Cost savings and efficient decompression but needs better cloud integration
Our primary use case for Arcserve UDP is its decompression feature, which helped us save money by reducing storage needs. Despite moving to cloud applications, we have been using Arcserve UDP for backup and disaster recovery Arcserve UDP has helped our organization save considerable amounts of…

Enhanced data retention and recovery with robust backup features
The Oracle Agent and Oracle RAC support are valuable features; they are crucial for taking backups and cloning applications. NetBackup Appliance has many features. Backup Exec is a great product as well. NetBackup is well-developed with strong features, including deduplication technology, which allows us to retain backups for longer periods—exceeding our expectations by keeping backups for almost a month. It's effective for data recovery and capable of handling large-scale data recoveries. It is very stable and keeps applications secure. However, the AI integration is not yet tested.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The data protection functionality is the most valuable feature of this solution."
"The most valuable feature of StorageCraft ShadowProtect is the speed and the compression of the backups. The compressed backed-up files do not take up as much storage. Additionally, the incremental backups can be done in one minute and be backed up on a disc very fast."
"I like the tool's speed."
"Global deduplication is the best feature of this solution."
"It is very stable."
"The most valuable features are the replication to the cloud and the deduplication."
"The most valuable feature of Arcserve UDP is its decompression capability."
"The product provides instant and virtual standbys."
"We can add multiple appliances to the product."
"Veritas NetBackup Appliance is a total backup solution. We don't have to buy other applications to do it."
"The encryption feature is very good, the product itself and the new features are excellent, and it is pretty user-friendly compared to other software and very easy to deploy."
"I can confidently say that I have managed more than 30 or 50 appliances over different time periods, and yet I never had a single hardware failure."
"The most valuable features of Veritas NetBackup Appliance are the ease of use and the familiar interface."
"The solution is very scalable."
"If you use the NetBackup Appliance you do not need to have separate media servers and hardware. You can configure the same storage as a media server and master server as well as a storage port. This helps to reduce the hardware costs of the media server."
"It is very capable of scaling and very good for heterogeneous environments."

Cons

"The product is not user-friendly."
"I think that the price could still be a bit cheaper and I do not like that they have been purchased by Arcserve."
"The solution could improve by being more user-friendly. It can be difficult to assign destinations and choose which files and folders we need to back up. There are some aspects that are unclear."
"Backups are very slow and time consuming."
"It should be easier to switch between backup locations. We have multiple data storage locations and sometimes one of those storages need to be replaced. It would be nice if they made it easier to reconfigure the backup configuration."
"We have to use a Microsoft hypervisor for installation which is expensive."
"The solution can use a lot of bandwidth when the scheduling is not done, it should auto-schedule itself. For example, if there are 50 users connected in the network at 12 o'clock and the backup is not scheduled. At this time the network offices are going to have performance issues when it is doing a backup. Having a feature to auto-schedule a time when the network is not being used often would be beneficial."
"We are looking at scaling up to the cloud and using immutable copies on the cloud. Arcserve UDP 8.0 does have the immutable feature supporting AWS, but I'm looking for multi-cloud support. So, I'm waiting for Arcserve to release that in the next release."
"We had some problems with the backup of the physical server."
"The price is slightly expensive for small and medium enterprises. If they can review the prices, we feel it would be beneficial, especially for the African market."
"The challenge arose due to a space issue. The issue was related to disk breaks, especially when power cuts occurred. One of the disks would break, leading to a loss of functionality."
"NetBackup Appliance's pricing is reasonable, but it could be lower."
"Veeam has a verification action, which is good."
"More licensing options could be introduced to the software. It is currently based on capacity only. Compared to competitors, it is difficult to position it economically everywhere. From the usability point of view, they are making many improvements on new interfaces, the SaaS offering, etc."
"The scalability could be improved."
"With technical support, it feels like they aren't well trained and it takes forever to get answers out of them."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solution is not very expensive, but it is not cheap."
"I rate the product price a five on a scale of one to ten, where one is low price and ten is high price."
"It is approximately $400 to purchase a virtual service outright."
"It is a bit pricey, considering the reliability problems. If the tool worked flawlessly, the price would be fair, even cheap."
"The price is based on the number of sockets. We use a four-socket price that includes two servers and the cost is $4,375."
"As an MSP partner, I believe that the prices are fair."
"The solution is very expensive."
"In comparison to other vendors, it is a low-cost solution."
