation team?

We did the implementation of the solution in-house.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We have the smallest package of Trend Micro Apex One. The full package is expensive, and it was more expensive than we thought.

What other advice do I have?

The maintenance of the solution is not difficult.

We are looking into using Microsoft solutions instead of Trend Micro Apex One.

I would recommend this solution to others.

I rate Trend Micro Apex One an eight out of ten.

Responsive technical support, reasonably price, but lacking performance
Pros and Cons
  • "I have opened three tickets with the technical support and they were responsive and asked me to send them my logs."
  • "In the future, the solution should include the XDR feature."

What needs improvement?

When Trend Micro Apex One detects malware it should take action immediately. For example, detection and deletion.

The end-user at times experiences slow performance on their work station, this should improve.

In the future, the solution should include the XDR feature.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Trend Micro Apex One for approximately one month.

How are customer service and support?

I have opened three tickets with the technical support and they were responsive and asked me to send them my logs.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I was previously using Trend Micro Worry-Free Business and I switched because Trend Micro Apex One has more features.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The price of the solution is reasonable.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Trend Micro Apex One a seven out of ten.

Lightweight, automatically scans websites and email attachments, and easy to use
Pros and Cons
  • "I can run a full scan and it won't cost too much in terms of resources, which is good."
  • "I would like to see behavior analysis capabilities included."

What is our primary use case?

This product is set up on our company laptops and I used it to scan files to ensure there is no virus or malware on my PC.

What is most valuable?

Sometimes when I browse to a website, there will be malicious content and it will be pointed out by Trend Micro.

This product automatically scans my email attachments to make sure that there is no malware or any malicious code.

Another advantage is that the level of resources it consumes is not very significant. I can run a full scan and it won't cost too much in terms of resources, which is good.

What needs improvement?

I would like to see behavior analysis capabilities included. This type of module can effectively detect an attack, like ransomware. This is not something that I have at the moment.

The dashboard could be a little bit easier.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Trend Micro Apex One since I joined the company, six or seven years ago. The company was using it prior to that.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

This product is quite stable and reliable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

There are between 200 and 300 users in the company.

How are customer service and technical support?

Our IT department handles technical support, so if I need help then I don't contact the vendor directly.

What about the implementation team?

Our IT department is responsible for deployment and maintenance. They follow ISO compliance and keep the product up to date.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Licensing fees are paid on a yearly basis.

What other advice do I have?

This product is easy to use, doesn't consume too much in terms of resources, and has automatic scanning. Because of these features, I recommend it to other users.

I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.
