Manage projects effectively with seamless task tracking and integration, but deployment requires familiarity
We are conducting all our project management using Atlassian tools. We use Atlassian Confluence for task management, reporting, visualization of tasks, and reviewing the progress of tickets and work I use Atlassian Confluence for task management and other project management tasks, such as…

The speed of opening files and folders is too slow and can be very frustrating
It's relatively easy to create folders or workspaces. It's just cumbersome because the files and folders take a while to open. So that's the only issue I have. The rest of the solution is relatively user friendly. The deployment is relatively fast. From creating a brand new workspace to actually using it can be done within a day, depending on how complex it is. I know within our organization they are basically forcing us now to move away from our servers to Vibe. That started in July and there has been a significant change over to Vibe. So it's still new but for a big organization like ours, it's actually impressive how quickly people moved over to Vibe. We did the installation and deployment ourselves and, as an end user, it's been relatively user friendly. It doesn't take long to get familiar with the program, and if you know how it works, it becomes relatively easy to set up a workspace and save documents and edit it.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It's the best application to document all types of information."
"What I like the most is the Wiki software that comes with Atlassian Confluence."
"The product has a valuable feature for quick verification of documents."
"Confluent is a very good product, but only if you are using it to the fullest."
"It has tremendously improved our organisational culture, as it is a more streamlined way of handling customer issues, responses, queries, and documentation."
"Confluence can link any ticket or task from JIRA to be included on the Confluence page."
"We switched because it was the better product for a lesser price."
"I'd say in the knowledge management space, as far as we've been doing our business, and our job is to find tools for organizations, I'm convinced that this is the top product in this space."
"The features that I found most useful were being able to see who made changes to a document, where the document was in the chain of command, and being able to leave comments to make the process more collaborative."
"What I like most about this solution, is the fact that I can access it anywhere and customize it to my needs."
"Our end users find great value in building team workspaces to collaborate not only with internal employees, but with third-party consultants and customers as required."
"There were no stability issues; it just works."
"HTML and JSP elements are the most valuable features."
"It's relatively easy to create folders or workspaces."
"We were able to centralize all customer data: files, discussions and technical notes."

Cons

"Deployment can be painful when you have to deal with different Java versions or keystores."
"The search ability (using Lucene) is less than optimal and has known bugs that are slow in getting addressed."
"There is room for improvement in maybe the tree structure for articles. If you have a lot of articles, it becomes difficult to navigate."
"The comparing history versions feature could be improved; it's messy and not useful."
"The roadmap feature should be made easier to work with and modify. It's not really scalable."
"When comparing page changes, you are only able to select 2 pages. While this is useful, it has proven to be a slight limitation when many people are editing a document."
"There are some issues with performance when creating tables."
"When we import the data in Confluence from Word or any other document, the formatting is not correct."
"The following issues need some attention: better integration with MS Office suite, more flexibility in customizing the colors and themes, custom forms and workflows are powerful, but the interface needs revamping to be easier to work with."
"The end user experience could be improved; some functions are a little too complicated for the average user."
"The user interface can be changed to 'look' more like a Microsoft one since this will help market the product more."
"While we were working on implementing this product, the entire system crashed and we had to reinstall it from a previous version."
"The speed of opening files is too slow and should be increased."
"One thing that really needs to improve, is opening files or folders. It takes much longer than when you are getting it to Windows Explorer on the desktop."
"You have to press the BACK button at least three times till it will go back to the previous page. This is something that must be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The Confluence pricing is good. The only challenge we have experienced is with Jira and the add ons we use that need to be paid for separately."
"I am using the paid version. My company has purchased it for company employees. We are using Confluence as a company. I don't know how much it costs, but its price is good enough. Its price is not so high."
"Maybe we're only using 10% of it, but we have to pay for everything."
"The price of the on-premises data center version is too expensive."
"When you purchase this solution you get some support."
"There are some cases where you can go on Confluence as a public site without a license, but you will not have all of the features. You can also have a Confluence site that does not require a license just to read the articles. When you have Jira Service Management attached to Confluence, then you can go through the portal of Jira Service Management and read the Confluence articles without the license. This is good because when you are in an ITSM environment, you have many customers, and you do not want them to have to pay just to read articles. Regarding the use of the full features of Confluence, there is a license cost, and it depends on how many users you want."
"We pay $350 a month to use the solution."
"Pricing wise, it ends up being an expensive solution. In the beginning it's cheap, but by the time you have all the functions you need, it turns out to be expensive."
