Straightforward to set up, knowledgeable support, and the web reputation and user behavior monitoring features help to mitigate careless user actions
Pros and Cons
  • "We really like the ability to have different policies to keep servers and endpoints unique to their own policy."
  • "I'd like to see the different interface components combined into one, or be allowed to get to the agent management portion without having to log into the main console."

What is our primary use case?

We use Apex One for Antivirus only.

Our company currently has more than 8,500 machines with the Apex One agent installed, including servers and workstations. We are a 100% Microsoft Windows environment.

Being a financial institution, data integrity is paramount to keeping our customers' information safe, as well as the well-being of the bank. We use the Apex One web console to review logs and triage any infections that may be occurring or that have occurred.

We really like the ability to have different policies to keep servers and endpoints unique to their own policy.

How has it helped my organization?

Apex One has streamlined our AV. We use the SaaS instance in the cloud.

We use real-time scans, manual and scheduled scans for viruses, malware, grayware, ransomware, etc. We also use other modules like Behavior monitoring and predictive machine learning, malicious web tracking, and blocking.

We were previously using the Trend Micro OfficeScan antivirus product, so it was only natural that we upgraded to the Apex One product when we decided to upgrade. The SaaS instance in the cloud was right for us.

What is most valuable?

We really have found the web reputation monitoring and the behavior monitoring portions to be highly valuable. These modules really cut down on careless user impact.

Behavior monitoring keeps ransomware from taking hold.

Real-time scans also monitor files as they are accessed, downloaded, sent, etc.

We have our environment set up to alert our security department not only when endpoints are infected, but for anything that is considered a low risk that may need further investigation.

A daily check of the logs helps us keep an eye on those things.

What needs improvement?

The console is divided into two parts. One for the policy and configuration, another for agent management. I'd like to see the different interface components combined into one, or be allowed to get to the agent management portion without having to log into the main console.

Another item that I would like to see change is the fact that, on occasion, the console will be updated and items that I once knew the location of have moved to a different location. I would like to see a model where we are alerted to the changes as they happen.

Advanced all-in-one endpoint security
Pros and Cons
  • "The initial setup was very straightforward."
  • "They should include easy-to-use connectors to make it easier to connect to SIEM."

What is our primary use case?

We use Trend Micro to build our entire, CI/CD pipeline. In short, I check out the code from my VCS (Version Control System), then I run a static code analysis as the first job in the pipeline.

From that point onward, I can do multiple scans in multiple environments. For example, I can have the code checkout from my Dev environment, run the static code analysis, then I can do a folder scan. I perform the scan in my Dev environment, in the integration environment, and in the UAP environment. These are the multiple scans that you can run and enter on your application.

All the static code analysis is on the application-side, and the rest of the workflows can be triggered in several places throughout the pipeline and on the infrastructure side as well. I can use it to do VAPT (vulnerability assessment and penetration testing) throughout the entire pipeline.

Broadly speaking, it means adopting the DevOps culture of Trend Micro. DevOps culture is well adopted in Trend Micro. It's very comparable to Prisma Cloud. Palo Alto has recently informed me about their Prisma Cloud offering regarding CI/CD deployment.

We develop and deploy the CI/CD pipeline in the free workflow, using various tools like GitLab.

Palo Alto is a big competitor of Trend Micro.

Within our organization, there are roughly 1,000 plus users, using Trend Micro.

We definitely plan on using Trend Micro in the future. They are one of our preferred vendors, along with Forescout.

Forescout handles the initial stages of threat discovery and it integrates with SIEM.

If we are going to continue with Trend Micro as our endpoint security solution, then we need to have a SIEM solution, like IBM QRadar, ArcSight, Forescout, Micro Focus ArcSight.

What needs improvement?

Trend Micro does region-based scanning — the threats are shown in different regions.

I did some workshops based on tracking zero-day vulnerabilities, etc.

Trend Micro's coverage and scans can be broadened to encompass different types of classified threats based on different parameters.

For example, say I want to filter out all of the threats in The United States. In this case, I will see the US region and I will see the number of threats that are present on my infrastructure. This is referred to as threat intelligence.

When I was in this workshop, the filters always recommend that we start with the region as a first parameter. Once you get into the region (the US region), you might look at the different data centers within the US, then within the different data centers, you can drill down on the folder — on the number of hosts.

The host can then be extracted from the region and the region can be marked red. Red means there are a lot of vulnerabilities in a particular region. If Multiple hosts have multiple vulnerabilities, then the entire region will be marked red. Trend Micro somewhat shows this on their dashboard. In other words, the parameters should be improved, including zero-day filtering.

They should include easy-to-use connectors to make it easier to connect to SIEM. The integration environment has to be available so it can easily connect to SIEM.

Also, you should be able to perform more scans.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Trend Micro for two years.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Trend Micro is both scalable and stable.

How are customer service and technical support?

We are satisfied with the technical support. They are available 24/7.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was very straightforward. I did the installation by myself.

Regarding deployment topologies, whether it's on-premises, a hybrid cloud, or a public or private cloud, installation is quite easy. It will be up and running within a couple of hours.

Once we deployed it, we had to connect the console to the dashboard. Once the dashboard was up and running, we could filter out threats by connecting to the Trend Micro Data Security Operations Center, which has a threat intelligence ability that highlights all of the threats. The data comes from the CMDB database and It shows us the CVS4 of each threat.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

If you buy Trend Micro, you will also need to purchase a SIEM solution which is often quite expensive.

What other advice do I have?

I would definitely recommend Trend Micro to other potential users.

On a scale from one to ten, I would give Trend Micro a rating of eight.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Hybrid Cloud

Good as a general anti-virus but needs more depth and sophistication
Pros and Cons
  • "The general anti-virus on offer is the solution's most valuable aspect."
  • "We're actually looking to upgrade to more sophisticated ADL products. We need a more sophisticated endpoint. We need to have the ability to automate those instant response processes."

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use the solution for our endpoints. We do occasionally use it for some servers as well.

What is most valuable?

The general anti-virus on offer is the solution's most valuable aspect.

What needs improvement?

We're actually looking to upgrade to more sophisticated ADL products. We need a more sophisticated endpoint. We need to have the ability to automate those instant response processes.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for about a decade. It's been about ten years at least.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is very stable. It doesn't crash or freeze. There aren't bugs or glitches. We find it to be very reliable at all times.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have between one and 2,000 users on the solution at any given time.

We haven't needed to scale up in the past few years, so I can't speak to its ability to do so.

How are customer service and technical support?

We have a separate team in-house that handles tickets, therefore, I've never been directly in touch with technical support myself. I can't speak to the level of service they provide.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Since I have been working at the organization, the company has always used Trend Micro. I don't know if they used anything else prior to that. That said, we use a number of other services as security in depth. We have other gateways and firewalls and a bunch of other items that we use.

How was the initial setup?

I wasn't part of the team that implemented the solution. I wouldn't be able to say if it was complex or straightforward.

It's pretty low-maintenance. We do continuous updates and we also update the backend security appliance that goes with it, which probably happens three or four times a year.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The costs of the service fluctuate for us; I can't really say how much it costs our organization in general. I do know that it's not expensive. cost-wise, it's on the lower end of the spectrum. The licensing we have is all-inclusive; there aren't any extra costs involved. If we decide to stay with Trend Micro and upgrade to a better service, we'll be paying a higher price.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We're currently looking for another solution that may be a bit more sophisticated than Trend Micro, so we are currently evaluating other options. We're down to two or three other vendors. Those we've looked at include an upgraded Trend product, Microsoft Defender ATP, XDR, Crowdstrike and MacAfee.

Some of the other products give the capability of virtual sandboxing, endpoint threat detection, automated response, that kind of service.

What other advice do I have?

We're just a customer. We don't have a business relationship with Trend Micro. We're using the latest version of the solution.

OfficeScan offers basic anti-virus security, but if you're looking for more advanced security features, you really need to look at more sophisticated and modern services.

I'd rate the solution five out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Good endpoint protection and helpful support but i not user-friendly
Pros and Cons
  • "The nano protection and device control are great."
  • "The product can be a bit heavy."

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use the solution for our endpoint protection. It is integrated for endpoint protection. It's a good product. Some of our clients also use the solution.

What is most valuable?

Trend Micro Apex One is good for endpoint protection. They're a Gartner leader for it, so that's why customers like it.

Their patch management is unique compared to other endpoint protection solutions. It is a good feature.

The nano protection and device control are great. We were monitoring predictive machine learning. All features are available in the Apex One feature.

It's scalable.

It is stable.

Technical support is helpful.

What needs improvement?

It is not user-friendly. If they improve this side and make it more user-friendly, then it'll be helpful for IT admins in terms of operating the solution. It's just a bit complex to learn and use at this point, compared to other endpoints.

Sometimes the solution cannot support legacy PCs.

The product can be a bit heavy.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been dealing with the solution for one year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The platform is good. The product offer is good and the customer experience is good. The only limitation is it's not easy to operate. That said, it is reliable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is scalable. That's not a problem.

How are customer service and support?

Technical support isn't too bad. I've been satisfied with the level of support I can get. They are pretty responsive. Their level of knowledge is good.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I've also used Symantec, which is easier to set up. It's also lighter. However, Symantec's support is not good at all.

How was the initial setup?

The solution has a moderate level of difficulty. It's not too easy and also not overly complex. For example, compared to Symantec, Trend Micro is more complex.

I'd rate the setup process a two out of five in terms of the ease of setup. You need to have prior knowledge.

What other advice do I have?

We use the solution in-house. We also resell it and are integrators.

We're using the latest version of the solution.

I'd rate the solution seven out of ten.

Provides good protection, is simple to use, has a user-friendly interface, and is reasonably priced
Pros and Cons
  • "One of the better features, in my opinion, is that it also makes use of a web reputation. For example, if someone accidentally clicks on a link in an email that leads to a malicious website, they will block it."
  • "The only thing that I would like to see changed or improved in the next release is when it reports C&C callbacks, to make it easier to trace, to see what's doing that, whether it's a program checking for updates or a malicious program."

What is our primary use case?

Trend Micro Apex One was an upgrade for a desktop virus scanner, web reputation, and a firewall.

What is most valuable?

It is very easy to use.

One of the better features, in my opinion, is that it also makes use of a web reputation. For example, if someone accidentally clicks on a link in an email that leads to a malicious website, they will block it.

The interface is good.

It's an excellent product for a desktop.

What needs improvement?

The only improvement I can see is that it occasionally warns us about callbacks, and there's almost no way to trace it back other than a Windows service, making it difficult to completely eliminate it, or know what program is creating the callback.

The only thing that I would like to see changed or improved in the next release is when it reports C&C callbacks, to make it easier to trace, to see what's doing that, whether it's a program checking for updates or a malicious program. At this time, all it says is that it's a C&C callback and then traces back to a Windows Service.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using Trend Micro Apex One for approximately 20 years.

We upgraded to Apex One, between four and six months ago.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Trend Micro Apex One is a stable solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Trend Micro Apex One is very scalable.

It's on everyone's desktop on their computers.

We don't have any plans to increase our usage.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Previously, we used the OfficeScan version.

We are currently using Carbon Black as well.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward.

We gradually upgraded everyone from the previous version to the new version. If I add up all of the time we spent getting everything done, it probably took us a couple of weeks.

There are two of us that manage this solution as well as Carbon Black.

What about the implementation team?

We completed the installation in-house.

What was our ROI?

We have never calculated the ROI. It may be difficult to calculate, but all it has to do is keep you safe once or twice and it has paid for itself.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing is good.

Licensing fees are paid on a yearly basis.

If I remember correctly, the cost is approximately four and a half thousand per year.

There are no additional fees.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate Trend Micro Apex One a nine out of ten.

It offers high visibility on the agent side
Pros and Cons
  • "Apex One is flexible and offers a lot of visibility on the agent."
  • "Apex One has some room for improvement on the agent side. I want to get more from the logs and those kinds of things. I want to see whether the agent has the proper updates or any issues with the machine itself."

What is our primary use case?

I use Apex One for endpoint security.

What is most valuable?

Apex One is flexible and offers a lot of visibility on the agent.

What needs improvement?

Apex One has some room for improvement on the agent side. I want to get more from the logs and those kinds of things. I want to see whether the agent has the proper updates or any issues with the machine itself. Also, if Trend Micro could add some more tools that I can use in my daily troubleshooting in the future, I think that would be good.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using Apex One for maybe five or six years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I haven't had any issues with Apex One so far. It hasn't given me any problems.

How are customer service and support?

Support is Trend Micro's only downside. Their response time is slow.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I think SAP's endpoint solution has more features available in its interface compared to Apex One.

How was the initial setup?

Installing and configuring Apex One is simple. It took maybe an hour.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It varies. It can be cheaper, and the other one is more expensive or the other way around. It depends on the reseller and the salespeople unless I'm buying directly from the company.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Apex One eight out of 10. I would recommend it for home-based users. My only real issue with Apex One is the response time from support.

Responsive technical support, reasonably price, but lacking performance
Pros and Cons
  • "I have opened three tickets with the technical support and they were responsive and asked me to send them my logs."
  • "In the future, the solution should include the XDR feature."

What needs improvement?

When Trend Micro Apex One detects malware it should take action immediately. For example, detection and deletion.

The end-user at times experiences slow performance on their work station, this should improve.

In the future, the solution should include the XDR feature.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Trend Micro Apex One for approximately one month.

How are customer service and support?

I have opened three tickets with the technical support and they were responsive and asked me to send them my logs.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I was previously using Trend Micro Worry-Free Business and I switched because Trend Micro Apex One has more features.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The price of the solution is reasonable.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Trend Micro Apex One a seven out of ten.

Responsive technical support, plenty of features, and high performance
Pros and Cons
  • "Some of the valuable features of Trend Micro Apex One are DLP, encryption, and patch management."
  • "All the features in Trend Micro Apex One are not compatible or functional for all the different operating systems. For example, they have fewer features in other operating systems compared to what they have for Microsoft Windows. It would be nice if they could have one solution which all functions work on all kinds of operating systems. It would be much easier for those who have different operating systems in their environment to have one solution."

I have been using Trend Micro Apex One for approximately three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable with high performance.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Trend Micro Apex One is scalable.

We have approximately eight customers using this solution.

There are is a total of between 100 and 200 users using the solution.

How are customer service and technical support?

Trend Micro has an edge over other solutions in technical support because they have local support.

How was the initial setup?

The installation is very easy and quick, it takes approximately five to six hours to complete.

What about the implementation team?

We have one technician that deals with the implementation and maintenance of the solution. However, if you are going to implement the solution in an enterprise-level company then you will need a team of two to three.
