Has required frequent manual adjustments due to screen resolution but supports simple automation with minimal effort
I would prefer more UFT because it has VB scripting capabilities. While Eggplant Test also has this feature, it's not very user-friendly. I prefer the features of UFT compared to Eggplant Test. When needing to do quick automation, I would prefer Eggplant Test, but otherwise, I would always choose UFT. It depends on the complexity of the tasks. For big problems and complex automation tasks, I would prefer UFT because it has more flexibility and is more effective. With Eggplant Test, if you have very low complexity automation, such as simple click sequences and validation, then it would be preferable; with more complexity, I would not recommend Eggplant Test.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I must acknowledge that the customer support has been A++ when I have run into problems."
"The screen shot portal is essential for an easy way to run tests across hundreds of browsers and retrieve screenshots which then indicate success or failure."
"We would not be able to provide our services without their tools."
"CrossBrowserTesting allows us to test our site with real-world devices in real-world scenarios and find what we're missing."
"I have found CrossBrowserTesting to be scalable."
"Aside from speeding up our processes, it also allowed us to tie in our automated test scenarios and integrate our reporting tools to make the entire process efficient and hassle free."
"Record and Replay is the most used functionality for us, as we can record the test cases and play them on multiple combinations of platforms."
"When I started to work on testing automation, I was very excited about how easy it is to run tests on different browsers. It was just a matter of configuration."
"Everything is happening on the layout or display that is used by the user. Eggplant prompts processes, like 'click here,' or 'look for this image.' Eggplant makes it possible for QA people and BAs, working in the actual display, to check if the software is providing the right images, the right text, and the right results. They don't have to go inside the code or to the TCP/IP layer. Everything is happening at the highest level."
"The most valuable features would be the image recognition and the OCR."
"Eggplant allowed us to replace that human work with an automated solution that reduced the time that it took a person to perform the test from upwards of three hours down to a few minutes, while increasing the accuracy to the levels where we are entirely accurate with our timing and tests."
"Good text reading ability."
"GUI testing is the strength of the tool, we have been satisfied with the tool, and not only the tool, but the service behind it, as the tool works as expected and the response from eggPlant, as a company, has been quick and substantial."
"Its scalability is good. It is useful for desktop applications, and it also uses OCR and does image recognition."
"The biggest advantage has been the ability to improve the quality significantly."
"It is easy to set up."

Cons

"The speed connection in mobile devices could be improved, because sometimes the load time is uncertain."
"The screenshot tool defaults to a screen layout instead of a full page test. I find it a bit cumbersome that I can't have it run a full screenshot as my default."
"Elements of 'real' mobile/tablet testing could be sped up, as I still sometimes experience lag, which no one loves."
"Being able to test on real devices via the virtual connection is wonderful, but it can cause some lag and load time issues while testing."
"I had some problems with the local connection, but there is someone that can help us always on customer support chat."
"Sometimes, some of their instances fail, particularly in older versions of browsers."
"Automated testing could be improved."
"A wider range of physical devices with more browser versions in the Selenium Grid would be great to insure users with out-of-date devices are able to interact with our sites."
"The IDE could be even more full-featured."
"It has low productivity."
"If somebody asks me, "Is it possible, from the first moment, that somebody who has never used Eggplant can create actions?" I must answer, "No, it is not possible.""
"I would like to see standardized actions already built into Eggplant. For example, "wait eight seconds". That way, I wouldn't need to create it as an action. Right now, I have to program that wait and describe it as an action so that everybody knows it is an action that waits eight seconds... That way, somebody who is not familiar with programming processes like "if-else", or "for", or "while", would be able, from the first moment, and without programming, to put some easy-to-use, standardized, actions in place."
"The IDE could be even more full-featured. Because I was a developer, I was very spoiled by either Visual Studio Code or Visual Studio for shortcuts. For example, I was able to say "ctor" and hit Tab and it would create a template of a constructor for me... It would be great, when I want to create a new function, if there were shortcut commands like those that helped create all of the functions, or if there were shortcut features to do any of the complex plans."
"They need to update the Linux. I think it's kind of an outdated Java Swing application, it almost gives you the impression that the application was written in Java Swing."
"Since there are very few customers in the Indian region, there is no training available, and it's challenging to find skilled talent."
"The biggest issue I had was the crashing. You could be in the middle of setting up and writing up a nice little script and then it would crash."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"CrossBrowserTesting offered the best value for its price."
"It is worth the pricing as the product is supported on multiple platforms and browsers."
"The lowest price point is very reasonable. It is also useful if only one person in the company needs to check on the browser display."
"A few intermediary pricing options for small QA teams would be nice, e.g., unlimited screenshots, "as you need it" parallel tests, etc."
"SmartBear offers bundles of products that work together."
"End-to-end testing isn't possible for us because of the licensing problems. It's very expensive, so we only have two development/execution licenses."
"It is scalable, but it is a matter of money in the pocket. You can scale it, but then you have to have additional licenses. The licensing approach of eggPlant is not the best."
"Make a smart decision about the number of developer- and execution-only licenses you purchase to maximize your budget. We found that going heavier on execution-only licenses has been a way to reduce our costs and maximize our ability to benefit from the software."
"Eggplant Test is a very expensive solution."
"It probably has a yearly license."
"This solution is expensive when compared to the market. However, the reason it is more expensive is because of its stability, high performance, and for its support of any technology."
