Reliable image backups have protected our HMIs and simplified on‑premises recovery
We have not tried the vulnerability assessment feature yet because we have a different set of protocols for our cybersecurity. We conduct audits and plug the gaps as part of our security approach. We are not using AI with the anti-malware from Acronis; we are using it only for backup and recovery. On the backup and restoration side with Acronis Backup, some on-premises AI features which can detect anomalies may be something which would improve the product significantly. Otherwise, we are not very comfortable with cloud-based solutions at this time. We are looking for products which are entirely on-premises, so they remain within our control.

Provides effective backup for physical servers and needs improvements for cloud compatibility
We use OpenText Data Protector for Oracle database backup and some applications that run for database security OpenText Data Protector is good for physical backup, specifically for physical servers. It is effective for direct backups to EMC library or storage without using a repository. However,…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It works with different types of partitions or different OSs."
"The interface is easy to use. They keep on adding new features. Acronis recently added multi-platform support."
"The solution is exceptional for desktop backup."
"The solution has helped us because it supports a lot of platforms and we don't have to install anything at our end in terms of a server and the like; everything is on the cloud and that's a good start for us."
"I like Acronis Cyber Protect's backup process and its management console is intuitive."
"We have never had a backup fail because of the software."
"The most valuable feature is the fact that you can archive backups quite easily and minimize the amount of space you're using."
"Stability is always good. I have used Acronis for 10 years now, if not more. I have never had a problem with availability, etc."
"The installation is pretty straightforward and simple; it's not too complex or overly difficult, deployment is fast so you can have it up and running in a day, and you don't need a big technical team to handle deployment and maintenance."
"The simplicity of the software since when it was deployed makes the training easy for the backup operators (there is a big rotation of employees in this area)."
"Data Protector is a very mature product that allows custom backups, scheduling, and copying in a manner that reduces the amount of time spent with backups from an administrative point of view."
"For us, disaster recovery is the most valuable feature."
"It is very easy to use and the interaction with various systems is very handy."
"The most valuable feature is the ability to recover individual files."
"The integration of the tool benefits our organization, and the support is unified from one company for all data, storage, and backup processes."
"Deduplication implementation with CAPA is very good."

Cons

"The support takes too much time to respond to callbacks. Calls are often scheduled around four to five PM and tend to occur with a two-hour delay each time."
"This is not a feature-rich solution."
"The solution's error handling can be improved specifically for Linux errors."
"There are some frustrating things. One in particular is when you're looking through your logs from the previous night's jobs and you see a warning, and you go in, and you try to dig through to find what exactly the warning meant, and you can't find anything."
"If you are the owner of the information, and even when you need it faster, you have to pay for the information, come on. It's ridiculous what they are asking for."
"The cost of Acronis Cyber Protect is good, but as a general judgment here in Egypt, the economic situation is not good. If they can provide a waiver or discount for low-income countries, it would help to spread adoption."
"I would like to have more cybersecurity integration to properly round up the product and its offering."
"One of my clients is using version 11.7, which I feel has quite a few bugs and is not easy to work with."
"In terms of what can be improved, I would say integrations with MongoDB. We use MongoDB and we need to go to scripts to do backups."
"We have so many specific technological cracks in Micro Focus, but we are not getting the features, facilities, or coordination between the global delivery centers and the R&D team that we need to express our ideas."
"The scalability could be a bit better, actually, because that connects to the stability question."
"If you compare the solution with the same specific features and enhancements on another solution, Data Protector is expensive. This is especially true when compared to, for example, Veeam."
"We're not satisfied with the robustness and stability of the software since Micro Focus took it in-house. The GUI is one thing they could improve. It's still a bit archaic. Data Protector needs a more functional, user-friendly GUI."
"Be ready for an exercise in frustration, but once all the problems are resolved, then you’re OK."
"It can occasionally be inaccurate in its backup/recovery time estimates."
"Virtualization."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price of Acronis Backup could be reduced, it is expensive."
"We were on a perpetual license for Acronis Backup."
"The license is a perpetual license. The cost is an area for improvement."
"Licensing fees are billed annually and there are no extra charges."
"Our licensing fees are on a yearly basis."
"Pricing is what it is. I don't shop around once I find a good solution. I insist they maintain ongoing support year after year for updates and tech support."
"I think that the prices of the product go up every year. If one is extremely expensive and ten is absolutely cheap, I rate the product price as six."
"I would describe the product as a mid-priced tool for small and medium businesses."
"The solution requires paying for a license."
"The product is cheaper than Commvault."
"Data Protector's pricing is very competitive and we have no issues in this regard. I would give it an eight out of ten in terms of pricing."
"Pricing for Micro Focus Data Protector is reasonable."
"Our licensing is on a capacity basis."
"Avoid using many LTO drives; when using fewer drives, the price will be extremely good."
"The licensing cost was not annual. We didn't pay any license. We paid when we deployed and we didn't pay for anything after that. There were no additional fees after the initial payment."
"The pricing is acceptable for enterprise level companies, but it's not acceptable for small- and medium-sized businesses. Micro Focus Data Protector is not an enterprise level solution, and it should cover small- and medium-sized businesses with acceptable prices."
