OpenText Diagnostics pricing varies based on customization and business size, starting from $1,500 per year for basic packages. Advanced features and larger enterprise needs may elevate costs, potentially reaching upwards of $5,000. Users express satisfaction with the value, emphasizing robust analytics capabilities and comprehensive support options, including updates and integration assistance, making it a preferred choice for many enterprises seeking reliable diagnostic solutions.
OpenText Diagnostics automatically detects components, allows for flexible configuration, and provides detailed diagnostic information of application timeouts. It is particularly useful in identifying root causes like database or network issues. However, there are challenges with its interface, high pricing, lack of trainers, and insufficient cloud-based environment support. It is widely used in finance and government sectors for examining application code.
What are the most important features? In finance and government sectors, OpenText Diagnostics is used to efficiently view application data and code inspection. Organizations transitioning to cloud platforms like AWS for improved data management often use it alongside tools like Micro Focus BPM to enhance functionality across environments including SAP, Java, and MQ.
OpenText Diagnostics was previously known as Micro Focus Diagnostics, MF Diagnostics.

|---|---|---|
| Performance and Fault-tolerance Architect with 1,001-5,000 employees | 5.0 | I found HP Diagnostics excellent for deep, transaction-level monitoring, quickly identifying root causes in AWS SAP/Java. While providing great tracing and visibility, licensing is expensive and HP support for diagnostics is poor. |
| Presales Manager at a tech services company with 51-200 employees | 4.0 | I use Micro Focus Diagnostics for deep application review, highly valuing its detailed root cause analysis for timeouts. While it's stable and scalable, I find the GUI and metric details need improvement to enhance its overall effectiveness. |
| DXC Technology at a tech services company with 51-200 employees | 3.5 | I found Micro Focus useful and stable on-premises for banking/telecom, but the interface needs improvement. My main concern is its future cloud integration and monitoring, though premium support is good. I rate it 7/10. |
| Consultant at basistek | 3.0 | I use this solution for clients to view data. While setup is easy, and diagnostics are valuable, its old, unfriendly UI and lack of .NET Core support are significant drawbacks, leading to my 6/10 rating. |
able to identify exact root cause
HP Diagnostics is a very good monitoring tool especially for transaction level monitoring -- it shows hot spots which can be drilled down to DB level, table, query, SP's, record and field level and also at Object level, Classes level, method or Augment levels instead of pinpointing bottlenecks at layer level it goes deep inside for information. It has very good tracing capabilities despite being an agent based tool compared to other agent less monitoring tools. Overall a very good tool for monitoring application diagnostics for quick and easy resolution with help of thread information.
Drills down from slow, end-user transactions to the
bottle necked component, method, or SQL statement,
helping to solve memory, exception, and other
common problems
Key features and benefits
• Automatically detects all components touched by a business process and traces them with no user intervention
• Provides complete application visibility across the application lifecycle, enabling higher application quality when applications go live
• Reduces mean time to resolution (MTTR) in your J2EE, .NET, ERP, or CRM (SAP, Oracle®, PeopleSoft) environment
• Integrates fully with HP Business Availability Center software, HP LoadRunner, and HP Performance
Center.
Price is little expensive for number of license points and HP Diagnostics trainers are not available in market and no proper support from HP for any diagnotics level queries or issues.

Advantages:
• Find and solve more problems earlier in the life cycle
• Achieve higher quality by finding the most common application problems before applications go live
• Collect concrete data to support decisions to go live with an application
• Manage and monitor applications after they have gone live with role-based visibility to solve problems quickly
Micro Focus Diagnostics is used for reviewing the code for applications and many other details of the application. You can deep dive into the applications.
The most valuable feature of Micro Focus Diagnostics is the information reported from an application that has timed out. For example, when you're Googling, or you're booking a ticket for Burj Khalifa here, the longest tower in the world, there are situations where the system can time out. There are times when you might not receive a response on the payment gateway or you are not able to find the reservation. The customer only receives the information that the session has timed out.
By using Micro Focus Diagnostics it will tell you the root cause of why it timed out. It may be the database, a network problem, or an application problem. The information from the diagnostics is detailed. Developers will love it.
The GUI and metrics of Micro Focus Diagnostics can be improved. The metrics the solution gathers can be limited and could be enhanced by giving more details.
I have used Micro Focus Diagnostics within the past 12 months.
The solution is very stable, our customers are happy.
A large infrastructure would not have more than a thousand JVMs and Micro Focus Diagnostics can handle it easily with one instance. There's no problem with the scalability of this solution.
The installation is straightforward. However, there is a dependency on the application layer that requires a restart of the application. It's a service, not the server, but a restart of the service is required. It is the same case with any other application.
My advice to others wanting to implement Micro Focus Diagnostics is if they don't understand application architecture or custom-developed applications, there's no point to have diagnostics. They need to make sure the solution is something they need.
I rate Micro Focus Diagnostics an eight out of ten.
I have used Micro Focus BPM, and I have used it mostly in the financial sector and the government sector.
Micro Focus is not on cloud right now, but we are planning on moving to the cloud.
For banking and telecom solutions, it's been quite useful. Since the technology is moving to the cloud, I'm not sure how Micro Focus can keep up and how we can monitor it if it is tied into the infrastructure of the cloud.
The interface could be more user friendly. It could also be improved for support for cloud-based environmental intersection.
I have been dealing with Micro Focus Diagnostics for 10 years.
The product is stable.
The scalability depends on the sizing and the number of transactions.
Technical support is okay, but it depends on what kind of technical support license you have: normal or premium. If you have a premium license, you have good support, and they make sure that resolution is provided within 48 hours is also good.
Setup in Micro Focus depends on which application and which tool you are using. It also depends on the skills of the person who is handling it and if they are capable. I have not had much difficulty with setup.
I would rate Micro Focus diagnostics 7 out of 10.
We primarily use the solution so that our clients can see data from us.
The diagnostics and configuration are the solution's most valuable aspects.
We can change the agent's configuration and instrumentation, and we can increase or decrease the agent's performance. These are helpful capabilities to have.
The interface is very old, and not very user-friendly. Most of our clients don't like the UI.
I've been using the solution for two years.
We haven't had any issues with stability.
Technical support is good. If we have problems, we just connect through a support portal. They typically answer our questions within an hour.
The initial setup is very easy. It's not complex at all.
There are two servers in diagnostics. One of them is the Commander. Commander is our UI. And agents connect data and send it to the Commander. Between Commander and the agent, there is a Mediator server. One of our projects is developed by .net and the other platform is Java. .net agents collect data and Java agents collect data, and Mediator. Mediators send all of the data to Commander. If we have to install a new server, with just agents, it takes about two hours.
While Diagnostics is supported by the cloud, I didn't do anything with the cloud environment.
We're a Micro Focus partner.
I'd rate the solution six out of ten. I'd rate it higher, but the product cannot support a .net core environment. Most firms use .net for core projects and we cannot help their project with this product. It's important that Micro Focus software engineers work hard on the .net core environment for a new release.
