BeyondTrust Password Safe and JumpCloud are leaders in the security management and cloud directory service industries, respectively. BeyondTrust seems to have the upper hand in feature depth, making it more suitable for enterprises needing extensive asset management, while JumpCloud's affordability and ease-of-use make it appealing for smaller businesses.
Features: BeyondTrust Password Safe offers features such as Smart Rules for automated onboarding, session recording, and password rotation, providing comprehensive asset and session management. JumpCloud focuses on directory services, single sign-on, and user management while supporting a wide range of devices and applications, offering an easy and flexible integration with cloud platforms.
Room for Improvement: BeyondTrust could improve its documentation and error messaging, as users find the administration, particularly in database deployment and capacity management, complex. JumpCloud could enhance its mobile device management (MDM), improve MAC compatibility, and offer better group synchronization with Microsoft 365 along with more customization and integration options.
Ease of Deployment and Customer Service: BeyondTrust is usually deployed on-premises but can adapt to hybrid environments, with mixed reviews on technical support response times. JumpCloud, being primarily cloud-based, boasts easy setup and management, with generally positive feedback on its customer support, although documentation and onboarding could be better.
Pricing and ROI: BeyondTrust uses an asset-based licensing model, presenting good value for organizations with many assets despite some perceiving it as costly. JumpCloud's user-based pricing is often considered more affordable, offering various tiers suitable for different business sizes and needs, contributing to significant cost savings.
With iboss, whenever you turn on your laptop, the iboss agent automatically connects to the iboss cloud, enforcing all security policies. So with respect to the security side, it strengthens measures.
I have seen some cost effectiveness from iboss; it has reduced certain support requirements, making it a more hands-off solution.
Next year, we may add another BeyondTrust element because the overall experience has been good.
After implementing JumpCloud, I found I do not require Windows installations, which is very helpful and cost-effective, while also maintaining effective security levels.
Metrics show a reduction in identity and access management costs, potentially between 40 and 60 percent.
The time saved on onboarding and device management is significant, probably a 75% reduction.
They are very fast, responsive, and knowledgeable.
The quality of the support is fantastic.
We had promising discussions about resolving these issues, but no real action followed.
The tickets for minor issues have been resolved efficiently.
One person gets aligned for troubleshooting and maintenance activities during their downtime, and within an hour, they complete these tasks.
The support and maintenance from BeyondTrust are commendable.
Customer support should be enhanced, especially the response time which should be much faster than it is now.
I have not needed to contact JumpCloud's technical support since the setup and usage are quite straightforward and well-documented.
The customer support provided by JumpCloud is fantastic, as they respond properly and provide solutions when required.
They are also able to meet on-demand requirements based on your contract with them, and can easily provide adequate resources and scalability.
I would rate it a nine out of ten for scalability.
If I start seeing sluggishness or anything like that, I just reach out to my rep, and they connect with their dev team, typically resolving it the same day.
If using the built-in database, it requires good knowledge in Microsoft SQL, which could complicate scalability.
BeyondTrust Password Safe is scalable and stable from my perspective, as if you increase your CPU and RAM, you can use as many user licenses as you want on a single platform.
In my experience, the scalability of BeyondTrust Password Safe is also a nine.
With AWS SSO, it is ten out of ten.
JumpCloud's scalability is quite robust, designed to easily accommodate growing organizations and fluctuating user counts.
We have grown quite a bit since we implemented it, and it has scaled with us without any major issues.
It's been pretty solid; I've never had an outage with them, and if I ever had, it's only been once out of the seven years.
We've experienced zero downtime.
Our biggest problem with their service was it did not recognize the device despite our ClearPass sending information to the iboss box.
In BeyondTrust Password Safe, the upgrade activity can take longer, and I have occasionally experienced being stuck during appliance version upgrades.
The solution is very stable.
JumpCloud is considered to be quite stable, offering reliable performance and consistent uptime for identity and access management.
I rate the stability of JumpCloud ten out of ten.
It did not initially recognize my microphone.
It is not as intuitive as the rest of the platform.
We also had a problem with a transition when we upgraded from one appliance of theirs to another, but their engineer lost a good deal of our data.
Our iboss subscription access should be more secure with an OTP or VPN etc.
This feature would allow PAM to check the credentials of privileged accounts, indicating if they are correct or not, showing if the heartbeat has failed if they are wrong.
This would help in identifying suspicious activities immediately when users log in.
There are limitations when accessing or creating connectors for each application.
I believe the mobile device management, the MDM side of JumpCloud, could be enhanced further for more complex scenarios, and a more intuitive user interface for certain administrative tasks would be beneficial.
This would be helpful, especially for AWS users, by providing broader support for different cloud platforms and private cloud environments.
A tutorial on how to use some new features, such as RADIUS, or use cases that show the best practice on how to solve some cases would be beneficial.
It offers the same features you would get from a vendor that charges 250,000 British pounds for a fraction of the price.
The following year, the cost of just licensing was similar to what was paid the previous year for a new appliance along with the implementation and licensing costs.
Regarding pricing, setup costs, and licensing, iboss is not cheap, and that's my only concern.
The pricing model is more affordable with the option of going for either unlimited devices or users.
Pricing is managed by a different team, however, I know it's less expensive than CyberArk Privilege Access.
My experience with the pricing, setup cost, and licensing of BeyondTrust Password Safe is good because we have an asset-based license, not a user-based one, allowing us to add many clients with privilege access.
AWS charges per user, which can be costly if I have more than ten users.
JumpCloud licensing is based on how many users they register in JumpCloud, and each user can have multiple devices, up to three devices.
My experience with the pricing, setup cost, and licensing of JumpCloud has been positive, as I am happy with the support provided, and this setup cost is effective.
The solution's mental health function can detect if someone needs help.
It's given us a lot more visibility into our computer assets that may be infected with viruses and also shows us people who have unusually large uploads or might be engaging in high-risk activities, such as searches or going to sites not categorized by their web crawler.
iboss was the best solution for us because, no matter what domain you were in, everything is under a single pane of glass, which is exactly what we wanted.
BeyondTrust JIT (Just-in-Time) Access helps minimize risks in the organization by allowing privileged accounts to be provisioned temporarily, granting users elevated access only for the required duration.
The flexibility of the licensing model is significantly better as it offers both unlimited users and unlimited devices, unlike Delinea, which is based on the number of users.
The features I find valuable in Password Safe include password retention and management, session privilege monitoring, live monitoring and recording, and the use of PS automation scripts for creating connections.
The most impactful feature of JumpCloud is that it allows me to use one credential for all platforms or accounts, reducing the need to remember multiple credentials.
The feature that I use most is that the user has only one portal to access the applications, such as SSO applications like Google Workspace and the web applications that support SAML or OpenID.
JumpCloud has given us a much more secure environment, and as we move toward a SOC 2 Type 2, having JumpCloud in place made it very easy to gather the evidence we needed to prove that we were doing what we should be doing.
