We primarily use the solution as an antivirus. It protects our organization.

A straightforward setup and good multi-layer protection with easy management capabilities
Pros and Cons
- "The initial setup is pretty straightforward."
- "We have found that this product is a bit heavy on the endpoints."
What is our primary use case?
What is most valuable?
As a specialist and price management console, it's easy to manage.
There is excellent multi-layer protection offered by the product. There are multiple layers of behavior monitoring, process monitoring, et cetera. The multi-layer aspect is actually one of the main reasons we chose this particular solution.
The initial setup is pretty straightforward.
We've found the stability to be very good.
What needs improvement?
We have found that this product is a bit heavy on the endpoints. This seems to be largely the fault of multiple processing on the identity side. If they could improve this identity protection on the endpoint so that it could take up fewer resources on the machines, it would be a marked improvement.
We have had one problem. When we go to use corporate licenses, we'd like to have the ability to distribute them all over the globe. However, they work under a SAS model, and not all entities can use the SAS model. They are bound by one license key with one setup. If they had three to five SAS models linked to one key, it would be much better.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using the solution for the past five years now. It's been a while.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The stability is very good. Basically, it's the latest version of OfficeScan. There aren't too many differences and the stability in both cases was good. It doesn't crash or freeze. There are no bugs or glitches. It's quite reliable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
In terms of scalability, we've discovered that it is easy to scale. You basically just need to add the licenses and the console. If a company needs to expand the solution, it won't have any issues.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was not complex at all. It was easy and very straightforward. We recently migrated from OfficeScan to Apex One, and it was a very simple process overall.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The pricing, as compared to other options, is a bit higher. However, they're offering with single license multiple applications. With this product, you get things like application control, vulnerability control, et cetera. They have added more benefits. You may pay more, however, you also get more. Altogether, it's a rather reasonable offer.
What other advice do I have?
We are just a customer. We don't have a business relationship with the organization.
In general, I would rate the solution at a seven out of ten. It's okay. We've mostly been happy with it.
This product basically a traditional antivirus system. Similar to McAfee and Symantec, Trend Micro, is based on traditional antiviruses. They have made improvements on some things, however, at the enterprise level, we know that these days we need a second layer of protection, specifically for malware. That is why we are using two solutions - Trend Micro plus Cisco AMP. AMP is specific to malware protection. Trend Micro handles the traditional antivirus side. It's very difficult to trust just one solution these days. We need to make sure we cover all the protection layers.
Trend Micro claims that basically, Apex One is an enterprise level solution. We have been using last five years, and, so far, we haven't experienced any problems. Therefore, it's safe to say that we can recommend a product like this to other mid-level or small enterprises.

Technology and Information Systems Manager at a construction company with 501-1,000 employees
No down time for updates because of the cloud; work stations can be updated externally
Pros and Cons
- "No down time in terms of the backend having to be updated because it's on cloud."
- "Some of the updates still require a complete reboot of the system."
What is our primary use case?
We have been a Trend client for some time and we looked at this product as the next evolution. We had servers on-prem to manage our Trend install and we went with the Apex One real-time monitoring solution. Being cloud-based meant we didn't have to worry about upgrading the backend servers. We could also be sure that the regular disk came down to the components and that they will update properly on each one of our devices. We are customers of Trend and I'm the manager of our company.
What is most valuable?
The nice thing about this product is that there is no down time in terms of the backend having to be updated because of the cloud, so it's basically real time and the work stations can be updated externally as well. It doesn't require people being connected to the net, like our nomadic users. The client goes out and pulls the necessary updates directly from the cloud.
What needs improvement?
From the client perspective, there are situations where some of the updates still require a complete reboot of the system and the problem there is from an end user perspective. We have to make sure, particularly with people who work remotely, that they actually are rebooting their machines and not just putting them to sleep. If the updates didn't require rebooting that would make a big difference.
I'd like to see a single back pane between the end points as well as on the service side of things. I know they're working on that at the present time and it will be great when it's done.
For how long have I used the solution?
We've been using this solution for some time.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The stability is good and there's a better capture rate in terms of reporting as well, because now you get to see all your machines in and out of your network.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It's a very scalable solultion, more so now that it's not dependent on my back end.
How are customer service and technical support?
We use the support and find them quite good. I have someone who deals with the tickets that arise out of Apex One. We have set up a system where anytime there's an issue, virus or whatever, the back end will let us know what was done on a particular machine and it can be validated once the process is complete. We get notifications into our ticketing system if any work has been done. The support for implementation is also good, and they're very responsive. If you have an issue with any kind of malware, they help with that too.
What other advice do I have?
I would rate this solution an eight out of 10.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Public Cloud

Good for patch management and protecting against vulnerabilities with the capability to expand
Pros and Cons
- "It is available on our OS platform and will automatically scan our machines daily or weekly."
- "Sometimes HTTPS sites are not blocked properly."
What is our primary use case?
I have multiple enterprise customers in India, and I am working with multiple regions, like Asia, Indonesia, and Singapore. Many customers are using this endpoint solution. It is widely used by customers.
Apex One has multiple features and use cases including internet protection, web reputation, URL filtering, firewalls, and anti-malware functioning. There's virtual patching and it can help us to prevent exploitation attacks. They can help you to patch vulnerabilities on the machines.
How has it helped my organization?
The solution has helped our organization by protecting our endpoints from malware and web threats. It also helps us to block ports and provides features like IPS. IPS has multiple signatures and rules which can help us to patch vulnerabilities.
It is available on our OS platform and will automatically scan our machines daily or weekly. It also provides an EDR option. With EDR, we have DLP and application control as well, so we have lots of features that we can use to protect our endpoints from ransomware and phishing attacks.
What is most valuable?
The solution is good for patch management and protecting against vulnerabilities. It's great for protecting endpoints.
It is easy to set up the solution.
Technical support is helpful.
It's quite stable and reliable.
We can scale the product.
What needs improvement?
There are some limitations, including around URL filtering. Sometimes HTTPS sites are not blocked properly. The proper display of the page is not properly working. We're putting in a feature request and hopefully, it will be resolved next quarter.
Feature-wise, pretty much all features we need are present.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using the solution for more than two years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is stable and reliable. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze.
I'd rate the stability eight out of ten.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The solution is scalable. We can expand our licensing or hardware if we need to grow.
I'd rate the scalability ten out of ten.
How are customer service and support?
We can raise a ticket with support and usually get a response within eight hours. There's a bit of a time difference. They are good. We find them helpful and responsive.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is very, very straightforward. It is available under two offerings. One is on-premise, where we have to install the server and database. The other is the cloud. In the cloud, we have to just create our account, and we can just start using it.
The cloud option is very easy, and there is no need to maintain the server and no need to install anything. It will just create an account, and we can start using it within ten minutes. At the same time, the on-premise will take two or three of us to deploy it. We have to create three servers and then database services, and we have to install the application over that. It will take some time. Both are straightforward. They have created a guide for installation. If we follow the guide properly, we can get it installed properly.
There isn't a lot of maintenance needed for the cloud solution. If we choose an on-prem deployment, we will have to maintain the server and database. We also have patching from time to time, which we also have to test. On the cloud, the backend team handles any necessary maintenance.
What other advice do I have?
We're partners.
I'm working with the latest version of the solution.
I'd recommend cloud deployment as it is so fast to set up and easier to maintain.
I'd rate the solution eight out of ten.

Modern, user-friendly tool with impressive machine learning
Pros and Cons
- "The ADR capability of Trend Micro has helped us in investigating the root cause for any threat that is hunting by providing us with good visibility of the timeline and activity of the threat."
- "I would like to see a sandboxing feature in the next release - which is currently something being supported by a third party - in addition to EDR capability on the cloud applications."
What is our primary use case?
We use Trend Micro Apex One to block threats that do not contain files. This is done by utilizing machine learning techniques to understand if there is any abnormal behaviors or execution of any processes being done on the machines.
How has it helped my organization?
We have been able to develop policies created to monitor abnormal behaviors in addition to application control level policies that only allow specific applications to execute - the rest are blocked.
What is most valuable?
The EDR capability of Trend Micro has helped us in investigating the root cause for any threat that is hunting by providing us with good visibility of the timeline and activity of the threat.
Additionally, Trend Micro can be rolled out with some script which no longer requires us to rely on third party tools.
What needs improvement?
I would like to see a sandboxing feature in the next release - which is currently something being supported by a third party - in addition to EDR capability on the cloud applications.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using this solution for more than a year now.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
So far from a performance standpoint, we haven't faced any issues. We feel it's a stable product and it is not that resource-intensive either.

It is scalable and you do not need to purchase additional hardware to do so.
How are customer service and support?
The support is really good in the Middle East, they are even available on the weekends to address issues.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We used McAfee in the past, we switched due to the modern techniques that are offered by Trend Micro. Trend Micro also offers excellent features and a great machine learning technique.

What about the implementation team?
We used a combination of a vendor and an in-house team.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
There is an annual license.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

User-friendly, easy to implement, with excellent support and good performance
Pros and Cons
- "When comparing to other products the console is much more user-friendly, and it's easy to implement."
- "We have received many complaints about how slow the system is on the first day of implementation."
What is our primary use case?
We are system integrators and we work with many different products.
We have four to five customers that we have implemented Apex One for and everyone is quite satisfied.
Our customers are using this solution for endpoint protection.
What is most valuable?
Trend Micro is very good.
The performance is good and the control is user-friendly.
When comparing to other products, the console is much more user-friendly, and it's easy to implement.
What needs improvement?
We have received many complaints about how slow the system is on the first day of implementation.
When implementing and you don't have a third-party tool, it can be difficult. Most people are working from home and using their own network to connect to the local office, so implementing these authorities can be challenging.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Trend Micro Apex One for more than two years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
There are no issues with stability.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It's a scalable solution.
Our customers are large companies with more than 5,000 users.
How are customer service and technical support?
Customer support is excellent. They respond very quickly.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We have faced some issues with McAfee.
The features in Sophos are very good and the detection capability is excellent.
How was the initial setup?
It's very easy to implement.
Depending on the customer's environment and the features they are using, it can take two to three people to maintain and manage.
If they are using the device's central application to control everything at once for more than 2,000 users then a single person can't handle all of the modules. This would then require more people for maintenance.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The price is very good compared to other products.
What other advice do I have?
I would definitely recommend Trend Micro, especially if they have a low budget.
If they have a larger budget then I could suggest Sophos, which is also a very good product.
It is all dependant on the customer's budget.
I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

The web console is quite helpful, as is the visibility view for deployment. Updates do things like Device Control Management, which I can control.
What needs improvement?
The policies tend to be a bit more complex to set up, so we do need some expertise in setting up the policies. This requires some preparation and knowledge.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been using Trend Micro Apex One about a year. I think it is the latest version.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
We don't have any issue with stability.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The scalability is good. You can do it for almost 100 endpoints.
How was the initial setup?
The policies tend to be a bit more complex to set up, so we do need some expertise in setting up the policies. This requires some preparation and knowledge.
What other advice do I have?
I would recommend Apex One, probably the upgraded version. Maybe the XDR will meet today's needs, i.e. the XDR upgraded version. I would give Trend Micro Apex One 7 out of 10.
