Reliable image backups have protected our HMIs and simplified on‑premises recovery
We have not tried the vulnerability assessment feature yet because we have a different set of protocols for our cybersecurity. We conduct audits and plug the gaps as part of our security approach. We are not using AI with the anti-malware from Acronis; we are using it only for backup and recovery. On the backup and restoration side with Acronis Backup, some on-premises AI features which can detect anomalies may be something which would improve the product significantly. Otherwise, we are not very comfortable with cloud-based solutions at this time. We are looking for products which are entirely on-premises, so they remain within our control.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"One of the features I have found most valuable is the restore point - it gives us what we need at the time we need it. The important thing is that the backup for Acronis doesn't depend as much on the device."
"The solution has all the features I need and user friendly."
"For my first experience, it is the best software for backups, especially for a five-system backup."
"Consistency and reliability. The interface is easy to understand and consistent across applications. While not 100%, it is a very reliable backup solution."
"We tried Acronis and it was easy to use and it worked."
"It has taken a lot of the manual work out of replicating backups."
"It has improved the efficiency of work."
"We have a backup of not only the machine, i.e., the hard drive and data, but we also have the ability to recover to a new piece of equipment fairly quickly."
"The organizations I work with that use the product are actually managing to get a higher availability figure."
"Micro Focus Data Protector is a stable solution and, when compared to other storage or backup tools on the market, it is extremely competitive because it is user-friendly, has multi-vendor support, and also supports cloud platforms as well as local storage."
"Regarding scalability, it's unlimited with Data Protector. You can link multiple installations and let them work together. They can share backup devices. You have many possibilities with Data Protector. It's very proficient."
"The initial setup is very easy."
"Since we implemented the new PostgreSQL database, Data Protector's stability has greatly improved."
"When we chose the solution, reliability was absolutely the most important criteria, and we’re absolutely satisfied."
"If you are an enterprise, and you need a strong backup solution, Micro Focus is for you."
"With Data Protector, if we lose data, we can recover it."

Cons

"We are trying to restore from the backups that the supplier help us to create, but we are having problems restoring."
"More flexibility with Acronis Linux Console ability to run modules such as the Acronis Windows console; some LINUS modules are locked."
"If we could have a mass deployment option using Acronis, that would be helpful."
"It would be better if they made it easier to obtain images for laptops and desktops."
"Those functions have been removed from the product and it's very frustrating."
"Acronis Backup support could improve."
"I also think the fact that it is extremely customizable means that it's really easy to get something wrong, and it not work as intended."
"The problems that we face are often related to the customer's network, although sometimes there are problems with the software, such as an error in the configuration."
"We're not satisfied with the robustness and stability of the software since Micro Focus took it in-house. The GUI is one thing they could improve. It's still a bit archaic. Data Protector needs a more functional, user-friendly GUI."
"We have become frequent customers of the Data Protector technical support team because Data Protector does fairly regularly break."
"They should design the solution so that it is much easier for deployment and make the UI easy to use."
"It has a lot of undeveloped functions like window searching and patent searching, and within the main backup processes like VMware and Microsoft Exchange. It's completely not user-friendly, and it has no built-in antivirus software. In my opinion, Micro Focus Data Protector is not an enterprise level solution."
"Recently, clients have raised concerns about the lack of comprehensive documentation for Data Protector."
"The technical support is poor and should be improved."
"The user interface as the GUI is out-of-date and should be updated in the next release."
"Integration with the market applications must be improved, such as MS Exchange, MS Active Directory, SAP and Oracle. Other backup tools are more efficient with the integrated backups."
