A VPN gateway is a specific type of virtual network gateway that is used to send encrypted traffic between an Azure virtual network and an on-premises location over the public Internet. You can also use a VPN gateway to send encrypted traffic between Azure virtual networks over the Microsoft network. Each virtual network can have only one VPN gateway. However, you can create multiple connections to the same VPN gateway. When you create multiple connections to the same VPN gateway, all VPN tunnels share the available gateway bandwidth.

Security is the first feature in Microsoft Azure VPN Gateway because we don't have to go through the public internet to access things. It's very easy once the setup is done. Another benefit is getting everything within the single Azure suite. You don't have to provision other third-party services to make this happen. Within the Azure portal itself, you get all the features. You have the warehouse within Azure, you use the virtual network within Azure, you provision the virtual network gateway within Azure, and the Azure VPN client is also from Azure. You use Microsoft Store to install and configure it, making the services seamless without relying on any third-party services. If you want to move into higher layers of security with Microsoft Azure VPN Gateway, you can use IPsec or IKEv2. We haven't used these features, but they will be helpful if you want to move into higher security tiers. For internal work with Microsoft Azure VPN Gateway, we don't put much pressure on the systems. If you are using it for client work and have systems that require high availability with significant network load, the load balancing and other features that come with it will be helpful.
